I received new publications on Haris Ibrahim blog via my blackberry regularly. When I received the brief from Haris today under the heading “Halt PKR election 2010 immediately“, my immediate reaction was that it is not unexpected. The signs was already on the wall in late September and early October that shows glaring evidence that the PKR election machinery are not well organized and some indication that is not entirely neutral.
This latest development does not augur well for the party and its members especially those who are natural members and not immigrant members. I defined the natural members as members who are not members of any political party but joined PKR because they believe in the “new political” struggles. Unfortunately many of these immigrant members who are failures or rejects in their own original party have brought the bad habits that they learned in their original party.
The people who are sitting on fences are watching whether PKR is really practicing what it preaches. It is the expectation of the people that the party shows a better transparency and leadership qualities. They should not bring the bad culture of party election process into PKR. Unfortunately at this moment this is what exactly is happening. Many who had high hopes that things will be different with PKR began to see that the politicians are nothing more than as alike of two peas in a pod.
If politically this groups behavior are undifferentiated than the present regime in government, what would be the basis that the rakyat need to consider in choosing their representative at the next general election. Should the people vote the opposition because of their hatred to UMNO or BN? Should the people put the country into the hands of new breeds of politicians who are UMNO rejects and show no difference in culture of doing things? Should the people let bunch of untested guys to gamble with the country leadership just because they hate the present government. Are they interested in us, the rakyat or themselves?
These are real issues and questions that bother people like me and many others. I hope whoever wants to run the country in the next term shows that they are different. If no noticeable differences are noted than it would be difficult for the fence sitters. They probably spent their time on voting day by staying at home.

There are always the BAD APPLES everywhere….Pakatan is not spared from this as well…we are all humans….any many have weaknesses
So, what do we do?
Call the …… to check if they are clean, good, honest, clean and god fearing?
Folks it is not a national problem BUT International Menace!
Millions…Billions have been looted from this country through wasting and mismanagement..corruptions…and billions more are being siphoned out of the country…and abuse of power…brutality…racism…etc under BN.
It will just a matter of time…the country will be like Greece/Iceland…bankrupt!!
Will BN change…? No…things will getting bad..to worst…BN government is continuing spending billions.and billions..and you are not going to attract much FDI….huge debts will keeping pilling up….!!
How could you continue to supporting BN? Which BN leader is credible?
Yes…PR is not perfect…there are many complaints..etc. At least the 4 states under PR are not too bad….no big corruptions..abuse of power..of course..some less credible leaders/Katak jumping around…..
I say, at least give PR 5 years to be in Federal government. I am sure under PR….with the leaders like…Nizar…Zaid….Nurul Nizzah…LGE….Kalid Samad….Tony Pua….etc….the country will be better managed.
That’s what I’m hoping the younger generation of Malaysian’s will do in PPU13.
Anyway good writeup.
It is not about just eradication of corruption, upholding justice, transperancy and accountability. Whichever party administering this country must go for excellence, efficiency and productivity.
So PR as you march to Putrajaya ensure that you do your housekeeping. Malu lah as Doc wrote- a reflection of PKR ability and transparency ?
Abang AK,
Doc has his axe to grind …., so we leave it at that.
Balasi
I disagree with you. By the way, I stopped using axes in late 70s. Now I keep a semi automatic Ramington pump gun handy. Its a lot better than an axe…
Doc,
Bolih pinjam tak…? Nak tembak ayam hutan.
Balasi
You ada lesen, saya bagi pinjam. Kalau taada lesen, you ambil pistol mainan anak saya.
Doc,
Memang tak ada lesen…., so kena cari Ayam Hutam mainan kot.
Anyway….PR still have a long track to hike and if the don’t get their homes in order…., we can just tell them goodbye to Putrajaya.
This is a dated spin. You can’t be using the same spin pre 08 until 2012. People become more discernable and tired of old excuses. More and more people who voted for pakatan wants to move from the basis of pure bn hatred to what pakatan can do. They want to see more and not mere talk. Walk the talk as they say. If pakatan wants to use this excuse time and time again, more and more will lose trust of pakatan. There’s only so much excuse you can give before credibility runs out. Take instance the current pkr election. All the irregularities are blamed on the unexpected administrative problems of a first time widespread members voting. But people see that only around 3000 voted thus far and not tens of thousand. In maran only 30 voted. How in the world can you give administrative excuse to justify irregularities? It doesn’t make sense.
Pakatan needs to learn from what is happening in the US. When Obama was elected people wants to see change. People believe in his ‘talk’. But two years on, people wants to see action. US still hasn’t fixed it’s economy. They became disillusioned and formed tea party movement. More people are asking where’s the beef. They said Obama and democrats can’t be singing the same tune over and over again. So in this coming election, there’s a huge chance democrats will lose and the republican gain the electoral houses. You see how the ground has moved.
So in this case of pakatan, it must concentrate on delivery. It must focus on rakyat. It must walk the talk. Then your spin becomes believable and ada umph. You not only now condemn bn but have value added. Then more people start to believe. And main thing less and less people who voted for you leave the party.
Pakatan must realise it should not give similar talk and spin over and over again without adding. And then in reality show they’re no different from bn. People see this. This strategy of purely hitting bn and providing all sort of excuses for non performance can only backfire at the end.
Ellese,
Well said! PR/PKR leaders, members and supporters must realise that many fence sitters are watching closely the party governance and ability to administer.
The party can give whatever excuses for non performance but when it’s hard to swallow and people start to doubt – it marks the beginning of a swift downfall for a party that many was hoping will bring change-Reformasi !
Again look at the figures reported my pro pakatan Malaysian insider:
“Ipoh Timor: Timbalan Presiden (Azmin, 50; Zaid, 14; Mustaffa, 2)
Kuala Kangsar: Timbalan Presiden (Mustaffa, 48, Azmin, 13; Zaid, 12)
Kampar: Timbalan Presiden (Mustaffa, 22, Azmin, 21; Zaid, 16)
Beruas: Timbalan Presiden (Azmin, 173, Zaid, 14; Mustaffa, 4)
Bagan: Timbalan Presiden (Azmin, 9; Zaid, 6; Mustaffa, 4)
Batu Kawan: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 94; Azmin, 59; Mustaffa, 9)
Temerloh: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 25; Azmin, 24; Mustaffa, 0)
Rompin: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 55; Azmin, 19; Mustaffa, 2)
Tampin: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 115; Azmin, 6: Mustaffa, 2)
Ipoh Barat: Timbalan Presiden (Mustaffa, 40, Zaid, 14; Azmin, 9)
Permatang Pauh: Timbalan Presiden (Azmin, 211; Zaid, 58; Mustaffa, 11)
Tambun: Timbalan Presiden (Mustaffa, 11; Azmin, 33; Zaid, 10);
Naib Presiden (Nurul Izzah, 120; Tian Chua, 118; Gobalakrishnan, 116; Yahya, 96)
Maran: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 24; Azmin, 4; Mustaffa, 1)
Rembau: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 49; Azmin, 7; Mustaffa, 4);
Naib Presiden (Nurul Izzah, 44; Fuziah, 39; Jonson, 30; Tian Chua, 14); Ketua AMK (Badrul Hisham, 39; Shamsul, 0)
Kepala Batas: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid, 56; Azmin, 38)
Alor Gajah: Timbalan Presiden (Zaid 104; Azmin, 93; Mustaffa, 33)”
is the figure saying like for Temerloh there are less than 50 members for the whole parliamentary area? Or maran, less than 30 members interested to vote?
There is something fundamentally wrong with this figure considering its an important direct election. it’s not even as huge as one can imagine to have an administrative problem. Can anyone clarify? Maybe I’ve overlook somewhere in the voting procedure? Does one vote constitute 100 or 1000 votes?
Ellese,
I got you picture,….. but because our climate day to day is so unpredictable….it happen’s to rain on that day..
Sedih….., PKR expected a sixty % turnout….., but due to this only 10% turnup……., more over PKR member’s from the grass root only use their foot as their mean’s of transport.
But should not be of concern to you…., why become a busybody….?
Unless you have something to gain…?
PS…., I’ve a article…..Melayu…their orgin’s, care if I post it here.
Dear balasi.
Defensive nampak. Though I think your statement “jangan jaga tepi kain orang” is duplicitous and hypocritical, this is not the point I’m making now (but if you want, we can debate, subject to your areement to the parameters I set out earlier).
I think you miss the point and digging your own hole. Are you saying now only 10% are willing to weather the rain? Are you saying now only 10% have means to mobilize other than by foot? You mean 90% of pkr members can’t even bother to take the effort to vote? you mean 90% of members can’t even go out in the rain and all the places rain at the same time? goodness how can you defend less than 10% turnout for direct members vote? Isn’t this a farce?
When I write earlier I was asking some clarity on the glaring numbers? Does anyone have an answer other than the shot in the foot ‘rain’ answer of balasi? Does one cabang has less than 30 members like maran? Then what about the sub cabang at district And kampung members? How many members are there at kampung if at cabang is 30? Perhaps pkr strength is in towns. (but Ipoh barat and timur have less than 140 members voting. Is there Ipoh utara and selatan?). Need more information and tranparency on this.
Ellese,
Their mathematical equation read like : 40,000 members X 100 = 400,000 members.
I suppose. You must believe it without questioning for they are ” mother of transparent ” ( trans-parent ). So they ” deliver ” very fast as their need demands.
Balasi,
Dr Rafick wrote this as a possibility what the GE voters would do in the next GE:
“If no noticeable differences are noted than it would be difficult for the fence sitters. They probably spent their time on voting day by staying at home.”
Could it be the 90% of the PKR members feel the same way? They may have felt that the candidates are no better off? Could it be they are registering their protest?
Rain and no transport can’t be the major reason – surely you jest.
ServiceB4Self,
You got it right.
ServiceB4self,
You are right……, just want to poke some jest and keep the momentum going…., sad to say…some come down real you know what..?
What to do..? They are paid.
this is a report from the pro pakatan Malaysian insider. Just look at the figures.
it’s a very strange figure for direct membership election of 100 of thousands of pkr members. Probably till far it’s small cabangs only and hundreds of thousand members more to come. I hold my breathe til then.
Ellese,
You just don’t worry about the turnout….., PKR members.., feel their right leaders will be choosen even without them participating…
You just concentrate with your corrupt UMNO…., ” Jangan jaga tepi kain Orang “
Ellese,
In my area…., we have a group of nearly two thousand friends, that we call abang adik….., we are not PKR member’s….., but we support reformasi.
It’s like that in most of the area’s…..we just despice UMNO / BN.
PM/DPM can throw all his carrot ..we will eat and then ask them to go to hell.
PM made a blunder in the UMNO G.A.,….it is making it’s round now….., UMNOPUTRA’s never learnt…., they are guy’s who like to instill fear and make it work to their favour….,sad to say people now a day’s don’t care a heck.
So ELLESE, ….go do your homework..?
Ellese,
PKR….need not have direct members…., we are members at heart & soul.
What to hope taking back Selangor,…? Just Mimpi.
PM/DPM also like you.
SPR kata ini salah…Siapa dulu ada janji bina sekolah, janji kasi duit bina itu jambatan (akhirnya runtuh), dll. Ini halal mengikut Seksyen 10 Akta Kesalahan Pilihan Raya 1954?

aelnino,
Food for thought !
Dear Dr. Rafick,
You might have a point for the disappointment on the ongoing PKR elections. But if you highlighted the indifference of PKR and UMNO due to some UMNO/BN-rejects (or opportunists), and equate them the same, then you might miss the point. Sure not all politicians are angel, and some you do not like or do not wish them to be your leader. It is inappropriate to suggest to lump all PKR members as those bad apples.
Sure there will be factions within a political party, which is a norm in any democratic party. Factions fighting within a certain limit under the framework of democracy, is acceptable. There must be certain leaders you wish to see emerged triumph, compared to another faction of politicians. So it would make sense that you give support to those politicians who are truly progressive, visionary and reformist, and speaking against those leaders whom you see as greedy, power crazy, and opportunistic. The worst thing is to discredit the whole party, making the rakyat apathy when comes to political choice.
I am not asking you to tell the rakyat instead to cross blindly on the ballot. While political education is important (to differentiate party and candidate), you should have used your influence to shape and drive the positive selection of the politicians whom you think they deserve support and negative selection of those whom don’t deserve support. Unless you are from the start do not agree with the founding principles and ideology of the party. That is then different story.
Whenever you started a social movement, you need the right political support. If you have not got any, means you have not reached the right person to champion your issue or believe in your cause. Nevermind if you dislike your current MP/ADUN, i think most readers have heard/learned from your blog. Of course, it is in fact alright that you tell people not to support or tick his box in the coming election, coz you have a case there.
To me personally, PKR is currently the only party in Malaysia most matches with my expectation for the aspiration of our nation in future, IF solely based on the ideology. Some politicians in PKR who are very much consistent, progressive and deserve my support, for example, Elizabeth Wong (for the commitment in her work in environmental protection , and for the weak and powerless people such as Orang Asli), Tian Chua (Human rights defender track record), and TS Khalid Ibrahim (for his integrity, professional state management , transparency). I know quite a number of young MPs and ADUNs they are also passionate, full of vision and wants to do right things for the nation (most of them were student activists back then). They represent the hope of the nation and certainly they deserve your support.
If your blog entry would make readers distance from a potential party and making them not seeing the difference within the party or helping the party to progress (based on public approvals), i would be deeply regret. Do not discourage/demotivate those party MPs/ADUNs who are working hard for the same aspirations similar to you. I am sure that in future, the increase number of ‘natural members’ would surpass the number of ‘immigrant members’, then it would make a difference.
P/s: the correct ejaan for ‘calun’ in that ballot paper sample is ‘CALON’ (with ‘o’, not ‘u’). just to point out.
Han,
Cannot disagree with your comments but PKR must know that all eyes are focusing on the party. The party cannot make a slip as people are turning to PR because they want a change. PKR does not have the luxury of time and it must show substantial difference and ability to provide significant positive change . The push factor is a success and the pull factor will cement the people to stay on and vote PR. Cannot just rely on sympathy votes for too long.
Abang AK,
I was in a district in Selangor…., when the PKR Cawangan elections were taking place….?
Small fries against small fries…., but TV3 and RTM were covering it….,
Next thing you know….., it’s turmoil….and it’s reported prime time in all MSM news…
Was these all a setup..?
Yes…., the trouble makers wearing PKR shirt’s just barge in to create havoc…
PS.. WE MUST DEFEND PUTRAJAYA AT ALL COST.
For Najib and the Mamak.
PKR kena betul-betul pikir cam mana menyingkirkan ini katak-katak dan pengintip sebelum GE13.
Ngak nanti binasa semua usaha PKR selama ini
The policy in allowing all PKR members to vote who they wish to be their leaders is good. Again it boils down to implementaion-the lack of discipline.
You can say all you want….., we are not buying it…, we have our own mindset.
You will be the laughing stalk., not Khalid.
picojayboy,
Spot on !
