1. A raid that took place in Sri Ukay last night was organized by JAIS and assisted by the police. During that raid, it appears that the former Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (Dr Asri) was arrested for giving an Islamic talk to the residents there. Several things came to my mind when the raid took place. Firstly it was a well coordinated raid organizes by JAIS and the police. Despite that the Ampang OCPD claims that the police do not know anything but merely assisted in the raid. What a joke?
2. Among the well known residents of Sri Ukay are Dr Saari Sungib (PAS-Adun Hulu Kelang) and Haslinda Zerain, the former Putri No 2 and the candidate for Bukit Antarabangsa during the general election. Apparently YB Saari was at the program. Initially, I thought it was organize at his house but it turns out it was organize at another resident house. I am not sure whether Haslinda attended the program but I was told that it was organize not far from her house.
3. It was only reported in the last few days that Dr Asri receives the invitation to join PAS but he has not made up his mind. Though being denied by many people in power, the general perception is that the arrest is politically motivated. It does not matter why a former Mufti is being arrested by JAIS but the perception among the public is that it has something to do with the PAS invitation.
4. From the way, I see it; Dr Asri is not good enough. He is not educated enough to give a lecture on religious matters. He is not qualified based on Selangor Religious Authority (JAIS) standard. Therefore he was arrested. A former Mufti in one state is not good enough to be allowed to speak about religion in another state in Malaysia. This is 1-Malaysia, a country where Islamic standards are different from one state to the other.
5. JAIS actions have shown the dark side of its administration. It shows that they are being manipulated. They are showing to the world, Islam in Malaysia varies in one state to the other. What is Halal in one state, it may be Makruh or Haram in another. I have shown some examples related to this matter in my previous article. When a person is considered knowledgeable to speak about Islam in one state, he or she may not be considered the same in another state.
6. JAIS action last night has demonstrated the shallowness in the thinking of the administrators. There are many people with lesser knowledge are giving “Tazkirah” in Mosque and Surau’s in many part of Selangor. They are not being questioned. There are also plenty of speakers on the radio wave that speak in other states but are also heard by the masses in the radio and on TV in Selangor. They have not been censored. Clearly, JAIS has made has shot themselves in the toe.
7. I think JAIS actions has reinforced Dr Asri mind that he should join PAS. Again if you are a Muslim in Perlis, you may not be considered the same in Selangor. If a scholar considered not good enough, what more people in the street like many of us.
Salam ziarah.. Teruskan usaha anda.. Selamat berjaya.. Good luck!!
Malaysia is one wierd country where even a world-renown religion can be politicized and become different! I am wondering if UMNO and PAS used different AL QURANs! What is the difference between UMNO Islam and PAS Islam? From what I understand, there is only 1 AL QURAN in the world, much unlike the Bible where there is the OLD TESTAMENT and NEW TESTAMENT!
Teo
Likewise there is only 1 Bible, it comprises the 2 main divisions or sections with 66 different books in total. The Old Testament has 39 books and the New Testament has 27 books.
The 1st five books of the Old Testament can be found in all 3 of the Abrahamic religions.
When a book is written well, each time one read’s it, one finds unique lessons in the same para. A true believer sees hope because he/she has Faith.
The UMNO and PAS faithful must not be made out to be crazy, insight can come only from rational and academic study of these Holy Books. The issue we are face is that people do not read these books, but defend them without knowing and understanding their true meaning.
The Head of JAIS is a Khir Toyo (reads BN) appointee, as nearly all heads of department in Selangor are. His allegiance is to BN and he takes the opportunity to sabotage the present state government. Hassan Ali being a tool of BN may have encouraged the this act. Their collective aim as RPK reported could be part of the plan to take over Selangor by January 2009.
Please REVAMP Jais & JAKIM with immediate effect.
Dear All,
My Is-slam is better than yours. Go on do it more often. Its really fun. Thank you muslims for arranging this comic relief for the world to enjoy. With the economic slump, climate change etc, we need more such fun. Keep up the good work.
LOL
I think it is all about how deep or onion skin thick ones knowledge on relgion, personal vested interest or about dirty political manouvers.
how could the police be involved in the operation with the numbers, without knowing the issue(bullshit)
suddenly Najib,Khairy is going all out to defend(wayang kulit)
despite the hu ha..suddenly nobody had the balls to be present the following morning at even the court vicinity.
Bros..we hve a little grey matters up there,so get it to move and read between and within the line.rationalise towards the need for the masses superceed individual and personal needs.
Why don”t u people ask the co-owner of “HARDROCK CAFE”.Certainly he knows….Go figure..mmm
And while you’re at it, why don’t you also check whether beer is being served there?
Many commenters have highlighted the same comment. JAIS is a state institution, so the dalang must belong to the State.
Doc, permit me to answer the question.
How many of you know that the State Secretary in Perak is answerable to the Chief Minister. Yet he is clearly seen violating all known laws that protect the State Assembly. He even went above and beyond his duty to deny entrance to the Speaker of the State Assembly. Doesnt he report to the Speaker? Is not his loyalty to the State Assembly. Yet it is clearly seen he is being manipulated by a political party.
So to summarize, JAIS can be manipulated by 3rd parties. The issue is what is their agenda?
What a bloody shame? Even people of same religion fight each other over religion. Religion had been the cause of major human sufferings. It still remain the cause of major human sufferings. Ban all religions.
Dr.,
Amat menyedih dan memalukan Islam!
So, now we know, as long as you are not certified (ditauliahkan) to preach Islam by JAIS, you cannot talk about Islam. If you go to mosques or surau in Selangor, you should not talk about Islam, but can can talk about artists, pubs, clubs, socialism, roumouring, gossipping etc. If you found be talking about Islam, you’ll be arrested eventhough you have PhD in Islamic Studies or you are graduated from Al-Azhar or any of ’sekolah pondok’ in Malaysia.
Is Islam that difficult or Malay Muslim make it soooo difficult? What are the criterion to be a certified preacher of Islam (Jais & Mais rule)? I am a muslim but I have Degree in Business Studies, I am not so pious, sometimes I failed to observe 5 prayers a day but I fast in Ramadan, I don’t take alcohol. If I can get certified by Jais (eventhough I use backdoor), will I be a better Islamic preacher? JAIS, how can I apply for certification? I am interested.
Dr Rafick,
Follow the trail of authority…those JAIS enforcement officers are usually only familiar with raiding carparks and low cost flats..looking for khalwat and drinking offences in 3rd rate pubs, small fry stuff. Nabbing a MUFTI is way out of their league…someone else high up must have pushed hard for it.
I am sure you will find a few trojan horses along the way. This could be a blessing in disguise, to help PKR/PAS with it’s spring cleaning excercise.
On a second note, another possible theory is that this episode as unfortunate as it may be is only a “distraction” , and a good one at that, perhaps something set up and timed just to distract the RAKYAT or PKR from other things like the new MACC arrests…or something else more critical.
This is not uncommon in Malaysian Politics. Look back at the timing of the announcement of the arrest Mas Selamat, and the crying episode by Rafidah during the UMNO assembly when Mahathir threathened to step down., timings of petrol price rise announcements., the current MCA leadership crises…its just to distract the chinese from the PKFZ scandal…etc etc.. All just sendiwara to distract the Rakyat from other more important issues or investigations which were getting “too hot” for comfort.
Once the people have been distracted….the sideline announcement of NFA comes up somewhere 6 months down the road, naturally timed with a rise in petrol prices or something similar which will distract the man in the street.
BN has been playing the game for half a century…PKR needs to pull up their socks.
Clearly JAIS is being manipulated and like Teoh Beng Hok’ torture-Murder they never knew where it would end. Now we all know that State institutions no mater what the constitution says is controlled and effectively powered by Federal/Cabinet “politicians” and the fact that the PDRM had a overwhelming dragnet in the area suggest the evil ever increasing autonomy of MUSA HASSAN, the event of Malaysia’s darkest nightmare.
Pelangisenja, although JAIS is a state body but it conducted a joint raid with the police, a federal body and normally, all federal policies or instructions take precedent. So in this case, our home affairs or mata mata honchos cannot deny that they did not know. So what else is new in our country, eh?
Billy,
After reading your comment I went to Law of malaysia website (Act 344).
It seem that among the duties of police officers is to give
assistance in carrying out ANY law relating to
revenue, excise, sanitation, quarintine, immigration, registration, preserving order in ports, habours, airports, enforcing maritime and port regulations, executing
summonses, subpoenas, warrants, commitments and other process lawfully issued by any COMPETENT authority and even seizing stray annimals and put them in public pound.
So,it is stated in the law that they must gives ASSISTANCE to any COMPETENT authority in carrying out ANY Laws.
So, i think they merely assisted in this capacity and the actual reason and act of arresst only known to JAIS I suppose.
The separation of power regarding Islamic Religion in the matter of rules and regulation is different in each state as well as the federal ONLY the respective state religious body has the power to impose and act on in state laws.
I stand to be corrected.
…so what is the implication? You need to be an outright politician or politically acquainted than only you’re permitted to speak of religous issues . Is that it?
Dr Asri called PR=Pakatan Rasuah , its obvious PR head are behind the scene.Below are his 7 question to PAS
http://drmaza.com/home/?p=762
KUSH,
Careful what you write!
You have wrongly quoted Dr Asri by saying that Dr Asri said “Pakatan Rasuah”. This is fitnah!. Dr Asri never said that.
Did you go into his website? Did you? I know that you just copied from someone else’s website.
Now, if you’re a Muslim, you should know apa balasan orang yang memfitnah orang lain.
That “Pakatan Rasuah” term was used by another website quoting Dr Asri’s questions.
I suggest you go ask for forgiveness from Dr Asri.
Wassalam
Even as a non-Muslim, I find the incident is embarassing to the country as a whole. I hope things get cleared up soon. We are already having backlash from the Kartika case and then the free honeymoon in Trengganu and now body odour too… this is getting really embarassing.
hassan ali instructed the jais ..simple he doesnt want another threat to his position this is common knowldege as he be removed dowm grade soon .this is a message to pas national leader..he call the shot in selangor ..a show of strength …simple as that
What’s saddening is that even greater evil such as imbibing the haram (alcoholic beverages and bribery alike) and extra-marital relationship among Muslims are overlooked…instead, they aimed for one with an established reputation as one who is knowledgeable in Islam…
…What has the world come to!?
Doc,
Welcome back.
I really have compassion for Muslim in this country. The leaders seem to be a confusing lots. Power seem to be more important than really following the way of ALLAH. The way the leaders behave, how can they expect people to experience ALLAH whom they want the followers and Malaysian at large to acknowledge. I forgot, non-muslim are not allowed to acknowledge ALLAH!!!!!!!!
Correction:
–across the Sungai Bernam WAS Hari Raya–
Sometimes in the early 1980’s, Perak and Selangor have different Hari Raya. Walked across the Sungai Bernam is Hari Raya with feasts all over while it was fasting time on the other side.
jais dibawah sultan, pegawai kerajaan, agen2 yang dipengaruhi umno, period.
malang sungguh nasib melayu islam semuanya nak disuapkan dari subsidi hinggalah pegangan agama ditentukan oleh pihak berwajib
Doc,
You say the arrest it is politically motivated. Who do you suspect instigated it , BN or PR ? Jais is a state body as NR said, so it must be PR then but Dr Asri is contemplating of joining PAS ? Pening !
If it is truly political, then whatever reasons for the arrest is only to justify the charade but the result is that Islam in Malaysia get a bad name .
i wonder!
If it is not PR nor BN, then are you saying the Head of the Religious STATE?
drrafick,
JAIS is a state body and under an exco which is incharge of Islamic affairs.
What do the exco has to say about this?
