Dear Dato Zaid
-
Salam to you and your family.
-
Firstly thank you for inviting me to your home last night. I enjoyed the “ayam kampong”, your company and the pleasure of exchanging thoughts with your other guest. I believe by now you can appreciate that I am not a politician and probably will not meet the necessary criteria to be a politician in Malaysia. Therefore you need to appreciate my points below from the angle of a social activist that put the country first and everything else second. My apologies if my writing sounds like a student trying to tell a “political sifu” on what to do. That is not my intention.
-
I welcome your press release that you intent to form a new political party in Malaysia after leaving PKR. It is a free country and any 7 people with which have a common ideology can form a party under the law. Personally, I believe that it is the right thing to do considering that the current PKR party leadership condones foul play and abuse of due process in the election process. It has shown the dark side of PKR. This has dented my personal opinion about PKR leadership significantly. There is no doubt that creating another party would be the only recourse for you at the moment in an attempt to enhance the color of the current political landscape in the country.
-
In preparing the party objectives, I hope that you would translate the universal values of Islam into something that every Malaysian can accept and appreciated. It would be great if you can do it in the context of Malaysian without focusing along ethnic or religious lines. I am talking about humanistic values rather than appearances or Islamic law per se. In Malaysia we need to translate and focus on the value proposition of the religion rather than the religion itself to ensure that what is being put forward is acceptable by all and will not cause undue concern to anyone. I suppose there isn’t a need for me to explain in detail to an intelligent and experience man like you. I am sure you have the right network and think tank to work out what need to be done. The new party must outlived the interest of its founding members and it must pass the test of time today and in a distant future.
-
While one can plan big, it is always imperative to take measurable and realistic steps in aiming for the final goal. The goal is not Putrajaya but to make Malaysia a better place for its citizen. This cannot be achieved via one or two GE. Form a party with a simple hierarchy which does not requires members to go through the process of electing too many people. It is sufficient for members to elect one National Chairman and one State chairman. The person that has been elected as chairman than nominate their own set of people to fill the many customary post. This is to ensure that a strong Chairman team is form and to minimize the politicking every time a party election is called as well as focused on party agenda.
-
In Malaysia party leaders are also elected MP’s or ADUN’s. In my view this need to change. The party key office bearers which include the Chairman at National and State level must not contest in the General Election. The party must identify members who are of good standing with the right credentials and assist them in contesting and winning the respective seats. These elected members will be pushed party ideology via their respective position either in government or outside the government. We must appreciate that there are many good and intelligent Malaysian that can govern the country but do not have the necessary skills to be a politician. This people must be put to the fore. Party office bearers need to focus on party affairs. Those who wish to contest must vacate the party positions that they held. This is important as you need to silence your critics as well as bringing a totally new flavor to the Malaysian political scene.
-
Lastly, I do hope that the party focused on what it wants to do and don’t need to attack Anwar, Azmin or Najib or anyone else in their personal capacity. It is acceptable to focus on their weak policies and make good proposal that will challenge this policies. Focus on the policies rather than the personalities. GE13 is near. Time is essence. Therefore I can safely assume that you have already started doing the necessary leg work to get the right kind of people to be with this new party. You need to get the right brain and use marketing strategies in populating the new party as well as uniting the scattered political factions. As for me, I am not yet a member of any political party in Malaysia because I find the party constitution does not gel with my own thinking. I will wait and see what the new party would be like and if it suits me then maybe I will join you.
-
Lastly, I wish you all the best. Do let me know if you think I can help in any small way that will contribute to the betterment of this country.
P/S: Don’t forget to sign the e-petition on the Selangor water issues HERE
if you support it.

Question ?
Are they are competing or running for office to serve the RAKYAT ot their own selfish agendas!
MY 5 cents worth of thought :
Most if not all this so called wannabes are self centered political animals.
They forgot their very purpose in life.
As I was talking to Prof lately, he asked me:
Why did we build the TWIN TOWERS ?
WHY DID WE NOT BUILD THE BIGGEST, TALLEST AND BEST-EST HOSPITAL FOR THIS COUNTRY INSTEAD?
The RAKYAT would have appreciated it much more that just another “GAJAH PUTIH” aka White Elephant right in the city!
The opportunity was wasted, and the current PM wants to build the Merdeka Tower just to outdo his former Boss!
What a shame and what shallow BRAINS we have in our so called self elected leaders!
MALAYA sudah hancur dengan otak udang yang kita ada didalam bapak bapak menteri sekarang !
hancusssssssssssss!
Komando,
You couldn’t have said it any better.
I’ve written on this but people are scared…, just let us convert the New Istana for Y.D.P.Agung in Hartamas to become a Kidney and Cancer Hospital…? We have too many Istanas.
Then we can become a the talk of the world.
Why do we need another Tower or two when our health care is at the lowest web……, not enough dialysis machine and cancer treatment wards,…..unless you belong to the elites or the Royalty…., rakyaat, I mean the ordinary ones will be death ….even before they get to see the specialist for their appointment which will be three months or so after their first diagnosis.
We need Leaders who are absorved with the well beign of the rakyaat…not guy’s who would do anything to enrich themselves…., like what our present politician’s are…, they are there just for money, fame and to build a dynasty….., as though life on earth is Permanent.., just ask Zakariah.
So to PNB….., build the largest Hospital on Earth on this piece of Land and make sure all the best Health specialist on earth operates from it…., and the rakyaat can gain from it.
Then The Malaysian Government can aim for a Develope Country ..or else we will be Develope as far as Corruption is Concern.
Just don’t know why we have so short minded Idiot’s for our Leaders.
Doc,
Pls check this interview that Zaid gave to FMT.
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/fmt-english/politics/pakatan-rakyat/13635-pkr-is-a-cult-organisation-claims-zaid
He is full of himself and simply disgusting to me. He is nothing but a spoilt brat throwing tantrums. A real wet blanket. Im sorry to be harsh here but this guy simply irks me to the core.
If he wants to contribute to the nation, go ahead and start your party and let the people decide if he is righteous. Instead he is doing nothing but running down others. He did this when he was in UMNO and now about PKR. Sore loser.
He must be a delusional character. Full of contradictions.
Dear Habib Rak,
A sick idiot run’s riot…but a sick Human categorize as a chicken run’s in circle…., like a Ayam Daging left out of it’s basket.
Dr. Rafick’s kawan kot…?
Habib
I agree with you and had actually conveyed a message to his ADC that attacking Anwar or PKR is not the way EVEN if there are truths in it.
He needs to bring out the best in him.
“He needs to bring out the best in him.”
He already did that.
PS/ This is rafick second comment that make me laugh today. I like his humour.
drrafick,
Did anyone political personalities that was ” OUSTED ” for whatever reason in our POLITICAL scenario within this three decades HAD NOT and HAD STOP attacking their COMRADES AND PARTY where they were IN LOVE once.?
Even TGNA was NOT exceptional NOT to mention TDM.
Very true but shouldn’t this behavior stopped
As a layman I agree this unwarranted behaviour should STOP.
But the POLITICIAN do this for their political SURVIVAL and political MILEAGE.
Pelangisenja,
So basically you are a politician…., and you are seeking mileage in this blog.
Petra wrote in MT “Long ago we asked them to start a Malay language newspaper to reach the rural or Malay voters. Did they do that?” and Khalid says Selangor will form a media infrastructure body.
Just curious, whose money are they going to spend to do all this? From an ethical point of view, are they supposed to do this? So what the third force are going to do and tell?
Dear Doc,
Replies to your article.
PARA 1 & 2 – Informal reply to a Letter.
Para 3 – You clearly showed you had a axe to grind with Azmin regarding Bukit Antarabangsa….., this is not the way a season BLOGGER like you should portary youself.
Para 4 – Party objectives to translate into Universal Values of Islam…. ( Doc ,…..we are a SECULAR STATE ) we are diverse and the values should portary all religion’s in Malaysia…, ( Not all five finger are the same ).
And for Zaid’s Network…, I feel his Kaki Kuda member’s will be his FORT…., so will be his BINGE Partnets.
Para 5 – Zaid is just about more then ” HANGAT HANGAT TAHI AYAM ” ….., a sore looser…., worst then a STAG.
Para 6 & 7 – no point commenting since it’ll not resolve anything.
Para 8 – For your pragmatism …better go carry his *****, or just join his party.
What goes around comes around ….but not to a sore LOOSER.
Doc Rafick,
Please Let your visitor’s / commentor’s browse through this article.
A friend sent me this article with the attached note that he knew the writer. What, indeed, is happening to our country?? Look at Zaid?
I am sending this to you is because I know the author personally. My former colleagues at Pertanian Baring Sanwa, now famously known as CIMB will agree that when he was the Chairman of PBS he was very pro NEP.
What is happening now in the country must have disturbed him very much for him to pen this article and for him to express such grave concern and disappointment. Hopefully more of the Malays in this country realise the wrongs of BN and esp Dr M, the racist and dictator, the author of the downfall of Malaysia.
IF THE GOVERNMENT IS SINCERE THEY SHOULD TAKE THE VERY WISE ADVICE BY DATUK DR.AGOES SALIM.
Why Malaysia has become such a rotten country? Rampant corruption, no rule of law, rotten education system, tainted judiciary system, deeply divided Rakyat and a moron & bloated civil service that is subservient to UMNO only. See the recent flood disaster in Kedah. What is the federal BN government doing?
Why? Why? Why? – When the Malay fights, there is no morality and sentiment left.
A Very Wise View from Datuk Dr Agoes Salim
Datuk Dr Agoes Salim is an an economist and first secretary-general of the National Unity Ministry. He is also former chairman of Bank Pertanian. He was on the public service secretariat of the National Operations Council following the riots and helped draw up both the Rukun Negara and the NEP

A Very Wise View
Dominating role not healthy for nation,
I THINK we are farther apart now than we were in 1969.
But you have to remember that I grew up going to an English school, to a university where there were people of all races. At that time, although we did think in terms of race, it wasn’t in the way people do now. We felt that we were Malayans. We socialised much better than we do now.
Bahasa Malaysia can be a unifying factor. But it can be a factor separating people, too.
As Sukarno would say, “The important thing is the jiwa.”
You don’t have to have a common language, if you have the same jiwa (heart, spirit, passion, devotion). This is what we don’t have right now.
In 1956, the historical society of Universiti Malaya went to India.
There were lots of Indians in the group, but they didn’t think of themselves as Indians, they thought of themselves as Malayans.
That’s the jiwa.
But later on, because of certain reactions, suddenly people stayed away from this jiwa — they don’t feel as though they are fully Malaysian. They are made to feel that way.
When I was in the service, there were lots of non-Malays in the civil service, holding good positions. But do you see them now? If you go to the universities, where are the non-Malay professors?
After 1969, suddenly there was this drive to make sure that all university vice-chancellors and faculty deans were Malay. So, in the end, we chased away all the best brains among the non-Malays.
When schools say you must start school with a doa (Muslim prayer recitation),you push away all the non-Muslims. When I was at school, we never had any prayers. Whatever we learnt in religious class was a separate thing.
I think it’s more important that we bring people together, rather than pushing religion so hard that it alienates other people. This is what’s happening. I can’t blame the Chinese and Indians; why should they go to a sekolah kebangsaan (national school), when they have to do all these things?
All the things are breaking down. Our school system is not as it used to be. We are producing supposedly so many students with so many As, but what do they know? Are we happy about it? The leaders seem to be happy about it.
We came up with the Rukun Negara because, after 1969, there was the feeling that the nation was breaking down. People had forgotten what it was all about. So, we thought we could bring people back together — unite them. That’s what the first part of the Rukun Negara is about: the objectives of the nation.
Unfortunately, we did practically nothing to promote an understanding of the Rukun Negara. And when schools make mistakes, nobody corrects them. That should have been the role of the Department of Information.
In the beginning, Tan Sri Ghazali Shafie did try to apply the test of whether something was in consonance with the Rukun Negara or not. But then, the government just forgot about this.
We are supposed to be a united nation, not only in terms of state, but also in terms of people: that they would all consider themselves as Malaysians, and that this was their country and their nation. We wanted all these people to share the wealth of the nation.
One of the things we thought contributed to ’69 was the economic disparities, joblessness.
The New Economic Policy was a policy for all Malaysians; not just for the Malays. But we wanted to restructure the economy so that the Malays would come out of the rural agriculture sector into the commercial sector.
We wanted Malay participation at all levels of economic activity. We wanted to uplift the Malays without reducing the position of the others.. — “eradicating poverty regardless of less”.
And this was supposed to be in a situation of growth. Not just sharing the existing cake, but the cake must grow, so that these people also have the opportunity to grow.
At the same time, we also hoped that the Malays would grow a little faster. So, they set this target of 30 per cent equity in 20 years. I was not much in favour of that because I didn’t think it was achievable. I felt that participation was more important than wealth.
We never thought that we would produce multi-billionaires. That was never the intention of the NEP. If some people can come up as everyone comes up, it’s okay. But it wasn’t supposed to be about some people getting contracts.
We did say that we should have Malay millionaires just as we should have Chinese and Indian millionaires, but not so much so that you don’t have to do anything.
You must differentiate between dominance and domination. As Tun Dr Ismail said, “We want to be dominant, but we don’t want to dominate.”
Dominant in the sense that we wanted the Malays to be everywhere; but not to dominate all the others.
But we seem to be dominating; and I don’t think that’s healthy for the nation. It’s not about taking your share and not caring about the rest.
This is a very good article to read.
We need more malays like Dr Agoes Salim to speak up to make more people aware especially malays in rural areas . Majority malays in rural areas are still supporting corrupt regime.
Dr Rafick, you said PNB will have no problem filling up the 100 storey tower, but I maintained that it is a matter of filling up space there but creating vacancies elsewhere and here is Dr Mahathir echoing our contention: 100-storey tower will add to property glut, warns Dr M
Warga Malaysia,
Suddenly everyone is listening to TDM. When the Petronas Twin Towers was built did it stopped development of other office buildings. No!
Why should that be the case for PNB super tall building. The plot ratio is no different for the Warisan Merdeka site had PNB taken the decision instead to demolish Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara and build clusters of medium rise buildings. People will then start being sentimental and the heritage society will condemn PNB.
So are we saying that PNB must sacrifice and forfeit the high land value and not get in return a reasonable yield ? It is about PNB ability to generate wealth and to develop in support of business and social need. I think the mode we should be in at the moment is to think rationally, rather than condemn in haste and to use our intelligence to respond to the issue.
Abang Ak,
Nobody.., is denying PMB, it’s take from it’s high land value.
It’s just that timing is not right,…I’m involve in a Projet in that vicinity….and the traffic jam’s are horrendous.
This area house’s not only V.I., Maba, Dang Wangi Police station and MBS School.
We should first ask the government to get it’s MRT and other transportation for user’s inorder prior to embarking in a project of such magnitude.
Our Developer’s are also involve in another project in the same area…, and Ekaran want to revieve the stall project in PUDURAYA,…., If all this go ahead at one go….., we need miracles to solve our traffic jam’s.
Just go slow…, get the infra right and then ..proceed.
Planing should take care of the surroundings school’s.
Till then Sabar Abang.
The MRT circle line and road network is coming into the area-check from your sources. It has to begin with just one building and people generally will come together and follow the crowd into this great conurbation of building in clusters. It is DBKL’s vision in regenerating the inner city. DBKL is taking back from Ekaran the eye-sore Plaza Rakyat .
Abang Ak ,
DBKL an take up whatever they intended to…, but not on the deadline of MRT to run circles in KL.
By the way…..Ekhran is a idiot…., then again.., they are not relevant without the MAMAK.
Your call Abang…?
You are correct. It has been 20 years and yet the authority cannot untangle that mess.
AK
Maybe I may not know KL well, maybe they should relocate the 100-storey tower to Sg Besi. There, they will probably have more room to design their infra.
Could you imagine the chaos that will arise when they start their constructions? Roads need to be diverted or narrowed down, lorries need to queue up to offload their barang-barang, need to build the MRT station (it is not a cut-and-paste), things need to be shifted in.
As it is, KL is chaos – worst when it rains. I guess you can’t be bothered as you may not be working in KL or to commute there everyday. This is precisely what happened when policy-makers make policy; they only think about them(selves). Policy will change if they are involved (or when it inconvenience them).
On a different note, Penangites are still waiting for their outer-ring road (PORR) which had been postponed indefintely after the Ninth Malaysia Plan. Wonder the FED gomen will revived the plan? Maybe only when PR takes over !!! Maybe it’ll only happened if the PM’s mother-in-law is staying in the northern part of Penang, then the PM will move the motion to revive the PORR !!! Malaysia Boleh !!!
Kata Kini,
Malaysia should have implemented the MRT long time ago. Now or never is the choice the Government has to take. KL will grow . I have no doubt as KL has the capacity and potential . It is still small compared to the other SEA capital ciites.
Yes, it is going to be a battle-field of construction sites when the MRT go in full steam . Work to start July 2011. All together there is going to be 63 elevated stations, 30 underground stations , 7 extended LRT stations and 6 depots. There would be plenty of temporary relocations , diversions and inconveniences but that is the sacrifice to pay for development.
The 100-S Warisan Merdeka is minute in comparison but the objections my God !!!
KL constitutiencies have always been with the opposition but yet there are unending development. Sorry Penangites – awak di anak tirikan!
AK
Fully agreed that MRT should be done long time ago. Singapore & HKong had effectively implemented it.
As for our Malaysia Boleh think-tank, they can not even connect two lines (Putra & STAR), what makes you think another MRT will solve the transportation woes? It is better for Malaysians to get on with their lives without enriching some fat cats or cronies on these mega projects. I presumed that since you have the numbers of stations, et cetera, I guess it might be a bit too late to call a halt to it. Alternatively, I would like to see how our monies are being spent, and who are the ‘beneficiaries’ of these mega-projects. Ada website boleh check details ke?
Kesian betul orang Penang. Setiap kali cuti panjang or school holidays, Penang memang jam !!!. Maybe the Penangites should start yelling, “STOP, you PENDATANGs”. Ka..ka..ka..
Kata Kini,
You got it right…, Abang Ak, …food for thoughts.
It should be relocated to TUDM Sg. Besi and leave the surrounding area’s between Chin Woo / Stadium Negara & Merdeka.., has it is.
The Government should buy back the land from PMB and maintain it as a Heritage Land.
By the way…these project’s are only going to fatten some UMNO guy’s and their cronies.., no doubt about that..?
So he should just tell them like the Mamak…to find a better place or to defer the project.
It is good to know that our Dr. Rafick is Malaysia first (mind you, not Malaysian. Then, a Pathan). How selfless … maybe he is more concern of the (our) country first that the people.
On the subject of ZI, I would see that he would be facing a lot of upstream task to take his ‘Third Force’ forward. As mentioned by Dr. Rafick, any seven goons can start a new party.
To manage a Party, it needs have collective decision in its policy-making. What happens when one Office Bearer does not agree with the rest? Can (full) democracy be applicable? God will only know; especially with all these egoistic souls in PR. Only if their balls were bigger than their ego, maybe Malaysia would be a better place!
There is also a price in democracy. Thomas Jefferson once said, “The price of democracy is eternal vigilance”. So, every round (of election) needs to be assessed and to decide whether it is worth the effort to renew its ‘fight’. We do not however need to fight for issues such as corruption, good governance and transparency. It should be in place with the government all the time as a civilized and developing nation. It is such a shame that many third countries have overtaken us in issues like corruption and freedom of information, just to name a few.
Democracy is ‘of the people’ and the people have to decide what the breathe and depth of that democracy will be, at any given time. Now, it is the time why getting rid of the corrupts and hypocrites is so important (to make Malaysia a better place).
Bro Kata Kini,
Way to go Bro…., we need to rid this country of corrupt’s and hypocrites….., then we might have a better place….
but do we need a third force made of a man without basic principals…?
A man whose network will be his Kuda and Binge Kakis.
BTW…., why Doc want’s to endorse these characters if not a axe to grind on Azmin due to B.A. ( para 8 ).
I don’t know…your call Bro.
Brother Balasi
Doc is probably in support of his (ZI) fight on good governance and transparency. Sometimes (disclaimer: ‘sometimes’ is being used), it is good to give someone a chance. I believed each and everyone of us had our days of mischievous and being nakal. Having looked back, we can only mesmerize the good old days. I do not think that our intent was bad or jahat. I could not say the same for some (or many) whom are/were having bad intent right from the start.
ZI will have a tough time ahead; getting a team up. Personality like him should not merge force with other strong-personality. He is better off looking for people who are good workers; maybe Elizabeth Wong and such – excellent working bees. Kalau ada orang macam Doc, he may not agree if there is too much development around his area and Ampang; because Doc will end up with big headache when there is a massive traffic jam when he goes to work.
As for AA, maybe a good start is to ask our Doc to stand as an Independent in the state seat for BA; since AA is the Adun there. While building his strength there, he (Doc) could also lobby for another Independent or even BN candidate for the Gombak MP seat. BY having an Independent will also give BN the advantage, this will also reduce AA chance of winning. If AA lost both, he is likely to ‘get the boot’ from holding an important position in PR. Maybe PR might second him (AA) as a Senator and maybe later as the Deputy Prime Minister. Yeahh !!! Malaysia Boleh again.
Got to drink more thairu to prepare what will come next.
How to be independent in a country where everything is dependent on something or someone
Betul juga cakap Doc.
Alternatively, look at this at another angle:
1) Though you might be dependent on ‘something’ (I think the most revelevant is $$$) and ‘someone’ (hopefully some ‘samaritan’), there is always a solution.
2) Suppose the ‘something’ just fell onto your backyard (I trust that your backyard is big enough to have a sack of ‘something’ to land. AND strangely, you kids found a lot of ‘something’ and all joy broke out.
3) So, with this ‘something’, you can use them for your campaigning and other expenses.
4) If you win, tahniah you will be an ADUN. It is a good experience for you even if you kalah … Okay lah tu; because it is your first time hands-on as a (independent) politician.
Maybe a dependent INDEPENDENT might just be the new wave of politics in Malaysia for the future. So, what say you ???
Not a Good Suggestion…., but try working with a Devil we least know!
Not the one that pundered us bare to our ass.
Balasi
What makes you think that those (in PR) who come to power will not do the same thing what is happening?
There were a lot of talk (from within) those who had been elected (during last GE) were set to ‘do what was needed’; since they gonna be here for only one term (at least what they were thinking then). So, the niat memang tak betul.
If what is claimed that AA is not clean or fair, so what’s wrong if Doc contesting him ??? It’s about the people, not the party. If everyone elected practised good governance and transperancy, the party will not be corrupt. BUT, the problems is that it is said that there is too many ‘corrupt’ reps.
All corrupts and hypocrites need to go (in the next GE).
Kata Kini,
I will buy that !
Info for all…, when we take over a state..we take the shit of our predecessors…., so do we eat into some mulpractices.
Not all but some…., but then again it’s mild and can be set in order with some guidance.
But believe me…no place for Corrupts and Hypocrites in then next PPU.., like you said.
Hello Dr,
You made the right decision by not joining Dato Zaid’s team. The third force will dye off or may be will not take off at all. We need leaders to think and work for rakyat, means for all malaysian. Sadly, in our country race based parties are controlling the government. I am an indian, born in estate, grown up in estate, not given a chance equally to enjoy the benefits in education as given to my bumi friends without considering my family’s poverty. Now my daughter is 9 years old can differentiate and talk about the double standards in primary schools. During our schooling time, we do not talk about race and mixed around freely with other race friends but now I can see my kids do not bother when there is Hari Raya or CNY. The race gaps are getting bigger and bigger. You are right, all human being must be given fair treatment in this country. 1 Malaysia may help, but again some NGO and political parties are putting in the race factors inside this concept and in long run it may failed. I am watching this concept, till now I have doubt.
My options are still open
Salam Doc,
Only one party for me can guide us in dunia and akhirat …..I really hope you terbuka hati to join PAS…many young professional are with the party and they need special one like you to guide them.
ps: you are the special one like mourinho in football
penunggu,
Of all the person Mourinho….., he is in mourning…., after the 5-0 defeat…and you still quote him …, better quote MAMAK the Keling Pariah.
Then the Chinamen and Indian can balik kampong.
my comment was before the match but i still believe doc should join PAS ..
Boleh ka join PAS.. janggut taada & I dont go around wearing the kopiah
Doc,
I know your option’s are open…., but who benefit’s?
There is more to ” TWO SIDE’s OF A COIN “….that you have to muster…..till then don’t talk about option’s.
Balasi,
3 is a crowd. A strong 2-party system is enough. The 3rd force can join RPK and rubble rousers like him. We need them to hit both sides of the coin as outsiders and not politicians.
Abang Ak,
You got the picture…., I was awaiting for someone to tell me what I was writing about and you did. Thanks.
just hope the other’s and Doc realise.
Funny lah this time around there is only a handful who are willing to comment on this open letter to Zaid.
Ermmm….immaturity and blind allegiance plus partisan rules the day of most of our commentators.
If possible they wants to delete Zaid from political scenario as thou non exist.
It doesn’t augur well for democracy neither national politics.
Betul kah berjuang untuk demokrasi?
” Bikin tak serupa cakap “
Our politicians are too busy being divisive, bickering and knocking each other down rather than spend time working together. When it matters , why cannot they set aside their political differences and work as a team for the good of this nation.
Will adding a 3rd Force make things better ? Mungkin as the late P Ramlee sang ” jika kedua-dua (bini) merajuk ana kahwin tiga ” Kah!X3
Mungkin hati ahli2 politik nie sudah penuh dengan titik2 hitam..gelap segelapnya
AK,
I admire the late Tan Sri P.Ramlee for social futuristic vission.
Most aspect of our social, political, economy and religious issues had been ” plainly and humorously but intelligently ” portrayed in his film. Of cause not forgetting his interacial interaction and issues in view of national intergration and racial unity and harmony.
A true layman BANGSAWAN.
Rainbow,
Agree with you but he copied it all from Indian Movies…, so it’s ANTI – CLIMAX.
Balasi
Arehh … dia tak copy Indian movies lah. He simply need to look at all those characters around in Penang lah.
Say what you want, there is no other P.Ramlee … ever !!!
Kata Kini,
I paham…, one and only….., but got some mamak influence kot..?
Balasi
P.Ramlee is quite observant and managed to ‘extract’ the lighter side of life to translate them into movies (be it the mamaks or the Melayus in Penang). Some would say dia juga kutuk and stereotype the Melayus in his movies (possibly why he did not get the support for his career).
It is really sad that he passed away without getting support and recognition for all his work. Like some might claimed that if P.Ramlee would have been alive today, UMNO would have helped this poor and talented Melayu (he is an Indonesian decent, takdak mamak blood though he may be a bit gelap sikit, if I could recall properly). I am sure he would have been given grants; perhaps via a third-party crony is a definite too. So, it might be a case what they said, “win some, lose some”.
Kata Kini,
I agree with you …and I don’t mine declaring that I watch his movies all the time in Astro……
I’ve seen it a hundred times…tapi tak muak.
Your comment this round is more than 5 words unlike the usual ‘well said’ and ‘food for thought’. And for that, bravo! To ensure your comment don’t go to deaf ear, let me start the ball rolling by asking a question. When Rafick wrote “Chairman at National and State level must not contest in the General Election”, do you think this would work in our current system when we are still not really sure how our PM is being elected?
Taiwan President Ma was elected by the PEOPLE, he is initially without the chairmanship of his party, KMT, and I think they first thought this would work citing the basis given by Rafick. However, Ma eventually had to take over the KMT chairman position because he realised there is no way he could push forward his agenda if he don’t have a control over his own party.
So you see how idealism sometimes just doesn’t work in real life?
Hua Yong,
Thank You.
Regarding the proposal by Drrafick that the Chairman of a party whether in Sate or National level are not to be an elective rep ( Adun or MP neither the senatorship), to my humble opinion is NOT practical.
Anyone who involve him/herself in politics especially in any political party is because they wanted to propagate, advocate and solicit their ideas in various field that they feel can be DONE better.
In pursue this the majority goes and hang on with the ideology and the manifesto of that party as SUPPORTERS and certain individual in the party as their LEADERS they deem has the CAPABILITY to lead them and achieved their DESIRED vision.
The so said LEADERS in return need a undivided loyalty from the party members and TRUST from the majority citizen in PUTTING him on the RIGHT place in orfer to him to get the necessary POWER that can MOVE the entire government machinery and the people toward achieveing their set target.
This process clearly shows that in most of the world a PARTY OFFICE HOLDER has the RELEVANCY in holding public office and there is no SEPARATION. Any attempt of separation from party and Elected Rep will not augur well especially in the third world countries, more so in Malaysia and its history.
The Power game does not sum up so regarding this idealic proposition (proposal).
Well written … having thairu helps.
Kata Kini,
Thank You. Infact I love tairu.( cows milk tairu.
Doc,
Like you idea on point 5 & 6.
There should be separation on party affairs and public office affairs.
May be party members can elect a National chairman and a National president.
The Chairman will focus on running of party. While the president run for public office. The president will leads those members who are elected to public offices.
no need chairman and president…one is enough and his job is to manage party and finding good candidates. to avoid self interest he cannot contest
drrafick,
To my hunble opinion to manage the party is to be left with the Sc General of that party.
He or Her should not be involved in the GE.
I read Petra piece ‘About it being too earlier’ and wondering why he doesn’t stretch the history up to year 1998 when Anwar is sacked. MSK talk about Hilary and Obama but what we forgot to acknowledge is we are still a very eastern society (Islamic values?), meaning to say changes might take a longer time.
I could be too harsh toward Zaid and those that be of the same mind with his notion and ideal, however, I think we over simplify the entire issue.
The multi-racial platform allowed some Chinese and Indian being elected by the members that I believe is mostly Malay is itself a great success and leap. (Some people like to talk about ‘satu sekolah untuk semua’ and ‘Bahasa Kebangsaan’ but they don’t even know the practical ways to achieve that apart from sounding the usual tit for tat plus some rubbish.)
To allow the member to vote is another trail run for greater democracy, and I don’t think PKR could really assess earlier what is the outcome and I agree with Rak that they wish not to see a huge transformation that is beyond their control at this point of time, and I think that is much more sincere on our part to give PKR an additional chances at the next party election. And to force a changes of the political landscape on how all the other local parties elect their leaders.
It is perfectly okay to criticize, but not to the extent of ‘destroy’. I wish Zaid and Rafick would continue to play a role that help regardless where you are.
Zaid’s party has hope if he recruited well known figures such as RPK and Haris Ibrahim, who did well as a pressure group in keeping check and balance in Pakatan
However, if Zaid recruits BN/Pakatan has beens and rejects who are disillusioned with the party or selfish individuals who are in only for the money and power, his party’s days are numbered
In this country called MALAYA once, we cannot run away from cronies and the bandwagon syndrome, we can’t run away from whacking the BAD guys!
FOLKS – we are all human, the instinct is such!
If the party that Zaid wants to form up and run, he would be the first to give it a try….all volunteers, all his man, all his entrusted Lieutenants ! All need not to be paid. All under is CARE ! Most of all, they won’t fight him.
Nobody is to challenge his ways, he is the supreme leader!
As for rules and regulations, the party can be for one and all, no religion no race!
For the human race. Equality, Justice, Fair Play, Honest, Clean & Efficient Governing of the country!
I may be day dreaming, maybe a perfectionists, or even a cartoonists but that will make this world a better place!
Doc,
Apart from the condemnation and disgust for the PKR election process fiasco, what is Zaid offering as something new?
In my view, Zaid started the bush fire to cause the stampede at PKR which resulted in all kinds of foul play and inconsistencies in the election process.
Zaid did not display wisdom, foresight, people tact and humility in his going about to improve the path towards Putrajaya. He came into PKR clearly saying that he will play the supporters role but flip-floped and eventually decided to go for the Deputy President’s post. He created a panic among the “veterans” and these veterans lost sight of handling the issue in a cool, calm and collected manner. Survival at all cost kicked-in.
There is, of course, no excuse for any forms of cheating. But when we put the whole shenanigan episode in perspective of the bigger picture, its a small abberation which is now acknowledged by the party leadership and I trust they will take measures to correct it.
Zaid, is only well known within urban society. His propagation for better governance attracted many including me. But, I will give him a pass for the bigger issues that needs to tackled for the betterment of Malaysia.
Bib
I am on my annual holiday with kids … more holiday for them and work for us, parents.
In brief, I look at facts on issues and try not to be emotional about politics.
Facts shows that
(1) Zaid had problems prior to nomination and during 1st week of polls he has raised objections. The referee refuse to entertain and handle it professionally. By second week it is clear the JPP top guns are biased. Under no circumstances any level headed person can win. In this case the winners won illegally by nothing else than through an impartial and fraudulent process. Undder the situation Zaid reaction is acceptable by any standard.
The shennigans was not started by Zaid but by AA prior to nomination stage. It was further enhanced by the bias referee which sided AA
Well said.
It looks like ” THEY ” had DECIDED earlier WHO should BE the NO.2 by hook or by crook.
* Selangor DAPP has 80 % delegates who voted out of a bit more then 1 K.*
* Where else ONLY around 20 % out of 400K voted *
If it is a SHIP sailing in the middle of the Ocean, it looks like the ” ENGINE ” of the ship had fail completely and the 20 % left is the HANDS that turn to PADDLE the ship.
ONLY miracles can safe sailing the SHIP.

Defeated PKR contender set on investigating election complaint
MARHALIM ABAS
Monday, November 29th, 2010 13:58:00
PETALING JAYA: Defeated Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president candidate Mustaffa Kamil Ayub wants the party to investigate his complaints of discrepancies in its recent elections.
Mustaffa told The Malay Mail after the party’s congress here yesterday that he was satisfied PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the party’s de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in their closing speeches, had promised to continue investigating the irregularities.
Azmin Ali, who polled 19,543 votes, won the deputy presidency. Mustaffa’s votes tally was not announced.
Earlier, Mustaffa had threatened to pull out from the contest over the alleged irregularities but changed his mind after discussions with party leaders, insisting he did so in protest.
Asked if investigations might lead to the nullifying of the results, Mustaffa said he did not know.
“They said investigations would be carried out and action taken if any irregularities are found. I am satisfied the party will continue to conduct the investigations,” he said, when asked to comment on Anwar’s speech on Saturday night where he broke his silence on the litany of complaints over the polls and vowed all complaints would be taken seriously.
“Were there weaknesses? Yes. Must there be improvements? Yes. And if there is evidence of fraud at any of the stages, will we take action? Yes. Will we cover up any of the cases? No. Will we taken action? Yes, but only on condition that there is evidence (of foul play),” Anwar was quoted by the Malaysiakini news portal as telling supporters at the Petaling Jaya Civic Centre here.
Anwar said the party had not imposed any restrictions on candidates to voice their complaints to the elections committee and encouraged them to present their cases.
Another deputy president contender, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, withdrew from the contest after claiming fraud in the party’s election. Soon after, he quit PKR, claiming the party had failed to uphold democratic principles.
Mustaffa, in his winding-up speech at the congress, said he had told delegates he remained loyal to PKR. He said his criticisms only reflected the voices of ordinary members unhappy with the electoral process.
To me it is like giving assurance that ” We will not leave any stone unturned and We guarantee you that after HIS DEATH we will make sure that HIS human and constitutional RIGHTs had NOT been BREACHED!
