I wanted to elaborate about Najib, Althantuya and the railway land issue in Singapore which resurfaces in Free Malaysia Today , an online news portal but was divided as another interesting news appears in Malaysiakini where it was mentioned that Pakatan led State Government wants to appoint their own state legal advisor. Both are interesting issues and I felt I would not do any justice if I skip either one of them.

I do not wish to write the details of Althantuya murder and the possible relationship or involvement with Najib. I believe the majority of well read Malaysian can make their own judgement which would be contrary to the position of the law caretakers in the country. Saying a few more lines about it would not make any difference.

I wrote something previously about the possibility the Singapore government have some material evidence that they probably can use against Najib in solving bilateral issues prior to Najib being appointed as PM. Though I don’t have any hard evidence it is a suspicion that cannot go away from my mind. I believe many Malaysians would agree with me and I won’t deny that many wont either.

Why is it that Malaysia wants to resolve the KTM land issue which has been hanging for many years? What is the benefit to Malaysia? Have we not learn enough on how we have to return the Malaysian Naval Base in Woodlands in late 1990′s when the Singapore government increase the quit rent to over SGD 9 mill a year. The same will happen on the proposed CIQ terminals at Woodlands and on any other land in Singapore that is being exchange for the railway land in Singapore. Malaysia will be squeeze till it finds that is no longer economical to retain it. They will then surrender the sovereign rights over it.

Our leaders failed to appreciate that you cannot exchange such land as they are not equitable in value. The rail line and the station in Tanjong Pagar are not subjected to any quit rent. This is sovereign land of Malaysia. In fact, I would say that Singapore is divided into two halves by a piece of Malaysian territory. Any exchanges must be made on the basis of equitability on many parameters. It cannot be done on the basis of dollar on cents alone. It must be replaced with a piece of soil with equal sovereign rights.

The rail line is so strategic that it divides Singapore into 2 halves. It is not only a psychological barrier to Singapore government leaders but a physical barrier as well in developing any land along the tracks. The land on both side of the rail line cannot be economically maximized if the rail line exists. Removing the rail line will increase the value of the land on both sides along the tracks and will benefit Singapore but most importantly it removes Malaysian sovereign rights in the middle of Singapore. Legal experts on laws governing international land boundaries must give their views.

On the matter of Pakatan Rakyat appointing their own legal advisors and not the using the one appointed by the AG Chambers, I feel it is long overdue. In fact, I feel the state government should have done the planning and have a program where all key Federal appointees to the State owned post should have been replaced over a period of two years from the date they form the government.

There are many Federal officers that are being seconded to the state. These include the state secretary, the chairman of LPHS and many others positions. Many of them are not of the best brain and act as a barrier to the state vision. Today’s decision, I would say is historic and should be applauded. It is time that the state government appoint the best brain to run the state government. Finally, I can see a tooth budding out from the gum.

Like any landed property, upon expiry of the lease, the land reverts to the Spore Govt.

I read with interest some of the comments about the new palace currently under construction. Two things.
But firstly, my opinion about it is that it is one that is completely un-necessary. I would even add that it is a complete and criminal waste of public funds, whatever the financial situation of the country.
Secondly, who are the proponents of this new and sinful example of ostentatious spending, if not living? Who are the financial beneficiaries of its construction? The real question is actually not the new palace. It is where the money comes from and where and who it will go to!
And every time such spending is revealed. I have one more reason to believe that this country will be bankrupt, and one more year earlier than Idris Jala projected.

You are mistaken on the belief that KTM railway land in Singapore belongs to Malaysia. The land was leased by the British in 1918 to the Federated Malay States Railway for railway purposes only. Once railway services cease, the land reverts to Singapore’s control. The land has remained Singaporean sovereign territory all this while.

(1) I am aware of the 1918 agreement at the time of writing
(2) If you see fit to use the 1918 agreement then we must also see fit to use the laws 100 years prior to that which says the Singapore is part of Johor. The state of Johor could then go and claim and get back Singapore into his territory on the historical accounts where the British had crowned the Sultan brother as the ruler of Singapore and then place a british advisor to the ruler. The proclamation of the Sultan brother was illegal.
(3) History when evaluated at the current time must be evaluated from the perspective of time. For e.g. when the british proclaimed Singapore as their colony, they were only referring to the Singapore mainland but not the island surrounding it. Subsequently on the basis of history, maritime and international boundaries, they claims that 50 small islands surrounding the Singapore Island is part of Singapore.
(4) We must appreciated that Singapore and Federated Malay States was ruled by the British and the British back then had wanted to make sure that Singapore is the England of the east. They ensure that whatever agreement that they sign between Malay states and singapore is lopsided.
History can be interpreted from different perspective on the basis of present needs. Trust this clarifies

My whole point is Singapore government wants to stick to the 1918 agreement than they must also accept the documents that show that Singapura was illegally hived off from Johor.

Thank you for your perspective. While it is true that the British signed lopsided agreements with Johor, the fact is that Malaysia has accepted the 1918 ordinance as binding. The very basis of the POA originally agreed in 1990 is to amend the ordinance and redevelop the land.
If Malaysia chooses to ignore all colonial agreements simply because they favoured the British, then the very status of Singapore itself would be in question.
The status of Johor’s sultan at that time is not relevant. Even if the Johor people do not accept him as legitimate, Malaysia chose to abide by the agreements he signed with the British instead of demanding Singapore back after independence. That’s the important factor.

Why there was no cost-benefit study nor competitive bidding done for the New Istana Negara project is everyone’s guess. If unaware, everyone’s perception is that there is a cost overrun of more than 100% as if the contractors are making equivalent profit arising out of it. No ! Do you know there was a lot of exclusions when the project was first awarded with the ID fit -out and major infrastructure excluded. People in the construction industry knew that the eventual contract price will increase is without a doubt. Sure, there is a cost premium as the project was awarded on negotiated basis but not that huge amount. The works minister at the time made the decision to push ahead to award the project at a lesser contract sum is history. Probably if the true cost was made transparent at that time and with public outcry the project would never had took placed.

UMNO wants to make the Monarchy happy. It is to give them extreme comfort and wallow in extravagance.9 (which Islam detests). It wants to feed them plenty. Once they are happy, satisfied and fully contented, they will do UMNO’s bidding.
How else do you think UMNO got back Perak? How can UMNO rule Perak without a partner in the palace?
Total up all the billions spent on the Monarchy paid for by tax payers! Even the gambling debt of one sultan was settled by tax payers some years ago. Remember a sultan recently urged his folks to support BN!!!! Another sultan withdrew titles of a former minister when he joined the Opposition.

UNMO can only rule with the connivance of the Rulers, PDRM, MACC, AG, Chief Justice, MSM and the civil service. In fact, this group is the defacto Barisan Nasional.
