Part 1: The smell of easy money
Part 2: The smell of easy money
- The more I read about FELDA-A, FGV and KPF, the more I am convinced that the actions of the government would serious repercussion on the KPF. I would say any members of KPF who support government plan is simply “bodoh”. After all the years of suffering and toiling the land in the middle of the jungle, I do hope they think and seek independent consultant views before deciding the next course of action. In this case it is paramount that the members take action that forces the KPF trustee board to seek the consensus of all it 200,000 members before proceeding. Isa Samad as it is has infiltrated KPF. The appointment of Isa Samad as Chairman of the board is highly irregular. The legal fraternity is questioning the legality of the Cooperatives Minister power in appointing Isa.
- The way forward as I see is that members of KPF send a strong political language to Najib. He would appreciate the value of their votes. The PM should take Isa out of KPF and allow KPF to buy the 49% FELDA-A ownership of Felda Holding. It would make more sense that the cooperative manages its own business independently and the Authority function as an authority and not as a business entity. Felda–A must remain as a body that strictly function within the organizational objectives. KPF is already matured and it should be allowed to take the next course of actions without any government intervention. FELDA-A after disposing their 49% stake in FH, can do whatever they like with their money in other business venture. After both FH and FGV as it is do not compete and operate in separate business domain.
- To KPF members, my advice is “Jangan sia siakan usaha anda selama ini. Percaya kepada pengurusan dan bukan kepada ahli politik.” Control your board members using your power.

I just want to reply to Observer – who wrote this blatant lie below :
“It is a load of bull that the Settlers don’t have their land. They have their 10 acres land and their 10,000 sq feet of land. Despite that, every year they get various bonuses. Come general elections they get further bonuses. Their children is given the right to study in all the best schools and fully funded by Felda. Even tuition teachers are provided practically free.”
It’s bullshit that you don’t know anything about felda.., yet you write like you live in felda.., and know all the details.
Well let me tell you this – straight from the sons of felda settler !
1. Not all felda settlers got their 10 acres of land title – govt have stopped it, and been promising this to settlers as their sweet promises during election or by-election. This same promise also been repeated again recently in the Kerdau PRK… , with promise – you make us win , we will settle your land title issue very swiftly. BullSh#t.. until today.. it is till remain status quo.. nothing changes!
2. What bonuses? – it’s all ‘wayang’ by BN govt – announcing bonus this and that to peneroka – but not really telling the truth – the bonuses are actually come from Felda Holding that make extra profit from the height of CPO price in recent years! it’s not from govt kitty fund.. or somewhere else.. ! so.. shut up if you don’t really know what’s the real bonuses that govt giving. it is rightfully to be given to settlers anyway.. govt just taking the limelight out of it.
3. Their children is given right to study at best schools?>> well BullS#t!! i wish to swear more bad word to you!! F#$$#ck you.. you don’t know nothing.. > only those who excel in their examination gets to study to boarding school or school outside felda..! only select few! don’t simply use all! I’m on of the select few who excel at my studies and get selected to study in boarding science school. This selection process is the same to all rural student.. no special schemes or whatsoever for felda settlers children that gives them special route to all those boarding school or science school (sekolah sains)
4. Fully funded by felda? – another big lie from you mr. know it all! – felda do own 2 asrama felda .. and sponsor students from felda scheme who excel in exam to these 2 asrama.. >> but that was it! only 2 asrama – for all felda settlers in malaysia! 1 asrama can provided only max 1-200 students only.
For other student like me – who got into various boarding school – we still have to pay all other fees and no free books or whatsoever. So don’t talk Sh!t about free or fully funded! there’s no such thing!
5. Tuition fee free?? – well this is new incentive by current govt… but it also applies to all rural student.. not only felda..! so.. don’t just give 1 sweeping statement like only felda student gets this privilege. Even schools in urban area also got this tuition voucher.
Sometimes – I wonder – are you sure you have written some thesis on felda? if there is one.. i’m sure the thesis will be full of outright lie and baseless fact.. based on your wild imagination only. poor you.. no wonder
you didn’t dare to publish your thesis or send it to this bloggers here.!
To summarize all allegation by observer – no.., we felda settlers and the childrens are not spoonfed by this govt felda scheme. The real fact is – we are the one who work like a slave and earned a meagre income not really enough to feed all the hungry mouth in the house.. , we’re the one who have to find work outside felda to make ends meet. Ask any felda settlers – surely there will be time – where head of the family have to leave the felda to find some work outside to supplement income while the wife and childrens left in the felda – to be the one to work on the plantation – be it sawit or rubber plantation.
so.. shut the f#ck off.. and do write non-sense.. of things you don’t know.
“The real fact is – we are the one who work like a slave and earned a meagre income not really enough to feed all the hungry mouth in the house.. ,”
I am not anak peneroka.. but I can confirm that they live a frugal life. [I have stayed with my auntie who was a teacher in Felda].
Dr,
Most the companies under FELDA Holdings were formally corporation formed by FELDA. FELDA had corporatised all these corporation and injected it in FELDA Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Koperasi FELDA BERHAD was formed and was GIVEN 51% of FELDA Holdings Sdn Bhd by Tun Mahathir. The balance 49% was to be held by FELDA in order to find their opex and development and social expenditure for the settlers.
Your notion that the settlers worked for these corporation is wrong.
A lay men cannot digest this,. …what more Rafick…?
Anyway we can read both above and below…, just need some guidance.?
Dear Observer
Your notion and interpretation of my writing is wrong. I did not say that the settlers worked for the corporations. Please read again
Dr,
I read your “jangan sia-siakan usaha…” advise.
I doubt the settlers really actively participated in KPF. So this term surely doesn’t refer to that. Unless of course you may have been mistaken too as to the settler’s participation.
What is your notion when you said that?
The reality is that KPF is really a form of “share option scheme” benefitting primarily the management of FELDA and FELDA holdings employees.
Observer
(1) Your facts on KPF is wrong. I am in contact with two very senior person in FELDA which actually gave me quite a lot of information. Unfortunately in view of sensitivity surrounding Felda, I am not able to reveal is his/her name. Your thesis is 20 years old. In my humble view it is outdated. To be honest only you know what you wrote in the thesis. No one else does. Maybe you wrote a thesis on Felda Palm Trees Vs Guthries Palm Trees. To claim that you wrote a thesis without any substantiative fact, is a bit difficult for many to swallow. You know that many things have change. Maybe it is time you revisit the thesis and see the changes.
Fyi, KPF is open to all “masyarakat felda”. The masyarakat refers to all settlers, direct employees of felda and felda subsidiary. Each settlers family is allocated a share of RM200k/family. The employees get a lot less and is structured along the lines of position in the company and subject to an overall cap. Many of the original Felda settlers today own shares via their children. Please dont misled the readers here by putting false information and giving the wrong notion. I suggest you revisit your facts.
Dr,
The allocation of RM200k is the max a settler and family can invests.
It doesn’t mean the they have actually invested the full sum.
It may be pertinent that you check KPF annual report to ascertain the actual investment ratio so that we all can have an accurate picture.
Dear Observer
The current members is 220,000.. I was told that huge majority are settlers and most of it invest to the max. I am meeting my contact at the end of the week, i will ask for documents.
If all the members contributed the max RM200k each, KPF should have RM44billion.
This I seriously doubt it. Even if half the sum, I too seriously doubt it.
Anyway, once you have the documents, we all be more well informed.
Bottomline whichever way you look at it, it is the tax payers money that was given to Settlers(98% Malays). Why should this be the case?
Observer
Quite smartly you are making this into a racial issue.. Felda plantation starts out as a part of poverty eradication program. From there downstream business developed. They had secured internal and external funding in sustaining this objective. This funding comes from loan (largely) and grant from UN and Malaysian Government. From your thesis I am sure you know that and it is from there the land ownership and the creation of KPF was made to in the most recent years as Felda settlers were not happy as they wanted the land that they had toiled.
The downstream business spin off was as a result of the produce that came from the settlers. From there mills, transportation, oil factory and others developed.. certainly it is only right the settlers has a share in KPF
Dear Observer
I just got hold on the 2009 annual report. From what I read, I began to question your motive and quality of thesis that you have done.If you want a copy I will email you.
Extracted from the annual report
“Bilangan anggota KPF terus bertambah sebanyak 6.69% kepada 207,913 (2008:194,873) manakala modal syer anggota meningkat sebanyak 12.15% kepada
RM1.46 bilion (2008:RM1.30 bilion). Bilangan anggota Kumpulan Peneroka bertambah sebanyak 6.9% kepada 182,578 (2008:170,800). Kumpulan ini merupakan 87.81% daripada jumlah anggota KPF.”
See summary chart HERE
Whats your main objective in misleading people here! Why are in support such an heinous act?
Raffick,
Perhaps, Observer is part of Najib scheme of breaking up strong opposition against BN into bits & pieces. Along with the myraid of tricks such as Election Commision, Phantom voters, the Law……Everything
Again, ABU is the still the answer. Press the nuclear button!
Dr,
I have read the summary and it only shows the number of members in the cooperative. The question is still what is the value of investment made by the settlers as compared to the Felda employees.
Considering the value of total investment by KPF is only RM2billion, I doubt even the majority of the settlers invests up to their maximum RM200k per family. If we were to divide the total investments by the 220,000 members, the average value per member would only come to RM9,090 per member.
I believe the majority of the investments come from the Felda employees as compared to the settlers. Maybe you can contact your source to determine the value of investments between these two groups of members.
When Felda gave 51% of the companies to KPF through the shares in Felda Holdings, the Federal government gave government assets to Felda settlers and employees. Incidentally 98% are Malays.
Bottomline, why should these Settlers be continued to be supported and spoon fed? Why should these Malays be spooned fed?
It is a load of bull that the Settlers don’t have their land. They have their 10 acres land and their 10,000 sq feet of land. Despite that, every year they get various bonuses. Come general elections they get further bonuses. Their children is given the right to study in all the best schools and fully funded by Felda. Even tuition teachers are provided practically free.
This is an issue between the Government that has been spoon feeding these Malays and these Malays who is perpetually requiring the Government’s crutches.
Whether the restructuring is right or wrong, it doesn’t matter – the Government should stop spoon feeding these Malays and their 2nd and 3rd generations hanger on.
Observer,
I extracted below from the 2009 annual report
I believe the above 2 paragraph will clear your mind on who owns the largest portion of shares in KPF. I summarized
Peneroka -RM1.05 bill (72.08%)
Staff – RM407.58 mill (27.92%)
You refusal to accept that you are wrong in this aspect is not good at all.
The settlers are not spoon fed. They own land. Some manage their own farm and others contract it out to third party. The produce is sold to various business units within Felda Holding. It is a business relationship. In any successful agriculture business, the key lies in distribution. A good model can be seen in among New Zealand Dairy Farmers where the dairy board actually manages the distribution. You must not forget the settlers, cleared jungle and then planted and nuture their land for a long time before they were given the title deed to their land.
I find it ironic that in this case you claim that the Malays are spoon fed and this should stop. If that is your thinking than why not removed all the business privileges that the Malays enjoyed. Why don’t you demand that. Fact is you chose to make the stand here is to raise ethnic issue as well as you want the restructuring to go on despite the fact that it is detrimental to KPF members.
The settlers don’t get bonuses. They get dividend from KPF. That is what the government minister has been giving all this while. I am surprised that for a person that did a thesis on Felda, you seems to make a lot of mistakes in understanding the issues surrounding Felda
Dear Dr,
Please don’t put words into my mouth. Please check my comments and not say that I am in support of the restructuring.
The facts I am saying is as follows:
1. 98% of the members of KPF are Malays.
2. Assets of KPF are derived primarily from assets of the Federal Government of Malaysia.
3. The settlers have not contributed to the growth of KPF or Felda Holdings. They work on their 10 acres of land (in fact today most of them pay Indon/Bangla workers) and they stay on their bungalows on the 10,000 sq feet plots.
My conclusion is that we should stop this and maybe disband Felda once an for all. Afterall, there are no more new Settlers and most of the Settlers have now land titles in their own names.
Observer
Most of your facts on Felda is inaccurate! Allow me to correct it.
(1) FELDA-A started Koperasi Felda (KF). In the initial years, as part of poverty eradication program, KF owns the land, settlers become members of the cooperative. The cooperative than diversify its business where it invested into many related business to support the distribution and sales of settlers produce.
(2) Somewhere in the 90s, the settlers felt that they should own the land and not the cooperative because they had toiled. FELDA-A then decided to give the small holders the land based on what they had worked on. At this stage KF still supports the members for activities like contract harvesting and distribution and processing.
(3)Between 1995-1996, the government decided to restructure KF. They relabeled KF to KPF and change their role into an investment holding entity. All the distribution, milling activities and other related activities were moved into a new entity called Felda Holding. When FH was created, the government decided to take 49% of the shareholding as the government felt they too played a significant role in the creation and progress of felda schemes as well as the progress in KF activities. FELDA-A was also the key owner of Koperasi Felda. The restructuring in essence did the following
(a) KF role is now change and the name is change to KPF
(b) FH is now focus on the downstream activities and buys the produce from Felda farmers. Initially they wanted to list FH but KPF disagree. It did not proceed
(c) FH now have a professional set of management to enlarge its business structure
(3) Reality is FH would not be as what it is today if not because of the farmers effort in toiling the land and sell their harvest to FH. The farmers are contractually bound to sell their produce to FH. Many farmers are not happy as they are not able to sell their produce to other buyers who appears to offer on average 15% more than what Felda Holding is offering.
(4) Today we see Isa Samad being the chairman of the Authority, FH, KPF and FGV. The politician have a strong grip on the organization. Why have this concentration of power? The check and balance will be lost. I will write more about why they want to merge and list!
Btw, how many marks did you get for your thesis?
Felda -A and FGV must come up with the rationale of the M&A and lay their game plans for the listing. I sense the aim is to strip the settlers of the ownership of the land and for FGV to be the owner of the landbanks so that the company can manage it as a conglomerate.
AK
Land ownership is not affected as it has been transferred to the settlers. They can only take it back if they do a buy back and that can only happen if the settlers willing to sell
It is then management control to do whatever the management likes!
Dr,
The land ownership system evolved from personal ownership to cooperative ownership to share system and finally back to personal ownership.
Dr R – You are wrong!
The initial rational was to come up with a system that would prevent the problems of land ownership eg. multiple owners etc and uneven effort being put into the land.
The best system was the share ownership system where lands of 20+ owners representing about 200+ acres are placed in a corporation of which the peneroka owns the shares of the corporation. These settlers would jointly work on the 200+ acres and are paid by the corporation by the effort put in by the relevant settlers (some of the settlers were plainly very lazy). Those settlers not working would be replaced by contract workers paid by the corporation.
Good and hardworking Settlers gets income in two ways – one based on daily wages and the other being the amount of produce.
Due to politics of the opposition promising private land ownership to the settlers to fish for votes, the Federal Government changed the system back to private land ownership.
Dr R – Your statements are wrong
So based on the report, 12% of the owners being employees own 27% of KPF. It would seem the average Settlers’ holding is only RM5,763. So much for you saying that majority of the Settler having RM200,000. You need to tell your sources to check his facts next time.
Dr R – Before pointing fingers to others, look at your self. You claim repeatedly that majority of share ownership in KPF belongs to the staff. That is wrong and I have proven it based on annual report 2009
Hmm after 20+ years being a member, they only own RM5k plus? I wonder if you were to deduct the initial free units and the various bonus issues, how much does the Settler actually put their own money in. The reality is that even these units were being given to them!
Dr R -Again you are wrong. On average, the share ownership is about RM5K but you failed to appreciate the key word here is AVERAGE. I will try to get the distribution by amount and number of members just to satisfy you
The Settlers are only required to sell their produce to FH prior to them repaying all their loans to Felda. Now majority of the Settlers have repaid their loans and have titles issued to them. They are free to sell their produce to anyone.
Dr R – That is not true. In many areas, as FH provide credit facility they have no option but to sell the Felda Hold
You say the Settlers get 15% less if sold to FH. Have you considered the various deductions made eg. fertilizers, loan advances, replanting fund?
Dr R – Don’t you understand the meaning of selling price! When we talk about selling price we refer to cost of goods and the sales proceed is then use to offset the debts on gradual basis.
The private mills would pay full price but these stupid Settlers being so used to be spooned fed, don’t set aside money for fertilizers and replanting fund. As time goes by the yield of the land drops and they can’t replant after 25 years. So much for these Settlers being contributors to FH. They will then turn to the Government for further assistance – bunch of lazy Malays.
Dr R -Again you are wrong! In the early days Felda-A organize the planting, replanting and application of fertilizers. That role was taken by Felda Holding
The reality of Isa being the chairman is illegal – he can’t be chairman unless he is a member of KPF.
Dr R – Go and tell Najib that! He is not bothered
This is an issue of Malays fighting Malays and personally I don’t give a damn. KPF has their members and most of them have children who are professional (most probably funded by our tax payers money) who can advise their parents accordingly. If KPF approves the restructuring so be it – let fools and their money part.
Dr R – Its not an issue of Malay Vs Malay. It is an issue of right and wrong
FYI, my thesis was an “A”. Since we are going to ad hominim issues, may I then ask, can one use the “Dr” if you cease to be a member of the MMA?
What are your views of the need to have Felda since they no longer in the business of resettling the poor?
Dr R- If Felda-A is no longer doing what it is suppose to do and the government has no intention to continue, than disbanded it. In my mind, the government should revert back to its original objective. Felda-H should continue its business based on the direction of its shareholders
On other issues, I will address later.
To be a doctor you need to be registered with MMC. MMA is an association and not all doctors are members. The title Dr is used by those that is qualified with the appropriate degree. It has nothing to do with MMA
Dear Observer,
I have read all your comments. As you know NEP/NDP are directed to achieve 30% economic participation of the 60% Malaysians. And you also know that 70% of our economy is controlled by the 40% of the Malaysian population.
Some of your comments are quite sensitive to me and I think it is best that I should keep it unspoken.
Btw bro… this is not an issue of Malays fighting Malays but Malays fighting the corporate raiders and maneuvers.
Very very very long time ago, I used to visit and stay with my auntie who had to do national service serving as a teacher in Felda. Malaysia was poor then but the Malays were poorer. I can remember how poor were the Peneroka(s) who lived in deep and remote inaccessible jungles and toil the land to contribute to the national economy and make Malaysia one of the largest palm oil producers in the world.
Observer,
You are learned in the affairs of Felda and achieving an “A” for your thesis.
May I ask – what do you think is the rationale for this M&A and floating of FGV ?
Dr,
On the land ownership scheme history, please read the book by Prof Tunku Shamsul Bahrin on Felda. You will realise the error of your statement. I hope you are man enough to admit your error.
Please also check your “informed sources” whether the settlers are bound to sell their produce to Felda Holdings after they have settled their loans and obtained their land titles. Please ask him too whether the Settlers are free to sell their produce to who ever after they got their land. After obtaining their land, if they choose to enter into a new contract with Felda Agricultural Services Sdn Bhd, is the term under the new contract require’s FAS the right to purchase the produce?
Dr, if the settler entered a new contract with FAS, shouldn’t they be bound by what they have agreed?
You are confused. Once the Settlers have repaid their loan, the land is theirs to do as they please. They can decide to manage their land howsoever they please and sell the produce. Felda has no say after that.
AK,
My take is that it is stupid for KPF to even consider listing and injecting FH shares for purposes of listing. Why share the profits they have been enjoying all these years by listing?
Please understand, the management of KPF is not that good in actual fact.
There are so many abuses happening there too. The reason why they make so much money boils down to the dividend they get from FH. If you were to check their other investments eg. Hotel in Mecca, Hotel in Bangi etc – you will be aghast with the decisions they made.
I say again, let fools and their money part.
I think it is best that I read your thesis first
“I say again, let fools and their money part.”
Let see whether this would be a reality on 05/01/12.
A similar plan/proposal about a decade ago bite the dust.
More easy money….

RM 9 Billion for 6 patrol craft….
Something is very rotten in the state of Malaysia…
Its got to the point where voting for a So-Called UMNO Good-Guy like Saifuddin Abdullah or Arif Shah ( yes, he’s a good man) amounts to supporting the dirty stinking system.
The UMNO-run system is KOTOR !
I may not say Anything But UMNO, but I Will NOT support this rotten system.
FGV that ventures in international business is on drip-feed and if not closely monitored could be considered as a failed Malay MNC. FGV should divest out of FH and allow KPF to exercise its pre-emptive rights. In addition, the appointment of the current Chairman of KPF was deemed to be ultra vires the by-laws and rulings of KPF.
The truth is already plain to see here… and there is no need to incur unnecessarily expenses to appoint consultants. I am sure the independent consultants would concur with your concluding statement, Doc… “To KPF members, my advice is “JANGAN SIA SIAKAN USAHA ANDA SELAMA INI. PERCAYA KEPADA PENGURUSAN DAN BUKAN KEPADA AHLI POLITIK.”
Doc..,your sentimental words flow deep inside me… “After all the years of suffering and toiling the land in the middle of the jungle…” . It is indeed Peneroka(s) blood, sweat and tears and by right we should give them their rights to wholly own FH with 1 Golden Share to the government.
Then Zul, what would be the response!
After all the talkings, it’s all useless when everything is stacked against you. Including our Dr Raffick never believe in ABU. The “nuclear weapon” that would “blast” UMNO away
What the point in talking about Felda? Just talk about poll reform, discrepancies, phantom voters & gerrymandering
Najib says number matters
Perhaps, I should ask……Does it matter to solve a few good souls in UMNO? When it would be better to “obliterate” them
God flooded the world while saving Noah……It’s in your Quran……..Do you know the significant of the story?
Relax lah looes 74… WORRYING does not take away tomorrow’s TROUBLES, It takes away today’s PEACE. I am sure God has faith in Dr Rafick’s abilities…
After GE13.. you and me and perhaps Doc Raffick can sip tea at Clarke Quay.. and I would narrate to you the significance of Prophet Noah’s story.. ok bro? -)

Gosh,
May God help us?
Dear looes74,
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution below was adopted on December 15, 1791.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.
But when was the first African American and the 44th President of the United States got elected? It is more than 200 years after the aforesaid amendment.

No wonder when I was studying in secondary school, my friend rejoiced hearing the news that Mahathir got heart attack.
Let hope we shall stay true to our course. It’s ABU all the way. Make sure they are buried 6 feet under ground

follow the money trail and you will find the answer why UMNO is desperate to list Felda by hook or by crook.
Hey, EPF is RM6.0b out to Felda Group, dont forget.
You think RM250m cows are shit enough. when Felda shit hits the fan, then Shahrizat cow-scandal is small change.

Takkan Melayu Hilang Di Dunia? …dream on !
I was in Singapore the last few days for work. Have not been to Singapore for over 20 years. The driver of the taxi that drove me from the airport to my hotel was Malay. On the ride to the hotel he pointed out that all the land along the coast that was now fully developed was reclaimed land. He said that Singapore could no longer buy sand from Indonesia or Malaysia – so Singapore now buys its sand from Vietnam. He suggested that maybe the Malaysian government should consider letting Singapore mine all the sand it needed from the Pahang and Perak river so that floods would not occur as frequently as they do now – this way Singapore would have their sand and Malaysia gets two strikes against Singapore: Payment for the sand and flood prevention! I quietly smiled at his logic. If only our politicians could think that clearly!
At night I would watch TV as I ate dinner and what I saw on Singapore TV gave me some explanation as to why Malaysia is so far behind Singapore. No I am not just talking about the physical aspect of development where a comparison between the two countries would be an exercise in futility: Where would you begin? From Changi airport, the taxis I took, the buses and trains that I used to the presence of a city confident in its growth and secure of its place globally, Singapore is everything that Malaysia is not!
Singapore TV is filled with programs that provides you with information of world events, knowledge about anything that you would care to know and learn about and many programs that tells Singaporeans that life out there is to be lived and enjoyed responsibly. No politicians in sight on their TV. Nothing that would allow any sensible, intelligent Singapore TV viewer to be upset at any attempt by the Singapore government to try and influence them on matters political.
Malaysian TV is pathetic and an embarrassment to watch. Talk show hosts that are so condescending to their guests that it makes me cringe! We have crowds of people being told about the latest government projects that will benefit them and the nation. What passes for Television programs is in reality government propaganda – pure and simply drivel and unmitigated spew of useless information that benefits no one – not even the government because all it does is to turn the thinking viewer against such blatant propaganda of a BN government desperate to win a coming general election. I remember one episode where this Malay politician was opening a show or seminar of some sort by unfurling a banner with a giant size portrait of himself! It makes me want to spew!
What was more disturbing to me is thinking how all this rubbish on Malaysian Television will affect those Malaysian watching Malaysian TV. If that is the only TV they watch then what chance do these people have of developing into a better human being? We have been told that we are what we eat…well I think what our government allow our people to watch on TV and read in the media is what we will be: a people blinkered and oblivious to the world outside.
But as a Malay what saddens me is that the politics within UMNO defines us Malays as we have never been defined before. Before this the Malays saw themselves as a people who went about their life with a quiet dignity secure in the knowledge that as a people, they had the respect of the other races and felt themselves worthy of being Malays – son of the soils. More important we had a sense of self worth.
Today the ugliness of the Malay persona is now no longer a matter than can be kept within the confines of family and the Malay community. How can it be kept from the public domain when Malays are ridicule and laughed at as they try to walk along the path where others have walked – and in trying to do so they have failed miserably. Failed because they are ill equipped to compete on a level playing field with the other races.
This is not something that UMNO can sweep under the carpet anymore.
Today it is the Malays themselves who have realized the dire situation that they are in. This is what the Malays now know of themselves.
There are no great Malay leaders in this country of ours any more. All our leaders, without exception, has in one-way or another, failed us – and yet having failed they still insists that their right to remain a Malay leader is unaffected. The Malay leaders of today are a joke!
The education of our young has not prepared or equipped them to compete on a level playing field against non-Malays in Malaysia and against others when they go overseas. They have failed miserably from their ability to master the English Language to their ability to interact and handle the intricacies of living amongst non-Malays.
I have been shamed countless times when in conversation with Malay students in Australia – not only by their woefully inadequate ability to speak decent English but more worrying in the blinkered approach to education with the ‘them’ and ‘us’ approach to everything – from social interactions to having no understanding that we must celebrate diversity – not treat it as a threat to our Malay ethnicity, to our religion and to our way of life. That they have failed to do so is painfully obvious to me as a Malay – what more to the people they meet. But ignorance is bliss and these students are unable to comprehend that they are looked upon as an object to be pitied rather then laughed at. And so these students go about their education oblivious to their failings. Katak di bawah tempurong!
The Malays can no longer ignored the reality that the non-Malays are way ahead by leaps and bounds in all things Malaysians: Business, Education, civil society and even respect and dignity of their own race.
How is this possible when the Malays have complete control of government since Merdeka and should and did have control over all aspects of life in Malaysia?
How is this possible when the Malays have 9 Sultans and numerous Governors as the constitutional head of state?
How is this possible when the Malays numerically overwhelmed all the other races put together?
And yet all this advantages have made the Malays into a people that can no longer hold their head nobly whatever their circumstances simply because the Malay dominated Barisan Nasional government has failed in their much stated purpose of Ketuanan Melayu.
Failed not in the getting of the Ketuanan Melayu but failed in the manner in which Ketuanan Melayu is used to further NOT The Malay interest but to further UMNO’s interest.
And therein lies the tragedy of the Malays! AN UMNO that takes for themselves what should really be for the Malays.
And it is in the leaders of UMNO that we see the worst of the Malays acting out what the Malays have now become! These UMNO leaders are the epitome of greed, corruption and thievery of the nations wealth for their own pockets.
That the Malays have now lost their sense of pride and dignity because of the misdeeds and abuse by UMNOI politicians of the public office they hold is of no concern to these UMNO Malays. The behavior of these UMNO leaders now mirrors that of the Sultans who have long ago surrendered any dignity they might still have and any claims to being Malay leaders by their decadent lifestyle that they lead on the money they get from the Rakyat.
Are they Malays powerless to stop their leaders from taking them further down the road of lost respect and lost dignity. How not to lose respect for a Malay leader like Najib? In fact look at the families of all the Prime Ministers of Malaysia bar Tunku : Malays all of them: And all of them in one way or the other have profited hideously from the office of Prime Minister.
And with Najib he goes a step further. The emergence of a wife that thinks that being the wife of the Prime Minister entitles her to be styled First Lady of Malaysia!
What these Malays leaders are doing are being aped by other Malays in position of trust and power – where the getting of wealth by any means possible have brought into existence of at least two generations of Malays that have been brought to believe that Malaysia owes them a living: ask not what you can do for your country but ask what your country can do for you!
Two generations of Malays totally spoiled and weaken to expect something for nothing by a UMNO totally devoid of any interest in furthering the interest of any Malay what more other Malaysian, other then of themselves!
I am ashamed of being Malay. Ashamed because of the deeds and actions taken by UMNO in the name of the Malays. How can I not be ashamed that a Malay Minister of Defense have seen it fit to allow a good friend of his to profit RM$500 million merely by arranging for the Malaysian government to buy French Submarines?
How can I not be ashamed of these Malay leaders when a Malay Prime Minister – well almost a Malay Prime Minister! – saw it fit to use the people’s money – to the tune of RM$1 billion – to bail out the shipping company of his son!
How can I not be ashamed when a Minister, no less, is sent as our Ambassador in Washington after being caught out for outraging the modesty of a waitress serving him!
These Malays do more damage to the Malays at large then to themselves.
The Malays had Dato Onn, Tunku, Tun Razak, Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Dr Ismail Ali, Ghazali Shafie …all great Malay leaders whose duty was to the Malays and to Malaysia and all Malaysians!
Who do we have now? Malay leaders whose idea of being great is having the latest model Mercedes and living in mansions paid for by their thieving of the people’s money and taking actresses or singers for their wives and mistresses! And the Malay singers and actresses who thinks that these ageing lotharios is a good catch probably defines the materialistic mind frame that permeates too many Malays everywhere.
It pains me to see the Malays like this. It pains me even more when the most concerned of people are not the Malay leaders but the other races who are witness to the Malay fall from grace. The non Malays worry for the Malays more then the Malay leaders because they know that until the Malays are energized to do something for themselves by getting rid of these useless Malay leaders, then they too would have to bear the brunt of the corruption and the rape and pillage of their country by these UMNO leaders.
Let us all realize that we are all in this together. What the Malays are now enduring the other races are also enduring and we can only get out of this impasse by working together.
The irony that I as a Malay is mocking and putting down my own race is not lost on me. Cutting off my nose to spite my face! For me UMNO has cut of the Malay nose a long time ago. PKR is not far behind because here again is a Malay dominated political entity that is run by Malays who presumes it is their right to do as they please in PKR because they are the leaders of PKR. If UMNO has cut of the nose of the Malay face then PKR is working on the ear!
I say all this because it needs to be said. It cannot be ignored that the Malays have now lost their way in a country they call their own. If they cannot see themselves being so then I will point that out to them. If you want to assail me for being a turncoat to my own race by living in Australia – let me tell you this. A Malay is still a Malay wherever he or she is.
Open your eyes, engage your brains. Think and ask yourself if you are proud to be a Malay in Malaysia today. I am not. I no longer wish to refer to myself as a Bumiputra because being a Bumiputra does not make me any more a Malay as a Chinese would be more a Chinese if he lives in China or an Indian in India!
Being a bumiputra is an embarrassment to anyone today because it denotes an unfairness within a society that tells you that birth, race and religion entitles you to being someone else other then what you are not – a first amongst equal. Today privileges of birth no longer hold any sway over civilized societies – be you a Sultan or the son of a Prime Minister. Everything that you want to be must be earned through hard work and decent labor. And this is why the position of the Malays in Malaysia have long ago been compromised by an UMNO government that sees the Malays only as a tool to further their hold on power in this country.
But having had power for the last 53 years UMNO has not discarded the Malays – no they still have need of the Malays to win the next general elections and the next and the next! The question now is whether we Malays will let them use us anymore!
My fellow Malays look around you and ask yourself why we now like this? We allow our leaders to engage in gutter politics! They no longer talk about extra marital sex as being against Islam – today it is sodomy! Today it is Malay leaders who take second wives without the knowledge of their first wives. Today it is about using religion to threaten and cowered the other races into threading softly in their own country on pain of being branded anti Islam and anti Malays.
Takkan Melayu hilang di dunia!
Let me tell you Malays this. We Malays were never on the world stage! The Chinese were. The Indians were. Not the Malays. So please wake up from the UMNO induced slumber that our people have been in for so long. Fifty-three years to be exact! Our Malay Prime Minister today does not have half the respect the Malay Penghulu used to have in the days when the Penghulus in the kampongs were leaders of the Malays in the rural areas.
But this I know. As a human being we are responsible for who we are and who we want to become. Against all odds the Chinese and other races have survived in Malaysia. Survived better then the Malays. It is time we Malays cast aside these useless Malay leaders that lives off our ethnicity to only further their own vested interests not the Malays.
They are Malay leaders amongst us now that can provide us with an enlighten leadership to take not only the Malays but also all Malaysians towards a better Malaysia. Nurrul for one But only because she has not had the time to be what her father and so many Malay leaders have now become : UMNO in their thinking, UMNO in their actions and UMNO in the promotion of no other interest but their own. The worry is that given time Nurrul would be what her father is today – a man who held so much promise for the future of our race and our country and yet delivered so little. Let us make sure that Nurrul will not fail. The Malays will not survive another Najib or another Anwar!
Raffick,
In this FTTP system, how can you choose few good men from UMNO? Again still have doubt in ABU?
We just have STUPID MALAY’S …running this country…., now…, they want to make you all peneroka’s of FELDA…Assholes ….by convincing to list Felda…for their mothers gain…not yours.
Hope naive peneroka…, will not buy into guys that have no principals…, it’s all sell for these Bastards..?
