1. The Malaysian Insider yesterday reported that The Umno special assembly had passed the constitutional amendments which will change the way the party conducts its party elections. Like any other association, the amendments are subjected to the approval of the Registrar of Society. I believe, the ROS will act and approve the amendments without change and expeditiously.
2. In a bold move, I would say the current UMNO leadership is different from their predecessors. In the long history of UMNO and especially when Mahathir was the President, the constitution was change to ensure that those in power can consolidate its position further with very little threat. This time around, Najib , his deputy and the MT has decided that it is best that for the long term best interest of UMNO and the nation, power of electing key leaders should be decentralize and be given to more members.
3. At the same time to ensure that only those with administrative and the right political skill can go up, they have set a minimum number of years a person can contest. Under the amendments, an aspiring candidate for any supreme council post must have served in the division committee for at least one term. Members who want to contest a division post must be a party member for at least three years.
4. My own assessment is that Najib and his people have effectively put the party above themselves. It will eliminate election corruption. It will force individuals to contest on his own accord and strength. He can no longer contest on the basis of being a team member of the president of anyone else. In the long run this is good for UMNO and also for Malaysia.
5. In his speech, Najib mentioned the need for UMNO to take care of the interest of the Malays and non Malays to ensure that the nation prospers. This is what Dato Onn Jaffar wanted to do a long time ago which led to his expulsion. The only difference is that Najib has not indicated on how UMNO will ensure the rights and the interest of the non Malays will be protected under his plan.
6. In my previous writing, I had mentioned several times that for the good of the country, politicians need to move from its race based politics into a 2 party system. It might have taken the Americans more than 150 years but I believe there is a greater need to expedite the formation of 2 party systems in this country.
7. In my humble of opinion, UMNO must be the leader on the BN side. It must open its doors to all Malaysian. It must end this race base politics which was introduce by the British. Only then, the interest of all Malaysian can be taken care off. If this is not done, I sincerely believe no matter whatever internal constitutional change that is being done, it would only give a short life line to UMNO under the current circumstances. I suggest UMNO thinkers to think really hard.

Doc,
A quotation from 16th US president, Abraham Lincoln.
“You can fool some of the people all of the time , and all the people some of the time, but you can not fool all the people all the time.”
UMNO constitutional amendments is just half-measures only.To be truly democratic and prevent election corruption more needs to be done.
Why not allow all ordinary members the chance to elect office-bearers for all posts including Pemuda and Wanita.UMNO is super rich ,what’s the problems conducting election for 3 million plus members?
What about Kuli’s suggestions that party office-bearers not hold positions in federal or state administration? They just can not give up the idea of having a finger in all the pies? Kuli’s idea was for party people to concentrate on party matters and ministers, Aduns and MPs to concentrate on working for the Rakyat
What about term limitation for all posts? Most of them want to stay on forever or until they get a painful kick in the butt when rejected by members. If you declare you hold a post to serve the people then this is altruism. You must state your objectives or targets and most importantly a timeframe be mentioned, preferably less than 2 terms (8-10 years). Use SMART for target setting, S=specific “I want to make myself and 3 generations super-duper rich”,M=measurable e.g KPI, A=achieveable,R=relevant, definately not a F1 owning country,T=timeframe, not stay until I die,”my work is not completed, the country still needs me,blah, blah…”.
If UMNO can practice blatant corruption at the recent Bagan Pinang by-election, what the use of cleaning the party of “money-politics”? . It seems it’s ok to buy the rakyat but not ok to buy your own party members.RIDICULOUS,KARUT.
Agreed with “Malaysian Cynic” ,now only the big boys can play the UMNO game. UMNO is doing cosmetic surgery, what it need is major brain transplant.
Cheers.

Komen saya terkeluar tajuk tapi inilah luahan rasa…
Bas disediakan….tapi pelajar dihantar pulang semula ke sekolah……..dengarnya 1000 bas disediakan……….pukul berapa pelajar nak sampai rumah………jangan lupa esok sekolah………cikgu letih pelajar lewat bangun……….
sbar,
Apa yang saya baca dari article kamu is logic and factual.
Senang sahaja. Kalau mereka yang menganjur tidak boleh fikir kemushkilan,,,, yang dibangkit oleh kamu,,,,,, pakai minda sendiri,,,,,jangan terlibatkan diri.
Tak menglibatkan diri bukan maksudnya boykot,,,cuma hakikat.
Two party system…that is the only way indeed to go.
UMNO cannot survive another term without MIC/MCA and Gerakan winning the seats, that fact UMNO knows!
The Malays are sick and tired of the games UMNO plays, only very sick and old dogs will sink and swim with UMNO.
The cronies will shout and claim they will die with UMNO..that is a for show only, the first sign UMNO sinks they will run helter skelter, park their monies well in advance overseas!
Never a secret never a joke!
The new generations of this country can see black and white, the older generations had no choice they had to watch Black and White TV only!
We have Astro 24/7 !
We have broadband internet !
So, if UMNO thinks they still want to close their dooors it would mean DEATH..matter of time.
MCA/MIC and Gerakan cannot win anymore support!
It is a fact they very well know themselves!
PR v BN —– !
PR cannot work as a team still, too many cooks spoiling the soup…and worst still they have turncoats amongst them….running dogs..pariah dogs…traitors in blue!
UMNO WILL BE HISTORY SOONER THEN EXPECTED!
UMNO – MUST ALLOW ITS MEMBERS TO BE NON MALAYS IF THE WANT TO REMAIN RELEVANT.
UMNO MUST ALLOW BRAINS TO RULE OVER BRAWN!
THEY NEED GOOD BRAINS – NOT HALF PAST SIX
LOOK AT THE MENTERI’s TALKING !
SO SADDENING AND PATHETIC INDEED.
A FORM FIVE STUDENT CAN SPEAK BETTER AND DEBATE BETTER IN PARLIAMENT…
Ak
Bravo, a well written piece.
I do disagree that we will be seeing a 2-party system in the near future. UMNO fully understood the impact of the 2-party system; and knowing that it will work against them, they will continue to apply the ‘divide-and-rule’ strategy. Hence, they will continue to instigate or even finance an ‘independent’ to a three-corner fight. However, I do agree that a strong and effective opposition is needed for check and balance.
We will continue to be race-based definitely. For a start, it’s gonna be real tough to get the chinamen to get together; Gerakan and MCA. Though the idea of merging had mooted some time ago, it had not realized. It would be really tough to manage a multi-culture party. Could you imagine that the leader (of BN) said that government contracts would be given only to Bumiputra? How would the other 35% response? In this logic, race-based we will continue, until their kingdom cometh, or until all Malaysian born after the Merdeka is accepted as a Bumiputra.
The medium of education is just a minor issue (to me, at least) as it is just a form of communication. By hard-headedly insisting that teaching of Bahasa throughout, will only make the Malays less competitive; in the country as well as internationally. A non-Malay can easily speaks 3 languages; and our TDM is fully aware of it. The problem is already eminent with our malay graduates that could not speak English; where corporate prefers those who can converse in English. Those elite Malays who graduated overseas have many times more advantages than those graduated locally (and who hardly speak English). I have always advocated to my nieces and nephews to study English well, as well as picking up Chinese when they can. Ask a chinaman and they will tell you that “a Malay who can speak Chinese will never starve.” A relative in KTrengganu get endless business support from the Chinese because he spoke Chinese (Mandarin) fluently. So, in this view, I do disagree again.
Malaysians should be taught various local ethnic languages; mandarin and tamil. This will allow all to understand our diverse cultural background and well as the ability to interact with one another. Hence, achieving our so called 1-Malaysia (though I prefer to call “1Bangsa 1 Rakyat”) concept. As for English, I would not want to argue over why English should have equal teaching (weightage). Since the rural students could not catch up, why deprive those in the urban? Not unless, there is a HIDDEN AGENDA.
Support are not only given based on meritocracy but especially to the poor, unfortunate as well as those oppressed; irrespective of religion and race. What would it make me if I rip off the system of RM10 million and channel back RM4 million to my constituency, would it make me a very generous man? As in any good manager would know that any flaws in the system can be remedied with good policies (with enforcement and monitoring, of course). So, with all our Akta(s), those who had committed offense or breached the act, should be taken to task or charged.
I trust that many would felt that, “if my boss would buy me breakfast every now and then, gave me a bonus annually and other perks, I would probably care less if he rip off the company”. It’s only human to be greedy and acquisitive.
As much as Indians are gullible, so are the Malays. Chinese are very objective in their voting; they want peace and stability – especially in rural areas. The city dwellers are more likely to vote opposition for check and balance; not necessary support. Poor chinese areas tend to support the opposition as a sign of protest; Penang is a good example. Remember when Mr. Clean came in, BN swept clean; including Penang where there has been strong opposition.
For BN to redeem itself, it must eradicate corruption totally, help all poor and unfortunate; irrespective of race. Then, whether race-based or otherwise, it will return to its glory again. Sadly, many with personal agenda will spoit this.
Kata Kini,
Language is indeed important as means of communication and when you have a common language that is understood by all Malaysians irrespective of race, acceptably used everyday by all will help bridge the existing polarity and help better interaction. I believe that everyone will adapt to whatever language is used when this is the main medium of communication for commerce and trade.
I find that anyone who is good in language be it BM, English, Mandarin or Tamil tends to succeed in life. Yes, our education policy must emphasise the teaching of all languages and this Malaysia has failed. Generally, the level of written English by young Malaysians of all races is atrocious. You do not use science and mathematics to teach English, that I disagree with TDM.
The Chinese are street smart and they survive everywhere in the world. It is the Malays and Indians that are gullible, still complacent with what little they have and hoping for handouts rather than strive to improve their social status. It is high time that meritrocracy takes precedence , race based or not, to erase this subsidy mentality.
We do know what the expression “easy come easy go” really mean, don’t we?
It’s a blight inflicting UMNO since time in memorial, and of which its minions may not even be aware of. It’s an euphemism to represent the less palatable word: the curse.
When translated to its correct political terminology, it’s none other than the question of legitimacy. Its legitimacy was questionable when it first came into being, its legitimacy is still being questioned now re: Perak as an example. And of course how much more the other questionable instances of legitimacy in the in-betweens of their being could there be only if we care to dig up.
You see drrafick, my father and scores of his INSAF members were incarcerated during the British rule for bringing up the question of independence. Not many minions of UMNO know about this since independence was “given” to them on a silver platter.
So, that’s how the expression “easy come easy go” came about.
It is superfluous for me to comment on your article now as I’m sure you’re already getting my drift.
rastaman,
Sorry to interject. We sure know what “easy come easy go” but it’s different to them. It’s “easy come not easy to let go” this time. That’s why we are seeing the creation of “Medusa” in every corner of the state functions. It’s not easy for mortals like us to face the “Medusa” for we will be incarcerated too. But, with many men and women on our side, only can we succeed.
Doc,
We are indeed seeing a 2- party system, BN and PR, in the bud stage and voters will decide if this system will come to fruition in PRU13. A strong and effective opposition is needed for check and balance simply because power corrupts if one is too powerful.
But it will still be race based politics because integration and assimilation among the various races as 1 Malaysia or Malaysian Malaysian will not succeed so long as Malaysia practise a national education system not accepted by majority of the Chinese and Indians preferring to send their children to vernacular schools. In this respect , the Malays, Chinese and Indians are racist. To adopt English as the medium of education is not plausible as it is constitutional that Malay is the national language and any change will not be accepted by Malays being the dominant race. My take is that the government must push for greater usage of BM not only for official government affairs but for dealings in the private sectors, and in commerce and trade in Malaysia. All races will adapt if it is not left to choice.
The issues of UMNO arrogance, corruption, abuse of powers , non- transperancy, independence of the judiciary, etc brought up by PR as their election manifesto , I see as problems existing in a capitalist government and this will stay whoever the government is unless and until an agenda on social responsibility is adopted. Disparity between the haves and have nots will continue to persist. What is important is that fair opportunity are given to all and the results must be meritocracy based. The poor but hardworking must be rewarded and not the rich and lazy rakyat.
UMNO must change or be changed. The UMNO constitutional amendments is the beginning in the eradication of corruption, abuse of position and arrogance of the leaders within the party, which NR must see to it that a thorough housekeeping is properly done. NR knows that to move forward and for a chance to succeed , he cannot go on witch-huntings as he himself his perceived to carry tons of bagges. Picking Isa for BP is brilliant as this was a test on voters acceptance for a tainted leader and now he is confident that amnesty; to bury the hatchet, forgive and forget is not only possible but acceptable.
My analysis of Malaysian voters from the recent BP by-election result is that non-Malays voted for Isa abandoning the fight for justice, blah, blah, blah. The postal votes was a foregone conclusion that BN will win. The Chinese voted for a sure winner and the Indians were as usual gullible and easily bought.
UMNO must surely realise by now that all the ills mentioned above in the heart of the Malays are issues related to PHD -perasaan hasad dengki of Malays towards UMNO for the disparity in wealth allocations to UMNO members and their cronies. Address these issues will bring back the Malay votes. UMNO address these issues and PAS fight on being a better muslim is nullified. UMNO address these issues and PKR will loose grounds and will not be a force to reckon with in future.
During our recent Raya balik kampong, we happened to get to know a police officer by chance while having our meal. Though we have never met, we end up having a good chat about the political scenario in the state as well as in the country.
During our discourse, he had mentioned about the disintegration of the society (amongst the ethnic groups in Malaysia); about the morale of the police force as well as their ‘independence’ authority power; the ‘power’ of the politicians; and also the recent rise of new ‘people power’ such as Hindraf and other pressure groups.
In his conclusion, it is sad to say is that his confidence of the police force in addressing corruption is diminishing. Considering his position and the fact that he has few more years to go before retirement, he can only watch. He mentioned like “It’s like swimming against the tide, it a matter of time before you get yourself drown”.
His advice was, if you want to know how politics and corruption works, just watch ASTRO; where all the plots can be found in the Indian program channels. Hmmmm….
Government officials do not understand who they are serving for when signing “saya yang menurut perintah”. Independence of the civil service has been eroded by TDM and the culture of subservient to politicians started by TDM is still strong until today. NR shoud make a paradigm change , bringing back the glory days of the civil service experienced during his fathers time. The culture of “I rub your back and you mine” must stop.
Yesterday during a meeting, an ex-policeman who is now a ‘policy-maker’, mentioned that “those days, when one has a problem or even a baby, they will all running to the police. Today, all these have changed”. Wonder what he really meant!!!
kata kini,
In those days, the police station acts on behalf of our national registration department or close to the kind. So if a child is born, we go to police station to get the birth certificate. So, do with death. Now, we have to go directly to the national registration department both on birth and death.
The police in those days lives among the community that they served. They goes to the same mosque, temples, and churches in the vicinity. Now, they have everything on within their compound.
In those days, they do the policing to maintain law and order and the directive is at such. Now a days, their function has change. While keeping law and order, they also work as intelligence to the political masters. This is taxing on them. They also have to protect proxies of political masters that are in business. That’s what we are seeing, a gambling dent just around the police beat or station operating freely. In doing so, the police are also caught up in the game too. Unless, the are pressure from the community, special force are sent from HQ to clear the dent.
All in all, it start small with the politicians and have become cancerous on it’s own. So, it’s tough to the men that’s honest. A word will be put to these honest man that you are either with us or go some place else. The question is where’s the better place when those has spread thoughout the nation. On top of that, why risk yourself or family members of the threat as they wouldn’t know who’s the enemy within.
I wonder at times if people know why a police report first. We are so disillussioned by the police report, we forget to read, what FIR stands for, which is the abreviation of police forms that we fill up.
FIR = FIRST INFORMATION REPORT.
Its basically says to inform.
Dr Amrit,
I stand to be corrected but I recalled this culture of Police or ACA/MACC report happens in early 90’s.
It’s used intimidate the opposition leaders and to strengthen the position the then “Supreme” leader of that time.
These agencies will act swiftly by knocking on doors of oppositions in the middle of the night if it’s reported by BN/UMNO members.
It’s insufficient evidence or no “prima facie” followed by NFA if reported by opposition party members. It’s even worst, at times, the agencies will charged the person of making the reports.
Sadly, I have no statistics on this to prove the point but just recollection through reading in the MSM.
nxforget,,
Though,,, you carry the name nxforget,,,, you never forget even till early 90s,ha,,,hahaaa. Ok!!!!!
ABUSE is a system,, USE is also a system. Bottomline,,,, how do you apply them.
In the eyes of wisemen,,, the USE system would be effcetively used,,, with human rights values accounted for.
In the eyes of Draconian Leaders,,,,,Rule By Law would by applied, to meet its means of justifying management, of a country,, so the ABUSE system is applied.
HAPPY DEEPAVALI to all who are celebrating this auspicious day.
Kata Kini.
Hey, Dr.
Just wondering.. How come no resolutions passed in this particular AGM ?
(Can’t seem to find or read anywhere in the MSMs – news blackout ?)
Secondly, a point of interest or curious.
Past few days -EGM,AGM (MCA,UMNO) were held during working hours / days. Many Ministers (included invited BN Ministers)were in attendance.
Are they on official leave whilst attending such functions during working hours?
The rakyat paid them to do work during working days, and not to “ponteng” by attending such private functions.
Are they in breach of any Government standing orders or regulations?
An answer will be most enlightening… TQ.
Lastly, A very Happy Deepavali to all our comrades.
Enjoy, but take care.
Have a good weekend everyone !
dont let ur hope goes too high…this is a con effort to divert prob they have by just saying, “yes, we’ve changed. Support us”.
What’s important to them, dynasty prevail and wealth growing….
Dr. Rafick,
What I append below…., is a true story of my Late Fathers mentality…., he believed that in…., I quote in tamil,
” Koliyah meycaj kudeh, Kumenilah meykamun. ”
Literary meaning…., even if you want to rear hens…, make sure it is with the government.
I still can recollect….a incident….., way back in 1978…., if I’m not mistaken ( stand to be corrected ) it was election time and dad was hurling my elder brother, sister and mother into his Morris Minor, to head towards SMKSB for voting…., all the time reminding them that they should vote for ” Terasu ” meaning…dacing. BN was so relevant to them that they would even use force to get others to vote for it.
Such…..was the mentality of my father……, and I believe the community at large……, so inorder for UMNO/BN do be relevant…in todays term they have to go back to basics and make themselves relevant. If not they are just wasting their time.
The time when we saw all as one…., colours didn’t matter.., seasons…all year around ( tops, catching, marbles, Kite flying, spiders,..rounders, police & theif ext.ext.) Why did the guys entrusted with the well beign of the country….destroy all these…., all in the name of race and religion. What did they gain…….?
Looking back……, makes me sick…., this nation of ours seems headed for DOOM! I sincerely hope NOT!
balasi,
What your dad said and does was long time ago. It’s understandable because at that time things are a lot better compared to today. People of different races and religion can work together as one.
Now, allow me share of my father’s view on UMNO per say. A month before the last general election, we went back to our hometown, just for a regular visit. In one of the session of family chatting with brothers and sisters including the in-laws, we touch about the coming general election and supporting the opposition.
Hulala !!! … we got a piece of mind from our father. Among the things he said that it was Tunku and UMNO that get us independence, where was PAS, DAP or even PKR. Second pointer, it’s UMNO that provide us with education, otherwise we will be just like him tending the padi fields under the hot sun and thunderstorm. Third pointer, we won’t even have a taste to sit in a car what more to own one. It’s UMNO that manage the economy well. Forth pointer, it’s UMNO that provide free medical care that cure to my malaria when I was eight years old. Sixth pointer, the country is peaceful, we can go out anytime as compared during world war and curfews, doesn’t UMNO has done enough for us to be thankful.
Of course there a lot more. Mind you, this come from a 90 year old man and just a person who mind your own business as far politics is concern. He just goes to work and help in community services but never on a political banner. That actually shuts our mouth as we knew that further argument will paramount to disaster in family relationship.
The area that my father lives are with 80 per cent relative to the BN/UMNO candidate to contest in the GE. Guess what …. the stream that my father went for voting turns out to only have 3 votes for BN. Even the relatives of the candidate doesn’t support him.
Perhaps, what my dad thinking is the same as you dad.
What the moral here … the elderly generation are with UMNO/BN during rain or shine, ie: dulu, kini, dan selamanya and NOT kata kini …. just jokes a bit here
We have to give some credit and respects to the earlier leaders of BN/UMNO too. The earlier leaders of UMNO/BN gave the community the hope to progress that resulted for the increase size of middle class society.
But, the new breed of UMNO/BN leaders are no longer the same as our father perceived. They are for themselves and THEMSELVES. That is, self-interest. That why we are seeing some turn coats or still having the mindset of BN in members of PR coalition.
This is where, I believe, a strong two party system will balance itself for the benefits of the community and the nation.
nxforget,
I will buy that…., and will cheers to that….., there is more towards what our old folks stood and believed in.!
Someone has reincarnated
. A leopard can’t change its spots.
My father on the other hand was a pragmatist. He voted mca for the state sit but always dap for federal government. Once as a young man I asked him why. He said he knew the father of the local guy from mca and he had done a lot for the community. He was not blind to the wheeling and dealing that had gone on such as having special allotment of jungle, special licenses etc but at least the person is willing to pass some material benefit around.
My father also said that the corrupt mindset is deeply ingrained in politicians and to balance out the excesses he voted for dap for federal seats.
nxforget seem to be singing the praises of umno/bn as if these folks of yesteryear were angels. Little did he realised that we had actually inherited a working and fully functional system from the british. All these changed after May 13 and it took less than a generation to destroy all that the british had built – both the hardware and the software for a functional and thriving society.
With the riches of the country all the problems of poverty and deprivation shouldn’t have happened. The fact that it had happened the blame must squarely be placed on umno.
Morning Dew,
I came from from a small village where folks barely had enough putting food on the table, what more for education of the children. It is here that the UNMO representatives, both MP and ADUN, that encourages and assist in many ways for the folks to sent the children to an English instead of vernacular school so that we have better futures. By going to English school, we have to travel about 4 miles each way instead of walking distance.
Paying RM9 per term for school fees and bus fares is a lot of money to those village folks including my father. From time to time, the ADUN and MP drop by to see our progress and provide some assistance. The ADUN that I knew sold few pieces of land that he inherited from his parents to help those folks. May be, that ADUN were dumb enough to do that while his peers are raking the benefits form the nation at the time.
PAS or it’s kind at the time resist all this and instilling fear that we’ll become infidels. They would rather see us going to the SAR.
All these happen in 50’s and 60’s where my elders and I are school going.
Now, allow me to reveal that some chinamen that assist my father in those days. When two of my elder sisters have to study in school far away from home and enters university, the apek of sundry shop in my village gave loan without interest. That is pay as you will. Being a farmer with a small piece of land, it took my father many years to clear the loan. Along the way, the apek would advise us to study hard though none of his six children make it further that form 3, ie the Lower Certificate Examination. Of course, there are a lot more in between but I’ll stop at this.
You are much fortunate than I am as your dad is political savvy. He gave you the political view at the early age. I, on the other hand, is just self realization.
So, tell me if I’m wrong to give credit where it’s due ?
On the next point, I agree that May 13 changes the course of our history. The good public administration and civility are being destroyed systematically until the mess we live in today. But, how does blaming UMNO squarely will elevate us out of the mess. This is where you and I have to work hard without animosities to make thing better.

Those happens in the 50’s and 60’s where my elders and I are school going.
You are fortunate than I am for your dad were self sufficient and political savvy. You were given the early exposure while I am self-realization in the later years of the nation political scenario.
So, for the good deeds of those people, tell me if I’m wrong to give credit where it’s due.
On your next point, I agree with you that may 13 change the course of the nation history. The civil service are being systematically destroyed into the mess we are in today. But, how does blaming UMNO squarely going squarely going to elevate us out of the mess. It is you and I that have to work together without animosities to rebuild the system that was destroyed.
Let me begin with a short accounting of events in another forum – a homoeopathic forum. There was a person that went by the name of Dr Mas. After a few posts many realised that while the name was Dr Mas but there were actually a few people posting using the same handle. When this multi-headed Dr Mas found out he finally admitted it. This Dr Mas did the same thing in the randi forum and within a short time he was again found out – eventhough the ip was coming from the same place. His account at randi was suspended.
Such medusa-like quality could well characterised umno and their attack dogs – no matter how sweetly they purred. The saccharine poison will cause irreparable cancer.
After you mentioned the history of PAS I was curious and went in to read pas’ history(www.parti-pas.org) and the medusa-like quality, it would seemed, had been present even in the early 60’s.
I am not saying that there were no good umno members but more often than not many would have helped themselves and their family members before any goodies get trickled down(as someone said at molass lethargic rate) to the people who needed it the most. There had been so many of such self-serving politicians, particularly those from the BN stable, that it is a self-evident truth. Even the “good mca” chap upon retirement seem to be so well-endowed with land and properties and contracts that one has to wonder and many do wonder aloud.
Some of these cyber-dogs seem to believe that they could spray perfume onto night soil and the rakyat would proclaim that its wonderful benefitial fragrance.
You see I am not nice
. I call a spade a spade and shit, shit.
I forgot to mention that I came from a really poor family. My father had to eke out a living to support 9 children.
Thank you for sharing some of your background and experiences on cyber moles and impostors that you’ve encountered.
Yes, we may have our differences but, at times, we too have to view and do things objectively and intelligently without being clouded with extreme hatred. Otherwise, we’ll be easily wedge further apart by the those we despised.
So, let’s put this behind and move on for, at least, we’ve known each other stand.
Dr. Rafick,
Well said and well articulated article…, syabas.!
But reading the MSM…., today has created more doubts then answers….., Say PM….some Malays still need the NEP…., and after 4 decades…., the equity of Malays…, is at 19.2 %…., who is our PM trying to kid…., who provides him with these facts.
Is it not a shame to admit…that past and present leaders wasted so much energy…, but yet failed to address the core problem.., regarding leakages. You can have it for a another hundred years…, who cares…, and I doubt…, you guys in the government do., its basically your survival.
Then again, how do do quantify…Malays…, every other day you see more DJ Daves, Hamidis…Shukurs…, joining the ranks of calling themself Bumis….., sampai kiamat pun cannot solve this problem.
PM…., my suggestion..,
Quantify the Malays first. and then open up your books for all of us to scrutinize…., let independant consultants come out with the figures of what the Malays own in equity…, not what is provided by the government…., you know…., we can be lead by the tail.
Correction….led by the tail.
nxforget,
Why did you not comment on this……, too sensitive or what..? Love to hear what you and the rest have to say…!
balasi,
Let see some of the pointers here.
Some malays need the NEP … of course, I have to agree since I’m a malay so that I got the benefits too, RM5 mil into my bank account number XXXXX perhaps
Let get to serious part, help should be given to the disadvantage regardless of criteria, that is race, religion, gender, and just name it. It’s because, if no assistance is provided, it will come to haunt us.
Lets take the Indians in this country for an example, they are comprise 8% of the population but constitutes to 40% of the crime rates. That’s because they were left behind in education, proper shelter and employment opportunities. Even the restaurants operated by Indians don’t want to employ them but would rather bring migrants from India … I took this example as the figures are publish in the MSN.
Same thing with the Malays, me as an example. If there’s no assistance provided, I won’t be sitting here composting this comments. I would only know how to make calls and not using SMS.
What I’m against is the abuse. How could a family with all the wealth got a scholarship to study in the field of own choice. The mother can go and stay for one month in UK with the sons and daughters during each examiniation time. But, there are others who are in need but could get into the college, not even of the last choice though the person qualifies, pretty sad situation.
In a nutshell, assistance MUST be provided to bring ANY family out of the vicious cycle.
On the 19.2% equity, this is a bit tricky as I couldn’t comprehend that either. Perhaps, they are just reporting what’s above board. The wealth accumulated in a dubious were not in any way reported. If that’s the case, it cut across the board of all races where we need a better system for taxation and forensic accounting.
I came across many but I’ll share one with you. A person have a steady job paying about RM1,500 a month. It’s difficult to make the ends meets. So, he started business in pasar malam that give him and average of RM2,000 net a month. Now, his total income is RM3,500 which entitle him to pay tax. But does he file for tax return ? I doubt so. People say it’s hard work as he has to do two jobs in a day. But what difference is he from a factory supervisor who only hold one job but doing overtime to get the same amount and pay tax.
There you go, we need the political will to get the correct numbers. Otherwise, you and I will be arguing till the sheep come home if the figure is correct.
On the leakage, this is common knowledge. It does not only benefit the malays but also the people behind it. A good example is in construction industry. The government award the project to a bumiputra company, the bumiputra acts as project managers and sub-contract the work to the non-malays, everyone is happy laughing to the bank. In this case, all the businessmen are partners in crime. It’s either we revert back to the old system where PWD or JKR become the project managers or we need to devise a better system. An open tender doesn’t guarantee leakage would be less.
I think this is among the reason that our businessmen are only good within the country, be it bumiputra or non-bumiputra. We have not exploited on know-how but just on know-who. That is why we could not even build the Penang bridge on our own for a fact that matter.
In summary, you have a valid points and concern. Unfortunately, it not about race in totality. We need to takle issue by issue. At this juncture, I doubt any political party have the will to do as it’s going to be suicide. It’s in the education but that will take time.
My humble apology if I disappoint you this time.
This is nothing but hogwash and a puerile attempt at rationalisation and justification of all that is wrong with a corrupt system.
It is amazing how 8% of the population contributed to 40% of all the crime in the nation and the reason was because they were neglected and therefore if help were to be given to them such a crime-rate would not have happened. And to argue that you now know how to use sms was because of the help rendered to the malay community is at best silly.
The 19.2% equity is definitely tricky and all the tricks came from umno. If you say otherwise they will exert pressure on you to either resign or change your properly done research and accounting. Who in their right mind would use par value to estimate equity value ? Only in umno. Over 52 billion were given to bumiputra in stock equity but now only 2 billion remain unsold. That’s a lot of indians or poor malays you could help. Almost all these 52 billions went to the well-connected umno members and Dr.M argued that it is alright.
On leakage you said that the non-malays were partner in crime but that is a bit like saying that the rape victim is responsible for your rape of the nation. If a malay contractor do not have the capacity either financially or technically then they have no business bidding for such a job. How many RM2 company had been awarded such contracts ? When the government encourages such arrangement they created an unnecessary layer of cost to the rakyat and an unhealthy dependency. The non-bumi contractors went into a job because they could do the job. The bumi contractor went into it because they could siphon off money from the rakyat.
Now where has pelangisenja gone to ?
Morning Dew
He (pelangisenja) had changed to become ’someone else’. Thinking what I am thinkng?
nxforget,
Thank you for your reply…., don’t worry…, I was not disappinted. I would like to take my time to reply you on all that you have commentted.
i. Point one ….., which malays benefitted?
UMNOPUTRAS.
ii. Point two…., If the Government wants to get serious, then 30 % of the equity should be accordded to the disadvantage regardless of race & religion.
iii. Point three…., Indian ..8% of population but carry a baggage of 40% crime rate…..!!!!, Who started all this?
They were living happily ever after in the estates untill guys like TMM and TSMMT converted estates surrounding KL for developement…., sending them all into KL and other area’s not even prepared to care for themselves…, more so their families… If this is not UMNO/ BN faults….who fault is this?
For Urban migration from the rurals areas…they should have been prepared…., and not letting them to fend for themself….., this is the core reason..for all the crimes committed in the name of survival.
Then getting a taste of easy..money…, it becomes a trade,….. then it takes up a much higher level of Organize crime….., why blame them ? It’s these guys who came up with these ideas to develope all these land have no guilt of responsibiliteis. What your take nx?
iv. point four…, nobody…here want’s to argue about what the malays deserve…, neither do we want it to stop….., it’s all about how it should be carried out.
v. point five…, talking about ABUSE….., just imagine what all these wastages could have gone too.
a. Helping eradicate some sort of poverty
b. Poor families, seeking medical help for their children.
c. Helping the disable…!
vi. Since you could not comprehend the 19.2% ,… I’ll leave it at that.
vii. The examples that that you have given does not hold any water….., we are talkiing about equity..of the economic pie on the whole.
You also did not address the growing numbers of converts who claim to be more malays then malays so that they can jump onto the band wagon…, for it’s privileges.
viii. On Alibaba….., ask the so call leaders…to explain.,
Leakages….. I meant is more then that…., its more then the eye can meet…., you might not have digested what I wrote.
More over, our people are spoon fed from the time they realise why they were born in this beautiful country……they become non sensible.
Anyone out there realise ….., why we were born different…., its just the matter of color….., giving birth in the same hospital…, the same doctors in attendance, a few minutes difference…., but one comes with privilege…., while the other becomes second rated.
Food for Thought……, I hope so.
nxforget,……digest this and please reply.
Morning Dew / Kata Kini
Those are the example that I could use.
Now, let me put a word here. If you love so much to whack people with your intelligence, the day that you wish to happen to BN/UMNO will just never be in the horizon.
It’s the arrogance of BN/UMNO that turn the tide in the last GE. So, go ahead to whack people like pelangisenja to show that you’re the smartest and probably you are. Be like some of those in PAS that have the ability to pull the large crowd that “cheers” for talks but not votes in elections.
There’s no misery for people not participating in any blog discussion. Be on the sideline is just as good, perhaps humor to entertaint oneself.
The blog provide the chance or opportunity to increase participation for the common cause you are fighting but your arrogance may turn them away.
So, where do we go from here ?
nxforget,
I’m here on this forum only for that……, not out to butter one party or so…., it’s just that at times…., we are more incline to the opposition…, but believe me we are all above politics.
I had once told you ……, of your brilliant discourse…, keep it coming…., then we can change the course of peoples thingking.
……Kata Kini/ Morning Dew……, relax bro…., nxfoget, has alot to share with us in this forum. Morning.
Probably my earlier writings are cluttered and thank you for understanding it. Let’s view your pointers here:
i. Yes, it’s the elite UMNOPUTRA that got the best part, ordinary UMNOPUTRA got the crumb, the rest got what’s left.
ii. Agree
iii. Yes, it is BN. This is because of the poor policy and bad implementation. Many knew very well of this but continue to support by voting those BN representative into office. The worst part of it, the ones who were marginalized also supported them into office because of the little goodies and sweet talk.
Pointing fingers is sure an easy thing but lifting the butt to do the right thing is the hardest part. This is what we are seeing today except the few unsung heroes.
Development is good but not giving due consideration to the environment is bad. We easily distinguish people are being marginalized but did we consider enough of the ecosystems. This is what we are seeing. We have many housing and business center development but our water supply is degrading and wild animals that are fit lives in the cities.
There are enough law to arrest such a situation. But, the businessmen, the civil service, and our dearly elected BN are in cohorts to let these to happen.
This is why we are in need of change … specifically our representative. This is because there’s no provision in our constitution to change the businessmen or civil service. It’s only our elected representative can change the civil service and businessmen, be it the post or mindset.
iv. Agree to this point. Even, if there’s any attempt, it is just difficult as to at least the need of 2/3 support in parliament and accepted by by DYMM Yand DiPertuan Agung.
v. Agree and the list may expand.
vi. Thank you.
vii. The example I gave many not be good enough. The point I’m trying to forward is about accountability, that’s all. Otherwise, it’s just like ten blind men describing an elephant.
On the number of converts, it baffles me too. Our neighbor can quite easily get PR or citizenship and enjoy all the privileges but the 7th generations of non-bumiputra are kept aside. In cases hell broke loose with our neighbor, what’s in for all of us. A ready made infiltrators, scary isn’t it. If not, better be.
vii. On alibaba … the policy states equity participation. But, the greed among them all override the policy. Have you seen the equity given to those who wants to work other than the cronies or proxies, specifically UMNO. That’s why I’m against anyone pointing to a single race as many involved at all.
On the last two paragraphs, I have only this to say. You have 1 vote, I have 1 vote, together we make 2 votes. Let’s place our vote on the right horse or forever we’ll be bickering.
Hope I didn’t miss a or the point.
balasi,
Your stance and words are very encouraging, thank you.
Well to me what UMNO did in BP by election was a clear signal it’s business as usual. And now during their PAU, the same run of the mill feel good speeches, sajak, pantun and shouts of unity, equality and justice is flowing freely. After so many years, the condition of rakyat is still the same and the people who are now spewing anti corruption and equality speeches are the very same people who dabble in corruption and racism. SO I see no change what so ever will come AFTER PAU. After all UMNO and it’s leader are famous for ALL TALK AND NO ACTION! A malay proverb “Mendengar guruh di langit, air tempayan dibuang jangan” will be most appropriate for the rakyat to ponder!
hamba,
Sorry to barge in but I like your term PAU, perhaps PAU KAYA, anyone
I agree with you on “Mendengar guruh di langit, air tempayan dibuang jangan.” Let them seek changes if they want UMNO to survive but for those outside UMNO are seeking changes for a better Malaysia.
That’s why, as drraffick wrote in para 6, we need to expedite the formation of a 2 party system. Otherwise, we’ll “keluar mulut buaya masuk harimau”
Sorry, correction …
It should be “keluar mulut buaya masuk mulut harimau”
While many us are against or despised UMNO / BN, we can watch or ought to give the benefits of doubts for the changes they wish to seek and adopt.
Their leaders have made the pledge and delegates had unanimously supported the changes that include amendments to party constitutions.
Change has never been easy but it’s their survival that’s at stake. If they can’t do it, they surely going six feet deep and all I can say the UMNO grassroots are sure bunch of “tongong.”
Unfortunately, IMHO , the results of changes can only be seen in two terms or about six years to come. That’s the maximum window PR have to succeed if it wanted to move into Putrajaya.
Your point #4 is really off the mark. “It will eliminate election corruption.” Cynical as I am, “corruption will still there”. Maybe you may not understand politics well. With this new system, the game will just get bigger, meaning it will separate the men from the boys. Those who know this game will understand that it is getting onto a bigger baccarat table – minimum bet of 100,000$ instead of 25$. Those elites will continue to grow and grow with their big war chest.
This is the kind of game that REALLY separates the men from the boys.
Quote for the day: “Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone.”
Dear Malaysian Cynic
(1) You are right . It will separate the boys and the men. The men use to give money to 2500 people and now they have to give to 146000 people. Before the going rate may be 1000.
(2) It is not expected for the amount to go lower. There fore, someone may need to fork out 60%x146000xRM1500
Let see how many big boys will there be…
drrafick
The formula is the ‘pyramid system’. TDM is well-versed with it. I am sure some will know how it works.
I believed few has such funds in UMNO. Anwar is said to have few times more than this sum in his war chest!!. Otherwise, ‘crumbs’ from the ‘bridge over to our neighbouring country’ might solve this.
Dr. Rafick / Malaysian Cynic
It will just turn into a system….., where dynasty takes their respective turns. If you know what I mean.
Here, I may contradict my earlier comments.
But for argument sake, let’s just watch how’s they going to build their war chest. Up to date, it’s direct distribution when nearing party election.
In coming years, would it be:
1. Bigger and more direct negotiated mega projects.
2. Increases in the number of those classes of contractors.
3. Acquisition and merger and selling off profitable assets of GLC’s
4. Breaking down of GLC’s conglomerate into smaller entities.
5. Appointing trusted aide to board of directors of GLC’s
If these were to happen, then we know it’s all rhetoric.
Just a thought …
nxforget
Your assessment is not far from the truth. Know why those industry ‘experts’ are being shuffle around the GLCs? It is because they are willing to do the ‘dirty’ job of coming up with the ‘proposals’ (from these experts) and to cohort with those in power.
On a differnet note: Remember the High Speed Broadband Project (HSBB) project? Billions in $$$ and yet, we still experience poor connection and slow speed. Our connection speed is only a portion compare to our Singapore neighbour. Maybe our Minister can explain to us why we are still having a ‘dial-up’ broadband speed. It is an international joke; as being a pioneer of MSC (multimedia super corridor).
I could relate how bloggers felt when they cannot get connected.
Agree to your points. Just to add a few notes.
1. Just study the past and watch the comings. The directors of the GLC’s is just like the musical chair game. One dead, either in actual or literally, the music begins
2. Could not agree more than what you’ve said on the broadband. Let me share a story here about a multinational operating in this country. The KL team are bidding to outsource the data center to KL. Unfortunately, our “pulse of the nation” couldn’t accommodate their SLA. Actually, it’s not so much about the technicalities, it’s just the attitude “you come to us as we are the one who can provide those.” So, they have to go to our south neighbor. In term of the technicalities it’s just the same, but the kiasu attitude that won game. It’s in the same league as DHL, HSBC and Shell out-sourcing that you saw in Cyberjaya.
nxforget
Can’t agree with you more.
Do you realize how much we Malaysians had changed since our last ‘bull run’ in the 90s. It makes us so arrogant to the extent that we because obnoxious. Look at our lucky (19.2% who had made it) peers with their flashy cars. They come cutting in from nowhere and parked haphazardly anywhere they please. Worst, when they parked the same way during the Friday prayers. They do not even have the courtesy to park a little distance away and walk.
Malaysian business policies had made it so difficult for foreigners to invest here; with their Bumi equity and what not. This had certainly turned away many willing to invest here. Many (especially those from UMNO and BN) would argue that there were still many that had invested here. Yeah yeah… those nincompoops did not realize that Malaysia was VERY conducive (to invest) then. Today, China and Vietnam had managed to woo those foreign investors. Only now that they realized that it is important to make Malaysia a conducive environment to foreign investors. All our competitors have good infrastructure now compare to those days. Malaysia was conducive because we have good infra and our workers are educated.
There was a case where an Australian company intend to invest in Malaysia. After going through the formalities to have their business here, they only realized that our so-called MSC has not only slow broadband speed but also the connections were not stable either. Eventually, they relocated down south due to our ‘poor service’.
My take on the 19.2% achieved is that:
- The Government had spend Billions of $$$$ to help the Bumis. As a result, banks had went busted. More public monies were used to help those ‘smart borrowers’. What happened to the NPL during the 90s?
- After all the funds that being used to help the Bumis and after almost 30 years (since 1971), there MUST be a BIG FLAW if we only managed to achieve 19.2%. (even a doongu [maybe like pelangisenja] can also tell you this). Funny somehow those goons in UMNO STILL prescribe the same medicine despite it does not work (according to them).
Remember when ‘someone’ from an organization disputed the figure (achieved), he was quickly condemned and removed?
Kata Kini/ nxforget,,
Both of you are on track of the failures and their reasons. Read between the lines of Najibs words “the value lost on Bumi business proping was 52 billion. Now is worth 2 billion only. How the arrogant bumi companies amassed and messed the money up i your gussese as good as mine.
SSA ji, Dr. Amrit
As mentioned earlier, after almost 30 years and we only got 19.2%. This certainly brings BIG EMBARASSMENT to our nation.
Ironically and yet, they (UMNO) are telling the world they will continue to prescribe the same ‘medicine’. For argument sake, let’s assume it was ‘zero’ when NEP started in 1971. After 28 year, we only achieved 19.2%. This works out at 0.68% per year of improvement. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG HERE.
The message delivered (by UMNO) is that what you are seeing now with all the wealth around you and that of the big corporations in Malaysia, the Bumi shares are actually owned by the (very same) 19.2% Bumis; only a small group of Malays (or Bumiputra so to speak). After all these years, these so-called ‘assistances’ by the government has been ‘swallowed’ by these few that benefited from the system and yet we are all so gullible. BANKS WENT BUSTED, AND ONLY 19.2% HAD BENEFITED !!!
I do so agree with Dr Rafick to have his ‘banner’ in black; and for the rest of our life at the rate we are going.
One thing I can say is that many are not declaring thier assets; surprisingly Daim’s name did not appear in the Forbes Riches Malaysians. The person behind the Cahaya Mata is also not included.
Wonderful Malaysia we are leaving in.
Quote: “Those staying in glass house should not throw stones”.
So, those benefitted from the NEP should also keep quiet.
Your points noted. I have to admit that your points offer more view of things too.
Your para 1 … I recalled of being called a “dungu” or dump in late 90’s. I was working at PJ Section 13. On going for friday’s prayer at the round mosque of section 14, I used to park and pay at the parking complex that recently crumbled in section 14. I did that out of consideration to the traffic flow and easy exit upon completing the friday’s prayer. But, those who took the ride and passing bad remarks continue to take a ride with me though they have their own transport. I guess it’s in the mindset … “people are always at fault but with attitude of mind you own business of what I do”
Your para 2 … business equity, I don’t think it’s so much of the 30 % equity. It’s more of giving the 30 % equity for nothing. On top of that, they need to be given a top post with plumb perks so as to put the person away from the office. Have you seen any JV with locals technocrat who’ll work their butt to prosper. It’s always BN/UMNO politician’s and proxies that appear only during launching and press statement. For, the local business, they don’t have choice but the foreigner have choices to move somewhere else.
Your para 3 … Aussie company, yes, read of it in “The Star – Opinion” some time ago. Very poor reflection on our government.
Your para 4 … 19.2% achievement. I’ve commented somewhere here. But, wish to add few notes.
- I believe this money have been use to build war chest by the warlords for party and general / by-elections. So, those funds and holdings are not reported.
- It’s not those bumiputra businessmen that benefited but also the fund managers and executive that manage the NPL’s. Remember the case of Marina Yusof and the Marinara Tower along along TAR. I think the case is ongoing.
- I think they new of the flaw and they love it as it’s an easy way to retrieve funds from the government, ie tax payer money.
- Yes, I’ve browsed the publication. My only reservation on the publication is the inclusion of GLC’s asset. Other than that, I’m all for it.
- On another note, I’m curious as to why people like Daim and it’s proxies are not listed in the who’s who in the billionaire or millionaire list.
Malaysian Cynic,
Your points accepted except “So, those benefitted from the NEP should also keep quiet.”
Allow me to describe here that I am a direct beneficiary of NEP for education. It gave the opportunity to have a worldview and to see and practice things in proper perspective of civil liberties. Now, if I don’t have that opportunity, I’m pretty sure to be at the other end of the spectrum like some of my childhood friends. It’s either “ultra religious rights” or “ultra malay rights”.
As for using the NEP to rape the nation wealth, injustice to the citizens of the land, and hinder the progress of other races other than bumiputra, I’m with you all the way.
While I understand what you meant with such statement, I would greatly appreciate if you can be specific in making future statements.
No offense intended here.
nxforget
Firstly, no offense taken. Everyone is entitled to their opinion anyway.
Those benefitted should keep quite, otherwise they (or you) will be branded ungrateful. The problem is that you and I may also benefitted, but in a smaller way. Would like to hear those who had benefitted fully speak on this matter. Otherwise, move on and do whatever we can to arrest the abuse.
Maybe you can share your view on how we can we possibly do to recoup these losses.
On your point (4) we still do not know. In fact at the moment the various office bearers were also elected by the 145000 members by way of proxy. People at branch and divisional levels also paid good money to be elected and in turn sell their loyalty to the highest bidder. The amount of money used was enough to pay off enough of the 145,000 members. So what has changed ?
As they say the devil is in the details. The members voting in the election would also have to vote at the divisional or branch levels and the result sent to the headquarters. This again meant that people at the divisional levels or branch levels can also effect corruption.
We need more details before we can really conclude.
Morning Dew,
My two cents worth….., after a year….it will all be back at square one… ” Kita mudah Lupa “
Dear Dr,
In my opinion, it is the norm in politics (Malaysian Style?) esp.during the AGM, the leaders will talk and talk…to convince the followers.
…. you know – the feel good effects for all and sundry. The euphoria will die off and back to the old ways again.
Amendment to the party constitution ? …it’s just a procedural rules….for office bearers election purposes ( specific to UMNO internal matters).
Outside of the Assembly, will UMNO controlled media continue to spin rascist articles that caused racial disharmony, or tell half truth and half lies?
And will the UMNO politicians holding public office (Ministers,MBs,MPs,ADUNs) continue to engage in corrupt practices
(in various forms – monetary, mal-administration, mal-pratices, bribes, etc) ??
After all the hard work / fight to be elected, and ultimately appointed to high public offices …
Question is – will they, in all honesty, be there TO SERVE THE RAKYAT, or to help themselves to the cookies$$$ ( Directly or via cronies) ??
Anyone with a crystal ball ?
GhostBuster,
You lump it up so well……, that if you were to write a article it will become a ” THESIS “….., keep it coming.
GhostBuster,
No need for crystal ball predictions…., like you said…, NORM in Malaysian Politics.
