MCA: The final curtain

11/10/2009 by drrafick

MCA: The final curtain

1. The 101010 EGM that took place yesterday at Wisma MCA has produced a result which was not anticipated by many quarters. Many had predicted that the delegates would either choose between OTK or CSL and about a week ago, theories of hidden hand is at play to ensure a fresh group of people with lead the party.

2. Some even said that UMNO is the hand behind the hidden hand in MCA because they are fed up with MIC and MCA failure to deliver their part. They tried it with Samy Vellu but failed and with MCA as well. CSL is preferred choice compared to OTK because the latest revelation involving PKFZ that has embarrassed the government.

3. OTK is famous for his bluntness. CSL is famous for his sex scandal. Personality wise OTK appears to be no nonsense kind of person with clear principles. It appears that he only want to work with the people of his choice and not the choice of the MCA members. This led to maneuvers to remove CSL which eventually led to the event yesterday.

4. There are many ways to interpret the results of the EGM. Quite clearly the mainstream and internet media has interpret that that the delegates do not want both of them to remain in the party. If this is a simple game of football and the one with the greater votes (goal), then the outcome is clear. But this is politics and politics are a complicated game.

5. In analyzing the EGM results, we have to evaluate the outcome in total and not by the specific resolutions. The EGM showed that OTK has about half (49.7%) of the delegates support and 52.4% of the delegates wants CSL to be suspended as well 51.6% does not want him to be the Deputy president. This mean is that OTK still clearly has the support of the members despite the marginal loss compared CSL significant loss. Taken as a whole, OTK is still a winner despite the numbers says otherwise.

6. Both CSL and OTK are man of certain level of principles. CSL has demonstrated it when he handles his sex scandal by taking the bull by its horn. He admitted it was him. He resigned gracefully. He came back by winning despite his disgraceful act. This “China man” has shown that he accept his liability unlike many UMNO members who will contain the damage and continue living with a strong veil of denial.

7. It must be accepted that OTK is not the kind of character that mince his words. He is a firebrand politician who accept no nonsense but I think he went overboard when he defy the members wish that he should work with CSL. He always says what he feel should be said. In Pandan constituency, he earns the respect of many people from all walk of life and ethnic background.

8. If we study the way CSL wrote his views in accepting the decision of the delegates, it is quite clearly that CSL has nothing to lose when his supporters ask for the EGM. He was already beaten and ousted and the EGM has actually reinforced that he is not wanted. At the same time, he has got his revenge at OTK.

9. The next course of actions by the various parties is important. CSL is out. OTK is still the president but has the support of slightly half of the members (or delegates). In MCA, CSL has been contained. He is out of move. In chess, we call this check mate.

10. OTK may just get a reprieve from the presidential council and may be allowed to lead MCA but my own analysis of the man based on his character and principles, I feel he might just decline. I might be wrong but I believe OTK will place MCA above himself. MCA presidential council will ask him to stay but he will gracefully resign.

11. If he does not do it, I suspect half of MCA members will walk out with CSL or will not cooperate in MCA agenda. This would mean the premature demise of MCA. The next general election is in about 2-3 years and if they don’t do the right thing, BN will die naturally. Without a strong MCA and MIC, UMNO will lose all the constituency in major towns. PR will win and I truly believe that 1-Malaysia will emerged after that.

Ong’s leadership style reminds me of school prefect in Chinatowns. What he believes is he is hero and his battle is noble sacred and holy than thou. Never mind the horrid humiliation sufferred by CSL no room to stand by him against those gangland facebooks who will humiliate a leader who no want to join corruptions. Not that there is anything wrong with OTK’s style but if you are in Chinatown you must simply use some JKS tactics and GMD people. Instead he battles them with words words and more words and a theatre called PKFTZ. At the least get Chua to be strong ally and fight these powerful triad movements with knives which they will respect more.

NOT ALL MALAYSIAN EXPECTED BOTH LEADERS TO BE REJECTED.I PREFER OTK FOR HIS DARING TO REVEAL PKFZ.UNLIKE CSL OR ANY MEMBER IN MCA DO NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO ……WELL LET ME PUT IT TIS WAY.YOU CAN TELL WHETHER A LEADER CAN PEFORM HIS JOB BY NOT USING HIS MOUTH BLAR BLAR BLAR.

AT THIS GENERATION,WE WANT YOUNG N ENEGETIC LEADER TO LEAD THE PARTY.CSL IS TOO OLD .GIVE YOUNGER GENERATION A CHANCE TO BE ELECTED.CSL HAS BEEN TOO LONG THERE AT THE TOP.I AM SURE YOUNG ELITES ARE NOT GIVEN A CHANCE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO RUN THE CAMPAIGN.

There is no obvious potential successor to the MCA throne that the Malaysian Chinese can look up to. All of the slicks who coyly and indirectly suggest that they could be the next head honcho of MCA are so humdrum and disgusting, and not the ones that can inspire us. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

  6. on 12/10/2009 at 8:20 PM musangking

Yeah, but a lot of them will stay put trying to figure how to lay their dirty fingers on the RM 2 billion assets of MCA. If the rest resign, then whoever stay behind become defacto custodian of the assets!

  10. on 11/10/2009 at 6:26 PM Peter

Whether OTK is in or out, how can they cover up PKFZ? Why must the President of MCA be the one to bring this wrong doing up?

Isn’t this the crime of the century by the billions and should be handled by law enforcement officers or departments rather than head of a political party?

I am puzzled… why there are comments PKFZ will be covered up when the sum is just too big to do so?

    • on 11/10/2009 at 6:47 PM Kok

OTK is the only BN politician who shows any interest in uncovering the PKFZ mess. Perhaps he did not benefit from it since he was not in office when the scam was hatched.

      • on 11/10/2009 at 9:48 PM pelangisenja

        Kok,

cabinet acknowlegde there was a problem in the PKFZ fiasco and decided to carry out thorough investigation and make public it action.

it is a cabinet decision to act transparently and carry out the investigation and make it public, not by any single member.

don’t always see conspiracy at work then you might be start doubting why we exist, why we sleep, why we eat,why we mate and so on…..

      • on 12/10/2009 at 10:44 AM azhar

The entire Cabinet under Pak Lah has been implicated in the PKFZ scandal.

The issue has been kept under wraps since. This same cabinet claims to be clean & transparent? I think NOT!

  11. on 11/10/2009 at 4:54 PM sri hartamas

OTK should just resign and ride away into the background. he will join Tan koon Swan as another hainanese who lasted for a very short while as MCA president. His impending exit from MCA’s top post is his own doing. he failed to close ranks and ignore the wishes of CSL’s supporters who wanted CSL to be MCA’s deputy president. Together, they could have made MCA great again. But he chose to kill CSL’s politically. To that, he caused his own downfall. I shed no tears for his loss.

  12. on 11/10/2009 at 4:50 PM Khoo

OTK should stay on until PKFZ scandal is done with with all the corrupted guys involved are brought to public notice. MCA delegates and members must be mutured enough to accomodate OTK to stay on to get this job done. Otherwise, Malaysia will be a gone concern !!!

    • on 15/10/2009 at 7:25 AM tres

i agree, he shud stay until all pkfz crooks gone. if not, this issue will die off and amno as usual will wash their hands off from this issue. hopefully then, he would resign and join gerakan… hehe

  13. on 11/10/2009 at 4:17 PM James Kim

3rd party controlling the EGM is not UMNO. It is the Ong Dynasty (Ong Ka Ting/Ong Ka Chuan). The person who will benefit most from all these is Ong Ka Chuan. Word around Perak is Ong Ka Chuan will be the next President of MCA.
He will cover up PKFZ and business will resume as normal. Mark my words. You heard it from James Kim first…

    • on 11/10/2009 at 4:42 PM pelangisenja

PKFZ cannot be covered up anymore. it is like ozone hole.

      • on 12/10/2009 at 4:13 PM lvac

        Dear pelangisenja,
Have to disagreed with you, under 1Cover still able to cover whatever not disclose to public….whatever we know and read today might just a small piece of puzzle

    • on 11/10/2009 at 5:48 PM nxforget

Yes, they can’t cover the PKFZ. But, knowing their history, they know the means to stop further spreading the wild fire by first removing OTK.

      • on 11/10/2009 at 6:52 PM Dr. Amrit Sekhon

There are a bunch of sycophants, sitting in a room,, somehwere provided with high salaries, women, wine, luxury hotel living somewhere in Berjaya Resorts (I am promoting,,, okkk) and studying the documents in their possesion, on how to go about to spin the wheel anti-clockwise, to cover up PKFZ.
Only bloggers have read the facts, of the PKFZ Scandal but, has the public on the street and kampong, taken any interest.

The parties there are the AG, PKA Accountants, Kuala Dimension Accountants, MOF Accountants, Legal Reps of the Affected Parties, and they are churning, the ghee out of the milk.

Dream On,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OTK is gone.

  14. on 11/10/2009 at 3:50 PM Peter Sng

Just hope that OTK will still remain at the President to expose the PKFZ Scandal to the very end. Najib and those ex-MCA Presidents/VPs, warlords comprising the 3rd force want OTK out so that they will be safe.
Pray that the Central Committee will ask him to stay and he will AGREE to carry on.

  15. on 11/10/2009 at 3:47 PM sam

After this episod it has shown that OTK is a man of principle and to prove furthur he has to resign from MCA. If he doesn’t his words so far will be meaningless. The Port Klang scam will be quietly covererd up as too many top guys heads will roll.
To OTK resign gracefully, go on a long holiday and ponder your future. You are outspoken and a man of principle. This makes it all the more for you to join PKR and help to put this beloved country of ours on the straight road. I salute you and hope this will not be the end of your political life

    How did we get 101010? 10th October 2009 = 101009, bro!

It is 101010 because it is held at 10 am on 10 October.
It is the “triple 10″ that was reported by Party secretary general Datuk Wong Foon Meng. Read the news.

  17. on 11/10/2009 at 3:15 PM ak

The question is whether it is by design or coincidence that MC & MIC are now weak.

I think it is by design to leave a weak BN adrift in the sea.

A dangerous game to play because sooner or later UMNO grassroots will push the party leaders to not compromise towards the Chinese and Indians anymore and will leave them to fight against DAP & PKR for the non Malay seats.

  18. on 11/10/2009 at 2:31 PM Sam01

UMNO was all along the puppet master of MCA and MIC. These two pendatang parties must play ball with UMNO. They never cared about their communities, only UMNO’s interests.

In return the MCA/MIC leaders where allowed to ‘make their fortunes’.

Can you blame their communities from rejecting them?

This sums up the predicament the two parties are in today.

I am not a supporter of MCA and yet when I heard OTK was
out voted, I could feel a sense of sadness went through me.
He has paid his price and learned a dear lesson for defying delegates’ wish highhandedly.

When OTK and CSL were both elected into office in last election, I was puzzled with the delegates’ decision.? If they wanted OTK to be their president, they should vote for another person who could work with him to be his deputy. Not some one whom he can’t even see eye to eye.

MCA has just lost a president who is capable of bringing a new image to MCA and……….what is going to happen to PKFZ issue, is it going to be sidelined or gone together with OTK?

  20. on 11/10/2009 at 1:41 PM CSI

They cannot allow OTK to exposed all of PKFZ

    too many heads will roll
better one head then many many many HEADS !

    MCA – MANA CINA ADA?

    SEMUA DAH PUPUS….!

THEY WILL ALL BE JOINING PKR/DAP/PAS EVEN!

THIS IS A SLOW DEATH OF BN – ONE BY ONE
SLOWLY , SURELY AND ALREADY HAPPENING

AM NOT A CRYSTAL BALL GAZER BUT THE SCRIPT HAS BEEN WRITTEN!

DON’T ASK WHO WROTE THE SCRIPT…NOT THE TIME TO REVEAL AS YET STAY TUNED……….

  21. on 11/10/2009 at 12:38 PM Antares

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to support MCA or to wish it long life – except for the fact that MCA is very, very rich. I’ve been told they have at least RM4 billion hidden away in their vaults (although the treasurer has only admitted to RM2 billion, but that’s already plenty :-) Imagine, as president of MCA you would have access to a HUGE amount of capital – almost as good as being Robert Kuok or Vincent Tan!

    • on 11/10/2009 at 3:41 PM pelangisenja

      Antares,

it is hard earn money belongs tho the chinese community donated by their own people and business magnate.

they are good at mathematics (using sempoa not culculator) and has a sense of deep responsibility and accountability to their cause and community interest at heart. it is a fact that can’t be denied.

one good example is that no mca past or present claims their education fund bodies or tar college are a separate entity from mca.

    3. OTK is famous for his bluntness. CSL is famous for his sex scandal.

    ________________________________

And MCA is famous for its ‘In-fighting’.

Too busy fighting for power than to look into the welfare of the Chinese.

Don’t give two hoots if it bites the dust sooner than later.

    • on 11/10/2009 at 3:52 PM pelangisenja

      Markky,

they have excercise the peoples power not like the president power to stay for life.

the community are well nurtured as well matured in politics.

a lot to be learn from them.

  23. on 11/10/2009 at 11:53 AM Ken

Whether Ong resigns or not MCA is done for. If he stays, MCA is split. If he goes the next crop of leaders are greenhorns who cannot provide strong leadership to bring back Chinese support. MCA like MIC is hollowed out existing in external appearance only but support from the minority communities have deserted them.

I agree with dr. raffick on the implication for Umno. All the non-Malay majority seats and mixed seats will be at risk. Out of 165 parliament seats in the Peninsula, this leaves 70 Malay majority seats for Umno to battle with PAS. Umno’s power is at risk.

    • on 11/10/2009 at 3:58 PM pelangisenja

Religion and race are unifying force. The majority always win.

      *food for thought*

    • on 11/10/2009 at 10:14 PM pelangisenja

      Ken,

you share the same idea of uncle sammy in your first para ;like staying on and on until the second man is ready.

  24. on 11/10/2009 at 11:30 AM mangchik

As the saying ‘terlajak perahu can gostan, terlajak kata body hancus’ . I think OKT , being the macho gungho fellow that he is, should resign from MCA all together n join PR, y wait?. It’s the principle like he is expousing. But then again , most politicians r like lalang…
