After the public relation exercise and biased designed opinion poll that was done at KLCC Convention Center, I spent sometime going through Idris Jala slide presentation which was down loaded from PEMANDU website.
-
Apart from the many “justification” and “scare tactic” slides, one slide is of particular interest to me. The slide shows that the nation debt has increased steadily from RM 90 bill in 1997 to over 407 in 2010. To find a solution that is reasonable and does not burden the average Joe we need to understand what led to the massive increase in debt. Can we say that the nation financial was badly managed that led to the current state. Bear in mind, the government that was ruling us is the same government all the while. Every child that is born in Malaysia today will shoulder now has to shoulder this debt. The debt that was created by the few elitist.

-
I expect the media and the experts to question on the snowballing of the nation debt. Since yesterday, I did not see any. Everyone was to focus on the fact that the price of good and services is going up. It is as if that there are no other solutions in sight. No one bothered to ask why the snowballing of debt took place. We have oil from the ground and from the trees and yet we live on debt! Something is seriously wrong somewhere here.
-
I think we need to address the issue by reducing our nation debt in a structured manner. I had been following the actions of Kevin Rudd the Australian premier in addressing the government expenditure deficit. He has raised the mining tax by another 10%. Going by what is being done in Australia, why can’t the government follow the same strategy in certain high income sector like banking?
- I hope the people in PM department read blogs. If we can increase our taxation net to a wider area, we should collect more. Right now, this is a major weakness. The government is too dependable on the individual income tax as well as the declared income tax by companies. I have only one issue at this stage on subsidy removal. Why should we burden the ordinary people and increase government coffers for the sake of a few people to abuse it! To solve the current debt problem we need to understand what happened between 1997 and 2010.

Actually, i quite respected Idris when he was getting “Mana Ada System” around. Since he joined B..eNd, i have my second thoughts. Before he become a tool of BN/UMNO, we hope Idris should at least help exposed all the wrong doings of BN/UMNO and all the component parties(esp one big white ex-shark in MCA and another equally big black one in MIC, just to name a few). Why talk about cutting subsidies for poor rakyat when you have so so many big greedy corrupted sharks and their cronies hanging around milking the poor rakyat money. Billions and billions of dollars are wasted or ended up into these big sharks and cronies pockets.Yet nothing has been done to recover or at least stop the bleeding of our poor rakyat money till todate. Just take a look at that biggest and greatest “Slime Derby” GLC. Its is totally UNBELIEVABLE that none of the thousands of staff, some with incredible credentials, are totally unaware of the billions$$$$$$ siphoned and wasted during the project implementation all these years.
Come on, Idris, are u with the BN/UMNO trying to scare the poor rakyat firstly on cutting subsidies and then went further to say that Bolehland will get bankrupt in 2019?? Sure some naive and innocent rakyat may believe u and those BN/UMNO politicians. But there are also a lot who know that what u and the government motives are. All in all, I still believe you have some dignity and courage left to do what you should do. Resign from BN and work for PKR before you end up like OTK. See, how a guy trying to expose a big scandal ended up. To the eyes of the rakyat you can at least stand and walk with your head high wherever you go. ACT NOW!!!!!!!!
The briefing by Idris Jala last week served as a wake up call that we cannot be complacent and expect the government to continue to subsidize for our entire lives. We have been enjoying these benefits for a very long time as consumers and this is really causing a distortion to the economy.
I feel that the public engagement last week at the Open Day was a good move in the right direction. We were not left in the dark like the usual previous practices. This time, everything was out in the open and that included sharing the case for change and plans forward. The public is at least braced for what is to come and can be better prepared. The mitigation factors will give the public assurance that we are still being taken care for and to lessen the impact on us.
I definitely support the move for subsidy rationalization as we all want a better future for our kids. The GDP growth for Q1 this year has shown there is room for growth and with subsidy rationalisation kicking in to decrease debts, our country will have a rosier future.
HAVE U BEEN ARRESTED UNDER THE ISA?
dr,
,,,the question we should ask ourselves is Malaysia a ‘Welfare State’ whereby the present Govn. is marco managing via subsidies plus engaging millions of staffs as government servants/Armed Forces and Police personnel etc plus providing various other govn. aided/owned projects such as Felda and the likes ?.
,,,what would be the social and economic impact if the Govn. were to remove these aids or subsidies ?. Can the various activities be properly micro managed accordingly by the existing Government ?.
,,,am not an economist but removal of subsidies will i guess, eventually encourage growth on a level platform based on real market value, which will attract foreign investment back into the country. However certain areas such as education and health services the existing subsidies should however be retained.
,,,its the building up of human capital via these subsidies that the Govn. should seriously review or address or retain accordingly so that in the long run its returns would balance out the so called investment via existing subsidies directly or indirectly.
,,,its the “no free lunch” mentality that should be the case. yaa !!. The “welfare subsidy mentality” would never address the long term requirement of the nation and Rakyat , not unless it changed to “Can Do Mentality” …..Malaysian Boleh-kan ?.
,,,may i suggest that a list of all subsidies be listed out and a proper review be carried out on its “profit & Lost” as if running a business. Only then, the issue could be addressed accordingly. Its similar to running one’s family expenditure-lah. What’s the big deal in doing so, unless there is too many ‘hanky pankies’ to be hidden ?.
Cutting subsidy is good provided it brings the desired effect to the nation competitiveness, efficiency and enhanced productivity.
Naturally the government must continue some form of social responsibilty in investing in human capital, provide scholarships and keep the prices of utiliies , food and transport reasonable.
Austerity drive means the Government has to manage the income and expenditure well and cut down on wastages.
Not with the ongoing profiteering, corruption, over charging and other financial legerdemain that is taking place perpetrated by the various levels of decision makers and crony capitalist.
That is what Greece has undergone into and the citizens are going after the bad politiciand ,the bloated civil service and the rich who are evading tax. This is the real lesson to learn and remedy.
Since the claimed fear of going busted was compared to Greece, then by the same token, actions should also be similarly taken.

That’s the Main Reason for all the craps that still is happening here !!
Wasting time listening to all the bullshit propaganda on subsidies withdrawals !! … When the real problem is CORRUPTIONS disguised in many forms !
And Yes…if this continue unabated …guaranteed Bankrupt…
EVEN before 2019 !!
Enough said !
Hmmm, seemed like there’s a stereo playback .. how come comments from “jb” and “wong ch” are the same, word for word ?
Visitors from Pemandu on a campaign drive ? same script…
Can both of you delve more on the Real reasons why the country is in such a bad state as claimed ?
After all, subsidies had been there for many years. Why suddenly the subject is given so much publicity ??
One obvious (though not admitted by certain people)…. the coffers are empty …. need to refill !
Ever wonder why the RM10 Billion 1Malaysia unit funds were undersubscribed for the bumi quota ???????
Don’t need a rocket scientist to figure that out !
Good try , but not good enough !
Rakyat not that stupid to buy the story !
I went to the Open Day by Idris Jala last week. And I think we should look at this issue based on facts and fiscal aspect.
For the last 10 years, our debt and GDP are increasing. But the fact is that our debt is growing faster than our GDP. Our debt has increased by 12%, but as for our GDP, at only 3%.
And you have to understand, IF we continue to let this happen, our debt will be equal to our GDP (DEBT = GDP). IF this happens, our country will go bankrupt.
There are several things suggested by Idris in order to avoid this situation from happening. (Yes, we can actually do something to prevent it from happening, now!) :-
1. Increase our revenue and focus on 12 NKEA’s
2. Reduce expenditure (including subsidy)
The Govt already begins a total of 12 NKEA labs. These labs are participated by business leaders from various sectors, and will be running for 8 weeks. The objective of the labs is simple: to find solution on how to achieve higher GDP and national income.
According to statistic, to avoid the bankruptcy, our GDP needs to grow at 3% per annum (or higher).
But GDP growth is not enough to cover our debt. We must reduce our spending. One of the ways to do it, is to rationalize our subsidy. Our govt organized a Forum and an Open Day to gain feedback from the public. It proves that the govt is still concern abt the needs of the people, especially the middle or lower class citizens.
You may claim that this is all abt politics. Actually, it is not. It is abt our own economy, our living. If we dont help ourselves, no one is going to help us.
Let’s put aside our political standing and beliefs. Its abt our competitiveness, our future and younger generations. I am sure that, we dont want debt to ruin our kids. We have to develop this country without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
Agree with you that the government must do a good housekeeping- manage the nation income and expenditure well.
Let’s face it , the government had been spending beyond its means for the last 20 years. Through “piratisation” government had privatised profits to cronies businessmen/politicians and socialised losses on public/petronas money. Bakun Dam, IPP , toll highways and projects like the Twin Towers are some examples.
Tell me, with the direct nego and privitisation of major projects that is still going on, will the country be competitive & getting value for money ? How efficeint is our large civil service and the country productivity ? Succes of NEM and the 12 NKEAs is imminent . To increase income through better taxes, assesments and quit rents collections help in narrowing the deficits.
Do not just look at subsidy cuts because esp if wrongly implemented at the target groups will affect the poor rakyat MORE.
Addendum
Then we keluar BARISAN masuk KEADILAN bukan sahaja untuk transformasi bahkan revolusi !

Dear Chong/JB
(1) I believe we all agree on the impact of massive debt on Malaysians
(2) There is a clear disagreement on managing the debt. The government is saying it is by slashing subsidy. What is missing is the detail breakdown of subsidy. For eg social cost RM 42.4 billlon. What does social cost means?
(3) In addressing the nation debt, we need to address the reasons/cause behind this debt? Once we know then we can manage it. We need to look at subsidy at micro analysis level before we start slashing it as it will increase the number of people who will be considered poor. If we remove the subsidy, I think the definition of urban poor would be those earning less than RM3000.
Suddenly, the mainstream media is strangely silent on this issue.
After our PM declared that he will leave this issue to be decided by the public!
But somehow, I can’t help thinking that the whole issue is just a smokescreen for something like this, something like this maybe… just we don’t have to wait very long..
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/rm50b-toll-takeover-plan-for-cabinet-to-view/
What about the stimulus of Rm 67billion that was used to perp up our economy?
any takers to explain this……………..
Dr.,
Considering the debt, how did DS Najib Razak conclude that we will be a developed nation by 2020; with growth of 6.5% from 2010.
Hmm, just wondering …. are ALL the TV stations ( RTM and the private stations) being subsidised ?
How many tons of $$$ (literally) had been spent to upkeep the stations broadcasting almost 24 hours daily ?
(hardwares, softwares, imported films (royalties), staff salaries, overtime, etc).
Maybe reducing the broadcasting hours will save some money and reduce the national debts ?
How many people really watch the craps that’s being dished out daily, throughout the day and night ?
except maybe the evening news ( usually censored ) ?
And the entertainment is so bland …
Anyway, to take away the boredom, here’s something different (for those who hasn’t seen it before).
So relax , enjoy (and share with your family members), and all have a good laugh together !
Cheerio !
The root cause of our current plight is stemming from the father of corruption,Mamakthir, Sleep head playing innocent and utterly naive ‘Mr.Clean’ Bodowi, U help me I help U najis, and of couse not to missed out all the UMMO putra elites Khairy,Toyo,Hishamuddin,MCA,LeongSick,KongChoy,MIC Sammy…. most of the nation’s coffer goes into their pocket..when the nation failed an bankcrupt, they just flee away with billion$$ ill-gotten wealth and live happily ever after…
GuanXin,
Please not to forget the corporate leaders, the triads contolling the alongs, gambling and prostitution and drugs ,foreign elements who are the power brokers ” you rub my shoulders and I rub your” in keeping these politicians, police, judiciary and civil service in power. Who have been funding them all in this cronies- capitalist Malaysia. Blame all , the givers and takers !
Folks,
Found a gem while touring the wilderness.
A simplified presentation, … worth watching / listening …
That kind of explain something, doesn’t it ?
Erh, did someone mentioned all the $$$$ had gone down the drain?
So went treasure hunting …. looking at all the drains around the country … BUT Cannot find any , lah !!!
Strange … where had the $$$ gone to ? Flown out to somewhere safe ?
Damn, maybe need to get some tips from Interpol.
Goodnite !
Dr,
How did the country get into such debt ?
Aiyah, income RM1000.00
BUT gaya mahu, … spend RM10,000.00 !
Where had all the money gone to ???
Read the news ??
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/5/30/nation/20100530193444&sec=nation
1. One million laptop computers for poor students.
2. MCMC will also build 1,000 more telecommunication towers in the country including 207 in Pahang to expand services.
Ahhh, there they go again …bumper crops !!
1. Prices and $$$$..
Cost per laptop in open market / Cost paid by the govt. auth.?
Total costs for One million laptops ?
Who is (are) the main suppliers ? / Open Tender or behind the scene ?
2. MCMC will also build 1,000 more telecommunication towers ? and the cost ??
Eh… thought MCMC is a regulatory body. Now getting involved in constructions ?
Looks like every Monkeys is getting into the acts to grab the $$$ before country goes bankrupt ??
Keep your eyes and ears open, folks !
When will the plundering stop ???
I am shocked to know that our debt level is now at 407 billion. Obviously, the government has been over spending.
As long as all the government ministries still have increased expenditure in the coming budget, I shall never agree that the subsidy should be cut, because these perpetrators are not serious. At the same time the government’s MP should denounce exorbitant commissions given to government contracts, like the submarine deal. Otherwise, don’t count on me to be sympathetic.
If it is the government idea to have developed status and risks bankruptcy, then they got it terribly wrong.
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra sponsored by Petronas consumes RM500 million a year. It is composed almost entirely of foreigners and has been spectacularly unsuccessful in cultivating local talent despite being established in 1998. This is just a tiny example of how Malaysia wastes money.
I was just wondering if were really goin to go broke why did we just gave off parcel L and M, to brunei, that’s lots of money, what did we get in exchange ,black and white,………..well all decisions are made up there ,seeing what happened to sime darby ,i think thr rakyat should ask more questions,at the end it is our pockets
Danny,
Block L & M does not belong to Malaysia, its in Brunei. Its just that Mahathir simply use a pen to carve out the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ) and intentionally forget that Brunei is a sovereign country. Please read

SuaraSabahBlogOwner,
It looks like you are using this platform to attract attention to your own blog.
Anyway, what makes what you write the absolute truth? What are your references? How do you justify your map?
You are right, I am attracting attention to my blog because not many people are bringing up Sabah issues at the national level. As to what I am saying as the absolute truth you can always check Oil & Gas Map of Malaysia. You should be able to get a copy from Maps & Globe Specialist Distributor Sdn Bhd at 18G Jalan Pandan 3/10 Pandan Jaya 55100 KL (I am not selling their maps, I got mine from Singapore).
I hope you are satisfied.
Regards
SuaraSabahBlogOwner,
Sorry, the information that you provided within your blog is not entirely correct.
The Oil&Gas Map shows Block L & M as claimed by Malaysia. Most of the editions shows it.
http://www.mogec.org.my/pdf/Oil&GasMap_2009.pdf
Here is a sample, compare it against the map you have shown in your blog.
A printable version.

Sorry bro don’t know how to link the pdf into this comment box. So I am putting my pdf files as a posting in my site.

Why worry? When Malaysia is bankrupt UMNO can always sell the country to Singapore and if Singapore does not have enough they can always get the mainland Chinese to buy Tanah Melayu. You think I am kidding or exaggerating right.
Look up the reasons for ‘The Malay Reservations Enactment (Federated Malay States Cap. 142 ) ( First Enacted as the Malay Reservations Enactment 1913 ) – in Force in Perak, Selangor, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan since 1914 and in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur since Its Creation in 1974′
That’s right folks the Malay reserve thing started with the British. Find out why for yourselves.
Vincent, please give us ur view on why. Any online link we can refer to? Tks in advance.
Hello, Dr.. Hope you don’t mind some humor ( from yester years)….
How to choose a bride, Malaysian style ?
A Mother was very concerned that her middle-aged son has not shown the slightest indication of getting married.. So one day she called him over to her house.
The Son came home from work, grudgingly. Upon arriving, he found that his mother had gathered a few beautiful ladies at the house for him to choose as his future bride.
The FIRST one was a well-endowed Telephonist- cum-Receptionist .
He immediately commented: ‘Aiyaa….. Mother, they always say…… PLEASE HOLD ON, HOLD ON……….’
The SECOND nominee was a leggy secretary. She was also rejected.
Reason being: ‘Aiyaa…. Mother, this one aaa…, Secretary always fond of saying ‘PLEASE SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN…….. ‘
By this time, the mother is nearing frustration. She called a sweet but plain-looking Teacher. The Son suddenly agreed!!
The Mother was surprised and asked: ‘Why this one? The earlier two were a lot better looking!’
He replied: ‘Teachers aah…. Teachers very good, always say: PLEASE REPEAT, DO IT AGAIN, I want it done 10 times….
SOME MORE, SOME MORE……!’
Her youngest son (about10 years old), was listening quietly all this while at the other end of the room.
Suddenly, he shouted: ‘Brother…. Female mini bus Conductor much better laa….
they always say: ‘NAIK CEPAT, NAIK CEPAT….. MASUK, MASUK……. MASUK LAGI, DALAM LAGI…..
DALAM LAGI LAAAAH, MASUK BELAKANG…. . BELAKANG LAGI, BELAKANG BANYAK KOSONG…..’
The mother fainted….!!
Subsidy or Korapsi ?
Those Big Monyets of various species up at the top …. dare not speak out and call a spade a spade !
Corruptions ?? Eh, what’s that again? You mean how to be rich, without working ?
Aiyah, the word doesn’t exist in their vocab – since all attended half past six education.
They speak leakages … like in pissing, which is a Daily affair !
use lah a better term like incontinence … diagnosed as uncontrolled release of $$$$ …. !
Good grief … are those people managing the country suffering from the 3_Monkeys syndrome ?
Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil … as far as corruption is concerned ??
Someone joked that even the Gods were angry on Wesak day…… Thunderbolts and Lightnings were unleashed from above
as warnings to the evil ones !!
Maybe next time around, the Gods from above will not missed the evil targets ??
Something very fishy is going on here, Malaysians were informed how good was the economy growth at more than 10 % , how much increase in exports/production etc..
and the ringgit appreciate against other currencies, this week we hear that the country will be broke comes 2019 if government spending is not slashed.
Hmm ..what is going on ?
The BN needs more money to fun a 2/3 majority and to get back Penang, Kedah & Selangor? They can’t cut from spending, thus the subsidies? Like taking from Rakyat in a legal way?
This country has the potential to be an economic power house like China is today.
We only need to start by implementing 1ONE most important element that China has been practicing, give the people the rights to hunt down the profiteers/corrupters/cronies/betrayers et al, line them up against the wall and shoot their brains out.
Yeah, right on !
Don’t mind contributing a personal subsidy for the ammunitions !
Help Gomen can save costs of the ammo.. !
Don’t worry GB the gomen will take your money and buy factory rejects bullet at inflated prices.
Dear C++,
Malaysia does not own the Block L&M, please read this
http://suarasabah.wordpress.com/2010/05/23/is-malaysia-claiming-brunei/
I think you must be referring to Mahathir or Najib as the jackass.
Regards
Maybe I’m wrong as per what you say. But then… if Block M&L were own by Brunei, what the hell Brunei want to make a deal with Malaysia in the first place…
By the way… I’m sure you’re a Malaysian and not Bruneian…
That info bro you have to ask Wisma Putra. Ok let me explain, according to history Limbang and Lawas is not part of Raja Brooke Sarawak. However when Raja Brooke give up his rights to Sarawak to the British government he include Lawas and Limbang. Legally speaking Lawas and Limbang belongs to Brunei. From the map you can make out Limbang is in the middle of Brunei and Lawas is on the other side bordering Sabah.
As for myself, I am a Sabahan of Brunei descend but I no eugenics.
Regards
Dear Dr,
The massive debt value were as same as the one (Block M & L) near Limbang that our “stupid donkey” PM gives to Brunei for FREE (please make a FREE sound like the one from the movie Bedtime Stories by Adam Sandler)
Bro, another view about the subsidy
http://suarasabah.wordpress.com/2010/05/29/stop-flogging-the-malaysian-subsidy-mentality-plug-the-government-leakages-instead/
Halo semua rakyat Msia dan aka “pendatang”, duit titik peluh dan darah kita habis dia orang kasi gasak.
Sekarang mau gasak lagi. Macam mana kita begitu bodoh sekali kena gasak selama lebih 50 tahun?? Salah siapa??
When small issue, the UMNO Youth will lead a demonstration at some embassies somewhere, where is it now?
You are right Dr Rafick, national debt is at 57% of annual GDP!
What do you mean we will be like Greece? We are already past Greece. Its a question of when we will be going down the gutter.
Thank God there was a 2 million barrel oil leak at Gulf of Mexico and price of oil is holding high, if price of oil drops below USD60, Malaysia will be a dead duck.
this every govt gave out a lucrative contract to PLUS which was controlled by UMNO and now that people complaint, they have to subsidise. Whose fault was this Idris?
seems…well confirm this govt mismanage the economy so badly that we will be bankrupt by 2019. maybe they will blame Anwar but wait Anwar was thrown in jail in 1998. so whose is to be blamed….UMNO/BN period.
time for a management change and we the shareholders need to do our part in the next GE. Look at Selangor and Penang, the people are benefiting cos the govt there works for the people and not their members or businessmen with connections and they get value for money as well as being transparent!!!!
Time for change or we go Bankrupt and Bank Kurap
here we come Zimbabwe…. joining you soon… we are on the right path to be with you …
yappaaa…dappaaaa… dooooooo…..
Doc, collectively all possible suggestions have been given to the UMNO/BN government. We all know that the root of the problem is Corruption. Until we solve the corruption problem, no amount of good measures will be able to contain the rising debt. You cannot fill the barrel, if the big hole is not plugged! Its very obvious to me that the only way to save of country is to boot out the UMNO/BN government. This government is the one who has put us in this cronic situation and they are addicts to corruptions. There is no way they will self medicate.
dr,
,,,its CORRUPTION that need to be morally addressed by the existing leadership, which unfortunately is just a bunch of just plain rubbish.
,,,We just need to replace the existing corrupted UMNO/BN team members plus also restructure the Governmental organization with honest/intelligent individuals too. Presently, most of them are just stupid lame ducks and bloody ineffective. (except for Idris Jala, i think he is trying his very best to address many of such issues…keep on going bro. !)
,,,Why should the Rakyat/Nation suffer due to these ungreatful and inefficient characters ?. We don’t own them a living, do we ?.
,,,Most of us have to work very hard and smart to just survive nowadays plus to properly educate our kids. Most of our savings, if ever any left is channelled for the kids higher education.
,,,Billions and billions of wasted projects, which has directly caused the government expenditure deficit by just plain inefficiency plus totally corrupted leadership…that’s my take on the root cause.
,,, indeed the “Subsidy Removal Threat” is a “scare tactic” as strategized by dirty corrupted politicians with pig’s mentality !…(rubbish eaters/makers)….presently nosed lead by one arrogent mdm Piggy. eeerrmm !!.
i rest my case. What a rubbish….yaa !.
…I can just pray for the future generation-lah BUT i have indeed properly prepared mine with proper education. ( may God bless them). HOWEVER also telling them that success or failure in any business in life and living is caused by mental altitude even more than just by mental capacities.
Peter – the cause could also include the massive public spending to prop up a non-competitive economy.
Left or right – Malaysia will be bankrupted way before 2019 if Pemandu is driving the economy
The BN govt for the past 50+ years has been running this country like running their household. They give away money like nobody’s buisness during elections and ‘buy’ elections. One can see money coming from the sky. Money one can’t imagine it’s origin. They the ruling elites leave no stone unturned/unchanged in their quest to retain or win over an opposition seat during an election or by-election. What does all this amount to ? Is it blatant corruption. The SPRM recently declared they are too ‘stupid’ to know which is corruption and which is not. Ha….hha…Beleive it, this is Malaysia. Anything can happen. A high ranking official willing to call himself ‘stupid’ for the sake of BN. kah..kah…kah. Hei. The family of this official, I wonder how they take these comments from their parent.
Back to the original questions of subsidies. The UBN govt during Mahathir’s era. Mahathir squandered 100 BILLION. Can you correct me if I am wrong. 100 BILLION. That old man is proudly opening seminars, workshops, etc without a having a bit of shame. That man really is made up of ‘thick skin’. I wonder if all Keralain’s are like that. I don’t think so coz I associate with many of them in my daily chores and I find many of them God fearing. Then probably it;s the keralian politician’s. But in Kerala we hardly hear any scandals from their politicians. Then again after mucah thought I guess it’s only the local Keralian genes who are politicians.
Sorry. its’s again off topic. Lets talk about the billions looted by the UMNO/BN elites in the course of their governmental duties that we the rakyat has to pick up the bills. Mention any project linked to the UBN govt you will find there will be mismanagement. misappropriation of funds leadin g to the original developer ‘running off’ leaving the burden behind to be carried by the next developer. Go do a research, you will find delay up to 10 years in getting govt projects ready. Every state has it. GH Johor, GH Shah Alam ( latest), Police Quarters Pahang ( started in 1996 ready in 2009 end ), the Polytechnic school in Muadzam, Rompin ( started in 1991 and till today not ready yet ). Please visit Muadzam to see for yourself. The list goes on and on. But all this shit is noever revealed in MSM news.
The Mahathir era 100 billion, the after Mahathir era another 100 billion. Now who is a burden to the rakyat’s money. Isn’t it the UBN politicians themselves who should correct themselves. But. No they are pointing fingers at the rakyat. Yes, the poor rakyat is to pick up the UBN govts bill. I have 3 U going students who at teir tnder age are already burdened with loans, yes I mean PTPTN loans. When the govt should be giving free education to it’s citizens it’s squeezing them at a yopunger age. When they leave University, they are jobless for sometime and when they are finally employed on a job for meager salary of 1,200 ( if lucky), they got to buy car for transport ( thanks and no thanks to the UBN govt till today no reliable public transport), house rent, food and the PTPTN comes to their throat with all kinds of threatening letters. The flip flop govt, I remember raised petrol under the pretext of using that money for the purpose of ‘RESTRUCTURING PUBLIC TRANSPORT’. What happened? Exactly the Malaysian public is very forgetful unlike Mahathir who is only forgetful where appropriate.Kah kah kah. But Malaysians are damn because when come elections they always opt for BN. reason best known to them.
Now, the Jala guy who screwed up MAS further has become a very important person in Najib’s gormen. If Jala has any moral or self esteem in him , he should immediately resign instead of echoing the govts stupid ideas. When it comes to sacrifice, it should be done by the rakyat. Why? Is it time the govt that has betrayed the trust of the people that should go. Look at how LGE is running Penang. Any msm news giving him any highlight. No, Never.
We can save a lot more by:
Abolishing the so-called National Service program
Having open tender for ALL govt projects
Stop paying commissions for all govt projects, especially defense procurements
Doc, why don’t you start a list of Govt expenditure and projects we all agree can be shelved/cancelled, put a price tag on it and send it to the PM/Cabinet/Jala so we don’t need to cut back on much needed subsidies for the masses, especially the poor.
Here’s my contribution to kick off with:
1. Cancel today $8 billion light manoeuvrable light tank contract awarded to DRB.
2. Renegotiate $13 billion guaranteed take or pay (gas subsidised) cost past through croney IPP contracts forced upon Tenaga by Maha Firaun. We should be able to save at least $8 billion a year!!
3. Renegotiate $4.6 billion guaranteed payments to toll highway concessionaires. The Govt, through Khazanah, EPF etc., owns about 83% of PLUS. So, it only needs to buy out or restructure 17%. I am in favour of retsructuring given Asas Serba has made a $50 billion offer for a private monopoly which means there is a lot of fat there!!
4. Lay off 10% Civil Service/ Glc staff to staff with. Annual savings should be at least $6 billion given we have 1.2 million mandarins costing us $42 bilion a year!!
There, I have already come up with $26 billion to reduce the national debt without spending 1 cent!!
I’m sure many can can up with brilliant suggestions.
How stupid can Najib and Jala be?
dpp
we are all of 1 race, the Human Race
Your are right there. Pemandu came out with a list where the subsidies went and which one is most crirical. They have not listed any expenses which we can illed afford, giving the economic trend we are in. No figures, only some sweeping statements in appropriate actions to be taken. Are they trying to mislead us?
Doc,
It is rather hilarious just few weeks ago all the government political members and cabinet ministers were patting of each other back for achieving 10% growth in 1st Qtr and the raise of RM against major currency as sign they did an excellent job.
Now with the bad news need to be delivered to people, we have “none” political person Dato Idris Jala to do the job. Have we heard any statement from Finance Minister 1 & 2 and also Minister in Economic Planning Unit? None….Zero…zilght. I think the people know the the reason why. Even the Governor of Bank Negara is gone into hiatus.
Can we really trust what the government officials say about about everything is good and excellence in the future like the deal with Singapore on KTM land deal? I don’t and I begin to worry about our children’s future.
If I’m not mistaken DSAI was fired from cabinet during that period of time. After 1997 he was no more Min Of Finance. The debt increased tremendously after DSAI no longer in cabinet.
That’s a good answer in finding a starting point to understand the debt mystery
he was in jail in 1998. Blaming him is easy but he was not holding the cheque book. Dr.M and Daim were

You too like the blinkered newspapers have focused on the symptoms but not the cause of the malady which is unfortunate for a medical doctor. The causes which is mismanagement (corruption, patronage, crony capitalism, outright theft etc) urgently needs to be addressed.
