In the last few days, I have stopped writing. Nothing serious but I felt mentally and physically exhausted with the many things happening in the office and at home. I really hate it when employees play politics in the office. Somehow, I did not want to write about the happening in Hulu Selangor as I had been informed of the predicted outcome. Once again, the intelligence information by my network in the army has proven to be right on the outcome in HS.
-
Over the last few days, I have been sharing my daily intelligence information with several close friends. Some of the people that has benefitted from this info includes AK, Azhariji, YB Zuraida and YB Azmin. I had also mentioned in my writing in the previous article. I thought I would give PR some info which they can use in their planning. Among the YB’s, only YB Zuraida showed her appreciation and asking me what else can be done.

In the twitter world, many commented on how BN the unfair election. I am surprised at this statement as if they had expected in to be fair! In the last 30 years of election and by election, Malaysian election has never been fair. That is a fact. To expect fair play in Malaysian politics is a remote thing and can only happen in one imagination. Therefore no surprises here.
-
In the semiurban and rural areas where the people have more access to MSM than alternative media, clearly BN has a clear advantage. BN spend a lot of money in this election. Felda settlers were given their long outstanding dues, the Hindu community got a few million for temple and the Sikh community was given RM 4 mill.
-
Come Monday morning, a Chinese school can go and see Najib and collect RM3 mill. BN expected to win because they have better access to manipulate the media. Maybe PR should consider conducting free computer and internet classes for the Felda settlers, in order to win their heart through the alternative media.
-
A neighbour, Sinaran Ukay came to house in the afternoon and asked my view about the election result. I told him I had expected PR to lose and to lose now may not be a bad thing. Selangor is the political crown jewel of the country. To lose HS may be the much needed wakeup call that is needed in order to defend the crown. Sometime is good to lose a battle in order to win the war. Losing HS is has no significant impact in parliament but only affect the motivation.
-
Many people said that PR is only two years old and should not be compared with BN who has been running the country over the last 50 years. Being a new kid on the block, the expectation is higher. They need to show that they have what it takes to solve the problems. The people have given them this golden chance and they should make full use of it to show their ability to govern and to behave like a government.
-
I hope Azmin Ali will take stock on what is happening there and what is going on in his own home ground. As I had mentioned before, the Ukay Bistari abandoned property owners are not impressed of his and the Selangor government performance so far with regards to addressing the abandon property issues. They should take stock of what is happening HS as there are 4000 voters in Ukay Bistari. These 4000 votes can unseat Azmin in BA and in Gombak. I hope Selangor PR learn from the loss in HS in stepping up their service. As mentioned earlier, people have the unreasonable high hopes and expectations.
- PR needs to learn from the loss in this battle and ensure that it does not happen again in the big war in Pru 13. We can’t afford to lose Selangor. Many things are at stake here.
Sometimes losing is good..

Dear Rafick,
Loosing and winnig is a norm…., but then …if a race that is despiced for years can fogive traitor’s then it’s all to do with money.
How can estate dwellers…..(indian) who don’t even have a new village to call their own…., vote for corrupted idiot’s if not for gain….., they might never see…., This is Malaysian Politic’s.
Arseholes with money can let you dig more of their SHIT compared with shallow holes.
Was disappointed that PR lost. In the first place, the delivering system sucks. Giving out goodies is blatant vote buying. What can’t those who’re supposed to be compensated be so paid earlier? Or those with I.C. problems be attended to with immediate effect?
RPK was right, it’s not BN that must fail but UMNO!
Doc ,very disappointed with HS result. It confirms my teory , BN is a political party for the semi-urban and rural areas only, where they can throw tons of our hard-earned money as bribe to the gullible voters. The well informed poeple in the towns and cities are too savvy for BN to cheat or bribe.
It is in BN’s best interest not to fully educate the population and develop the nation.Deny the people access to alternative viewpoints and BN will remain in power forever.
Futhermore the rural voters carry more weight in our country’s elections.Rural areas with lesser voters e.g. >40,000 gets 1 MP but urban areas like Kapar with 114,000 also get 1 MP only.
Historically even if the Opposition gets 50% (or close to this figure) of the popular vote (e.g.1969 and 2008) ,It never is able to occupy 50% of the seats in parliment. The Opposition needs to garner 60% of the popular votes just to get simple majority!
BN is the political party for the Gullibles.
Cheers
,,,dirty money politics !. When will it ever stop ?. Let the rakyat suffer needlessly and come election promise them the world, give them land titles and money etc etc !!….geez, why make the rakyat suffer like desperados and then corner/bully them in during election time !.
,,,hey !!..dirty politics by corrupted politicians. Pls be reminded that the touchy and temperamental hooligan is avoided and the barbaric bully is despised wheresoever they go. These kind of evil people have no more grace or intelligence than that of the baboons. In fact, the real baboobs are a lot more smarter, I guess !.
“to improve is to change, to be perfect is to always change”
Dr Rafick,
“Sometimes losing is good..”
Your title said it, and I would call that bluffing!
If it is as you said it, please answer me… Is BN winning good? Or is the government (read: BN) continue to hoodwink people good? Or is the continuation of government corrupt practices good? Or is the divides among the people instilled by the government good? Or… (please insert many others that you don’t like about BN)
In my opinion, that statement is only trying to find reason so that we are not losing face (a.k.a. jaga maruah), and a typical Malaysian reasoning in the face of defeat. However, if this is to continue, we will stuck with our “tak apa” third world thinking attitude. Why? Because we keep saying to ourselves… it’s OK to lose as there’s good in it. Or the equivalent subliminal message of “it’s good to lose”!!!
…..
NO! It’s never good to lose… however, there’s nothing wrong to admit we’ve lost. Admit it, and learn from it so that we will not lose the next time… because to lose is NOT GOOD! Keep saying that, so we will not ever going to lose again!
Doc, good analysis and well said. Yes, a loss is a blessing in disguise to PR. The Pakatan leaders will have to come out with a better strategy if they want to go to Putrajaya. Your suggestion (and RPK’s) is timely and it is a wake up call for PR. But BN’s way of manipulating votes and racial sentiments will not work forever and the strategy to break it, is much simple than we thought. PR has lots of intelligent people and I believe they can come out with a much smarter strategy. In fact, it is better for PR to lose than to win this “buy-election”, then only the euphoria after the Mac 8 GE will not provide a false sense of security to PR, and a more pragmatic approach is being taken to get rid of BN’s money throwing practice. I am sure Najib who is also the Finance Minister is gathering enormous fund to face the coming GE, maybe in less than 18 months from now..
Hi Dr Raffick ,
I want you to know I visit your website at least 2times a week . Great articles . Please keep them coming .
I want to talk to you about the spoilt votes. When I visit old folks as a volunteer to help them in their homes, I gave them an exercise .I draw a few boxes on a piece of paper , ask them to mark one X in the one box provided . Most of them failed , the X will be out of the box or one leg of the X will touch outside of the box .
Can you ask the candidates come GE13 when they do a door to door walk about , to ask their helpers to educate the older folks on how to mark the X in the ballot box , avoiding being thrown out as a spoilt vote? That may help to reduce the number of spoilt votes
Yes, Malaysian election is not fair. Even the EC has become an Election Cheater. If the EC had not transferred the 1000 pro-opposition votes out if the constituency or swapped polling stations for 14,000 voters would BN have won?
This means that to kick out BN at the 13th G.E. is an uphill task. These are people who have no qualms about playing any dirty tricks and spending whatever money to maintain their power.
Yet, I’m surprised that there are people who slam PR S’gor govt for strategically timing the release of land titles to HS folks for this by-election. Hello, where are you from? Playing goody-two-shoes doesn’t get you anywhere when BN plays as dirty as it gets.
The prognosis for the future is worrying. I’m convinced that another 10 years under BN, we’ll become a maid exporting country. Add another 10 years and we’ll be the Zimbabwe of the East, a dried up shrivelled husk of a nation.
If BN cannot be kicked out by the 13th G.E., my advice to everybody and to myself is to get out!
So much money on by-elections.Why not spend on education.?My daughter got 11A’s (4A+,7A) for her SPM 2009.Until now she can’t get a damn scholarship.
Now her last hope is the JPA scholarship which I think also no hope. Why can’t the govt. do more instead of this stupid silly by-elections
Malkit
MAYBE i can pull a few strings for you. Can you email me your daughter details, the program that she is following now and list of agencies which she has applied for scholarship. my email drrafick@gmail.com
drrafick,
that’s my guy. eveready to help practically.
Dear Doc,
This is the point that I don’t support BN. Why the need to pull few strings here and there if the person is qualified.
The system should be in place and are transparent enough to justify successful applicants.
If we do it, then it’s no different … we are all DOOM to begin with.
,,,but if it’s for a noble cause, boleh-lah yaa !. Networking and connection is a way of life and living matey. Don’t expect a perfect 100% world….some adjustments here and there o.k. kot ?. BUT no to corruption !!!!…or bullying too.
Doc, I still remember that your mill intel prediction. Its spot on.
Im just wondering, since the intel is so good, does it mean that evasive actions could not have been taken to change the outcome from the time the prediction was made? If can, do you feel that such advises given to PKR were not acted upon?
On the matter of computer lessons to Felda, I fully agree with you. I hope that TSKI will follow thru and appoint ZI to lead HS’s needs especially Felda land and education matters. This should also be done for the Orang Asli. Of course all other needs of the residents of HS should also be attended to on need basis irregardless of race and religion. I would suggest that ZI continue to work for HS as if he had won because he actually did… you know what i mean.
The intel was used by the government of the day for thier own purposes….
Yeap, I totally agree with you that most people expect BN to play fair but they haven’t changed since Tun time. Fair is a far word for Tun and which he had made it part of BN’s policy. Fair means suicidal.
As far as we all know, fighting BN is a lotsssss of hard work and determination; imagine has to fight against UMNO’s Mainstream Media, Election Cheater, BN’s Police Force and loads of money that BN has control.
PR either you get together hard or remain weak and get going nowhere even for the next 50 years. Unlike BN which all power go to UMNO, power sharing is a must.
Frankly Im just tired. If they can throw copious amount of money at people (and its not PARTY money is it? it’s GOVT money), then why cant they do all this all the time?
I guess Im just sickened by all this (yes, PKR needs to rethink etc, esp for more rural areas), Im sickened by what goes on, n what they are willing to do.
I cant give up hope that there’s change for the better for our country coming, else what future is there for our kids.
But then again, Im an urbanite, different concerns perhaps. If this keeps going etc, then our country is really screwed, sorry to say.
Mustnt give up hope tho. Hope u had a good rest
Lia,
The answer is very simple…………if they did it all the time there would not be any left for themselves!
Msan, they will borrow to the hilt and leave the country in huge debt. They will do all to stay in power. Only thru educating the rakyat can this be stopped. Lets fight on. This is yet another lesson learnt.
“Come Monday morning, a Chinese school can go and see Najib and collect RM3 mill. BN expected to win because they have better access to manipulate the media. Maybe PR should consider conducting free computer and internet classes for the Felda settlers, in order to win their heart through the alternative media.”
No way they will get the RM3 mil because they did not vote for BN. They would be glad if they are not chased out of the office with a broom!
“Maybe PR should consider conducting free computer and internet classes for the Felda settlers, in order to win their heart through the alternative media.”
Good suggestion. You know I thought about this too but have no way of conveying this to the authority coz m not a blogger. Even if I do they won’t listen to my suggestion.
I am thinking all PR state government should set up some kind of free cyber cafe for the poor rural folks, not for them to play games but so that they can access online media. Or maybe the parties concerned like DAP, PKR and PAS can do it their operation centres. I don’t know if it’s too costly.
Dr Rafick, you should take it up them and maybe enlist some help from people like RPK to convince them to do it.
I think RPK has told them and that is enough.
Totally agreed with the writer losing may not be bad.
Seeing this unfairness and misuse of the public’s money to fool the People, I would not be hesitate to give my vote to DAP/PKR/PAS in next GE.
Hmmm… not proper lah Dr Rafick, to use the results of the Hulu Selangor by-election results to blakmail Azmin Ali…
Dear sentinel
(1) It is not blackmail but a reminder that he needs to work 300% harder
Well, I saw in tweeter someone was saying AZmin Ali and his gang was to be blamed for the loss in HS. Wonder what it is?
That someone was asking AA and his gang to quit PKR. Maybe someone knows something that I do not?
Tommy
I heard that there was some discession within PKR selangor over the matter…. Wanita PKR had to work extra hard
I have always believed that the best service that an MP or ADUN can do to his constituents is to die in office. Then a by-election will be called and BN will correct all the wrongs and carry out all the unfinished work and resolve the problems and issues. Sorry for this but isn’t this the truth?
This is exactly what I have been thinking. How nice it will be if the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat were to be vacant now. So many problems will be solved.
You mean a “BUY-ELECTION”?
To All Malaysian who blames ONLY THE INDIANS for the lost of PKR. I have something to say,
PLEASE READ PARAGRAPH 3, 5, and 7 by the writer and try to understand his message.
If you cant understand the message than you have no bloody right to comment about other race.
Piss OFF
About 70% of the rural Malay electorates voted for Kamal and 40% of Indians voted Nathan. It has nothing to do with national agenda, it is instant MEE and bread and butter issue. The UMNO machinery assisted by UMNO from other states who had practically camped in HS during the whole campaigning period (as UMNO Selangor was not functioning) to attend to the needs of HS electorates was another major factor. On the contrary, PAS( never known to be strong in HS) and PKR Malays were disunited and never around to appeal to the Malay voters.
Politics/Elections is a numbers game, acknowledging the demography of voters and strategising accordingly is important.
PR lost this HS battle is a wake-up call to them ONLY if they take stock of the situation. Recent defections of many pioneer Malay PKR members( must be due to internal trouble and positions tussle within PKR leadership) will have a very bad effect, left unchecked will bring a spiral downfall for PKR and correspondingly PR. PR may win the urban and semi-urban areas but it is the rural areas that PR have to win the votes. PR have to apply the correct strategy, be close to them and win their hearts, be examplary, attend to their immediate needs. PR do not have a big war-chest like BN, who can come once in the blue moon, be a Santa Claus and throw goodies.
Many goodies were dished out by BN and too tempting not to accept. Maybe voters thought it won’t change anything if BN won. After all PR losing one seat won’t give BN 2/3 majority in Parliament.
The Felda settlers would now get the rest of their money, the Chinese get money for their school and the Indians get money for their temple. Everyone is happy but forgot that all of this money is theirs to begin with. The government’s money is the people’s money.
To the voters, what was important are everyday issues that affect them directly. National issues are too abstract.
PR used the wrong tactics in this re-election. There was no point for Selangor state government to promise benefits to the voters because BN can outspend and outpromise PR.
Better that the state government got the local councils to immediately clean the drains, cut the grass and sweep the roads. At least these can be seen and it affects everyone’s everyday lives.
Putting down BN’s candidate had very little effect because the allegations and ‘proof’ of his ‘fake’ degree were online but most of the voters don’t use the Internet.
There was not a single catchword or rallying cry that could galvanize the voters. Altantuya could have but that is ‘an old story’. APCO is a non-issue with rural folks. Not having something to rally the voters and identify with them was a critical point.
The alternative media is fine with urban areas but not with rural areas. Pamphlets would have been a better way of getting the message across in rural areas. It is harder work but voters who don’t use the Internet can only read alternative news in printed form, ie pamphlets.
Whether a local person could have won is still debatable especially when the local person most talked about as the candidate jumped ship to BN when he was not selected. So there is really no suitable local person for PR to choose.
HRP is saying that the Indians voted for BN. And that PR needed to curry favors with them in order to win over the Indian votes. HRP is thinking too highly of themselves.
No doubt Indian votes are important but everyone else’s votes are just as important. Indians must come to realization on their own the issues that are at hand.
If Indians need to be influenced by a group like HRP, it means they have not broken out of their bondage. It is merely substituting MIC with HRP or any other party in favor at that time.
Abandoned housing projects actually fall under the purview of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. This makes it a Federal issue. Once land has been alienated to the developer, there is very little that the state government can do.
The state government can’t simply seize the land. The matter must be brought to the court to decide. If the land has been charged to a bank (which is very often the case) then there is no way the state government can take back the land.
If the development company has not money to complete the project, what use is imposing a fine on it? The developer simply won’t pay. All the state government can do is try to find another developer to complete the project and waive off any amounts owing to the local and state governments to help the new developer and the unfortunate buyers.
Sorry to disappoint all.
I thought I saw Dr. Rafick there. It seems I was wrong. Anyway, they all look the same to me; dark hair, brown eyes and whatever …
Good to see that the Independent candidates were the winners. How, you may ask? Well, they get to get their Deposit back, and maybe with a bit of tipping. No need to work their arse off.
Welcome to Malaysian politics. BTW, I am preparing for the next General Erection; as an Independant, of course.
Kata Kini,
Good Luck. to make a quick bucks you must able to diserect before the polling day!
The Full Result Of The Hulu Selangor Parliamentary By-election
HULU SELANGOR, April 25 (Bernama) — Following is the full result of the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election held on Sunday:
1.P. Kamalanathan (BN)……….24,997 votes
2.Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (PKR)……23,272 votes
Votes cast………………….48,935
Percentage……………………..75.87
Spoilt votes…………………..731
Majority…………………….1,725
Postal votes…………………BN: 767 PKR: 120
Incumbent: Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad (PKR) (died on March 25)
Votes polled: 2008: 23,177
Majority: 198 (defeated Datuk G. Palanivel – BN-MIC)
1. The choice of candidate was wrong and its more glaring when ONE man decide all disregarding the LOCALs sentiment.
2. Sharing of intelligence is one thing BUT with whom are we sharing is most important. (to some when advice to take an umbrella along cause its going to rain will hurt their EGO).They are more willing to get wet rather then adhering to the advice.
3. If Malaysia election is NOT fair how come Kelantan is being ruled by the Opposition for TWO decades, then Terengganu then in March 2008 Perak,Kedah,Penang and political crown jewel of UMNO that is Selangor won by the opposition.
4. The present Selangor Sate Gov. and agency was reported had done the same in HS.Dishing out goodies.Old habit die hard so I was told.
5. Surprisingly the so call misuse of MSM allegation does not work in 2008.How come the so call rural people was so well inform, OR are they were MISINFORM that the tide of political tsunami rampage the nation.
6. The HS results and it’s parliament seat maynot be a big deal, BUT for the candidate and the PARTY are going to face alot of POLITICAL bashing within their own members. The party’s BIG GUN decision will be question at ALL time.Political problem within the party will BURST out constantly.
7. When the world champ was knocked out by the new challenger then it is very NATURAL that the people expectation will be VERY VERY HIGH on the new champ.IF the new champ can’t keep up to the EXPECTATION then comes next fight people will naturally go back to THEIR old champ whom they admire for decades.
8. When the SEED a DURIAN then naturally it grows to be a DURIAN tree BUT whether it will BEAR fruit that is totally a different story. Can we name something like Election Dysfunction, its ONLY erect during Election.
9. We are NOT loosing Selangor to foreigners after all. It alway be in the family CIRCLE.
Pelangi,
It has nothing to do with being local as Zaid’s votes has increased by 100+ votes. In actual fact, most voters voted for Zainal still stick to Zaid/PKR.
700 votes have been shifted out to Selayang. And the spoilt votes have been reduced to half than the usual 1400+ for the past 5 or 6 parliamentary contest.
The main issue here is in order to fight against discrepancies. One need a Landslide victory. PKR or Pakatan Rakyat just didn’t create enough landslide to bury Barisan Nasional.
I got to agree with Raffick. Nothing is fair. I can only find a few Election Commission that’s absolutely clean. It’s in Singapore. That’s also not 100 percent perfect
looes74
I suspect majority that voted zaid did not do it because of zaid but because of PKR or PR
drrafick,
quite a long break….welcome home.
I was at always at home.. resting.. didnt go anywhere..
drrafick,
Kata Kini wrote that you are in Hulu Selangor to get support for your cause in championing teh abandon housing project. If at home all the time then IT is a quality family time. The children must have enjoyed the most.
Sorry to disappoint all.
