A friend asks me why I did not write anything about RPK revelation on the affair between the infamous scholarship applicant, Saiful Bukhari and the DPP Farah Azlina Latiff. It seems that both of them are actually engaged to their respective partners. It is hard for me to answer but suffice to say that I don’t have to express my opinion about everything that appears on the alternative media that is related to Anwar. Sometimes not saying anything is probably the best thing to do. Even though RPK says that “.. is having an affair” but I prefer to treat it is an unsubstantiated allegation.

Despite my initial reluctance to write anything about it initially, I find the way the news has spread and been analysed has become so chronically negative (spin 1, spin 2, spin 3, spin 4, spin 5 )to the extent that ever the BAR council is deliberating about the matter.

Over the last few days from so called affair which was made public and spin by RPK, the news is now being spun in such a way to give the impression that they actually had sex. Now it has gone to the level where people question why the religious authorities are not acting on the matter. I have yet to see a single piece of evidence being put anywhere on the net that they had sex or was actually romantically involved. In fact I am sceptical that they had an affair beyond the normalcy of friendship.

Someone pointed out that the fact that the AG has dropped her from the prosecution team had proved to a certain extent that there must be some substance over the allegations raised by RPK. I am actually at loss on what to say and can only shake my head when people make such conclusions based on this type of actions. Beyond reasonable doubt Gani Patail is not a saint and he is also the most political AG in the recent Malaysian history.

However it does not mean that just because he removed Farah, we can assume that there is an affair and the affair is sexual in nature! We all know that in current situation, the most likely probability is that she was removed because the AG doesn’t want the opposition to have the bullet to attack the AG. Under the circumstances, if I am the AG, I would have also done the same thing i.e. dropping Farah from the team. That does not mean that they had sex.

No one has ever asked how Janna Syariza (Saiful’s fiancé) and Farah fiancé reactions over the matter. They had feelings too and to a certain extent the spin on the internet (whether true of false) must hurt their feelings. It would have embarrassed them and their families. Personally I feel this spin must stop.

If there are no hard facts, people should not write anything about it. Anyone can make an allegation. Though without doubt, I must say that that RPK allegation on many issues has substance and in this case I believe he had some info as well. However, the private matter between two individuals is not a material for RPK or any blogger to spin especially when no material substance was presented.
- Let sanity prevail over this matter. If indeed there is such an affair and it broke any laws then let the lawyers that is defending Anwar handles it in court. If the court made a dissenting view, then we can have an opinion on the basis of the judgement. It would not be a fair thing to do to have an opinion on something that is not substantiated by facts. In my mind, clearly RPK or anyone else has not presented any shred of evidence thus far. Even if there is evidence, it is a private matter between two adults, their families and Allah and if it has bearing on Anwar’s case, it should be raised in court and not to spin it to such an unreasonable extent.

Leaving aside the alleged sexual relationship between Farah and Shitful, a point to ponder :
In any on-going trial, can the a member of the prosecution team secretly meet up with a witness at the end of the day ??
That “relationship” could include coaching (or sweetening ) the witness — like how to answer questions during cross examination by defence lawyers as well as the prosecution.
Does that amount to “tempering with evidence” ?
Is there any law prohibiting such meeting ?
Oh, btw ..talking about spinning .. there are thousands out there in cyberspace .. Full time, part-time, free time.. etc.

The law does not prohibit lawyer from meeting her client. Saiful is not only a witness but also an alleged “victim”. In fact they are suppose to meet to discuss case. Otherwise how lawyer going to represent client.
On the extend of relationship, I do not wish to comment beyond the fact that there are no concrete proof being put to table for me to evaluate

2. Karpal Singh is a practising legal eagle ( solicitor and advocate) and a VERY prominent criminal case defence lawyer the country has for almost 4 decades.
No amount of coaching will make a witness/victim testifying from the court’s witness dock can withstand his “grilling” in examination and cross.ONLY the truth and the true one can “undergo” all this until justice prevail.
So is the Prosecution team who has an equal ability in carrying out their duty as prosecution.
So, lets the law take it righteous course to uphaill justice.

Sources in the legal fraternity have also told Malaysia Chronicle that Farah got engaged last year. Her fiancé is the assistant head of the prosecution unit in a northern state. Their marriage was due to take place on July 9, with dinner for her side of the family slated for July 10 and for the groom’s on July 11.
But it was not to be. According to the sources, a day before the marriage was due to be solemnized she asked for a cancellation, leaving her fiancé who had already sent out all the invitation cards stunned and heartbroken.

You seem to care a lot about how Saiful and his fiance feel. Well and good. What about the lies that Saiful cooked up against Anwar? Do you not feel for Anwar and his family?

If you read my older write ups, you would get a better idea about how I feel about the case and Anwar… I think I have said many times that this is a well orchestrated charge!
I believe more will be revealed after the court sittings on Monday. I believe RPK has more up his sleeve than just a simple revelation “that they were having an affair”. That is why the AG was caught in a fix – deny pun tak boleh, admit pun tak boleh – all because he himself knows too well RPK has more up his sleeve and so lets all wait till Monday night after the Sodomy II trial reconvenes. I am sure RPK is waiting to see how the prosecution and the judge acts and reacts before he releases more evidences. Thats the RPK I have come to know – and trust!

I believe why the AG acted in such manner is because he is not sure how much actually RPK knows. Therefore he had to assume the worse and drop Farah from the prosecution team

I do follow many of your postings and have a lot of respect for your honest analysis without any political agenda. Do keep your blog going. Malaysians generally need someone like you to disseminate information instead of being choked with BN-controlled MSM and propaganda. A sodomy case is on trial. A prominent criminal case lawyer who head the defense team suddenly pulls out.
Question and speculation of all sort will arise. One can get a PHD in spinning this senario.

Doctor Rafick, I feel sometimes you behave like a saint and sometimes you say things that are beyond your own comprehension. Many a times I have come across your writings that are speculative but on this issue you are playing a different tune. You seem be a moody person. Are you a practicing doctor. If you are, then one should really think twice seeing you. On this Saiful/Farah affair you seem to be uncommitted. Is it because you are not in favour of the opposition, as I understand you have had a stint with Azmin Ali.

I did not write anything new other than what has been written all over the blogs and msm.
My aim is not to assassinate the character of any of the personality involved but to question the way how alternate media and blogger had turned this unsubstantiated allegations from the word affair to sexual affair.
In fact, I believe I am probably the first to write a piece that oppose what the majority has been writing all along. I disagree with you that this piece attack the character of those involved.
This piece will invite comments with all kind of innuendoes. It is a blogger’s spin .Propagating public opinion/persecution outside the court . On the other end you say let the matter be raised in court and the court decides.

Agreed in most other situation but not in this case as it’s not private any more Dr. It effects Anwar’s case. Soto Mee II is a fix up as far as the evidence the public have seen and we do not need further cow dung thrown in.
I for one don’t give a damn what 2 consenting adults do behind closed doors.

Doc, I think most of us agree with you that private matters should remain private. Any “kuch kuch hota hai” (something something happening) between these youngsters are their business. However, the only reason why most of us are busybody in this matter is because we are seeing this in totality. This character Saiful is unbeleivable for claiming that he was forcefully sodomised. Should he claim that what happened between him and Anwar is mutual, then all these would not be of any concern to most of us. In so far as feelings of loved ones and family is concern, the key people involved are brutal and have no concern for other people’s feelings. Imagine the trauma and anguish inflicted on Anwar’s wife and children, more so when they were much younger. Imagine the feeling of Anwar’s mother who died not knowing whats going to happen to her son who was in prison at that time. This is a tough area doc. I too know that 2 wrongs dont make a right. I wish that this case will just go away and we all simply partake in political reformation that serves the rakyat better. Unfortunately, reality is quite different.
