Dear Tan Sri Muhyuddin
1. I refer to your many press statements defending the abolishment of PPSMI. Among others you said that it is what majority of the parents wanted. Your statement is rather misleading as I have never heard of any official studies being done among parents on what we, the parents want for our kids with regards to PPSMI.
2. If you are referring to one research paper done by a professor at UPSI, then I would say that you have made a decision based on a biased and skewed objective. The conclusion of the paper is so defective that the value of the research is nothing more than the price of toilet paper.
3. Tan Sri, I challenge you to prove that what you say is indeed a fact. I challenge you to instruct the Registrar of PIBG to instruct all PIBG to conduct and EGM ask the parents to decide either they want to retain PPSMI or otherwise. This is a fair thing to do.
4. In my last posting, I had openly states that I and my family will not vote BN because the Government failed to give the people the right to chose. I want to reaffirm my commitment to that stand because the government had made a popular political decision and not what is important for the nation.
5. Tan Sri, be fair and be a man. Give yourself the opportunity to hear the voice of the parents directly. I dare you. Thank you.
SPECIAL APPEAL
Dear readers
Tun Mahathir in his writing in his blog says that he will inform the government on the finding of his online poll in his blog with regards to PPSMI.
May I suggest that you go to his website, Che Det, and do the following:
(a) Cast your vote
(b) Place a comment in his blog by asking Tun M to pass a message to Najib whether you will still vote BN in the next GE in view of the government decision to abolish PPSMI.
We must appreciate that PPSMI died because of politics and it can only be revived in the same manner.
Dr Mohamed Rafick bin Abdul Rahman

u guys worry too much about the future of science and technology in Malaysia,if we could ever be advanced enough in these matters. To get there, all we need to do is to incite a nuclear war between the developed nations who possess nuclear arsenals. Those who don’t are usually allied to those who do. With a bit of luck, they’ll bomb each other back to the Stone Age and that will make Malaysia the most advanced nation by default.
heh heh:) i suspect the ” perjuangan ” is far more important than the bahasa itself to the pejuang bahasa. Just like the old hippies of the 60s and 70s who insist on boring anyone within earshot with old war stories about fighting the System. Except in our case, the angry young men of yesteryear have become the reactionary old farts of today.
Doc ,
English , science and math (S&M) are indeed important for us to become competitive.
But PPSMI – teaching of only S&M in English, will it help to improve kid’s English, S&M ?
What is the purpose of PPSMI?
to improve English using S&M as a medium !
OR
to enhance S&M using English as a medium !
So, competency in English is the crux of the matter. This is what Muhyudin Yassin has to do. TDM failed in is stupid attempt in PPSMI.LKY succeded in making English the medium of teaching.
Hi Dr Rafick,
I’ve read all the various posts which you have written on the PPSMI policy reversal (plus others of course)
I’d like to ask if you would like to share your views at a forum that we plan to hold on the topic next Thursday evening in Petaling Jaya?
You can reach me by my email: tonypua@yahoo.com.
Best regards,

Money talks. I guess everyone will learn BM if the Government implement fully business in BM. I am writing in English because business is conducted as such . I wait for the day when we go fully BM.
We talk of BM as our national language but fail to make it a mandatory in everyday official/business communication in Malaysia.
The polarity divide is worse after 50 years of independence and as can be noticed Chinese & Indians are not sending children to SK. We are living in a different community and yet call ourselve 1 Malaysia.
I just do not understand why Chinese & Indians cannot assimilate like in other countries where the langauges of that country are accepted by them.
Really Doctor there are apparently diverse views and expectations so debating seems like cross purposes.
Some people don’t expect to need to use science and technology in their future, say if they want to be religious scholars or news writers and the like.
Also because of their background in the villages they don’t usually access internet they are unaware and don’t miss all the informations town people have at their finger tips.
Besides they probably have been told about their negative influences and are happy if ignorant.
The so called nationalists in the mean time plays on their emotions and prejudices warning that their culture, their national pride will be eroded if malay is not “given prominence” and the politicians more concerned with their positions find it easier to go along!
In a recent RTM programme these people compare with the old days where people can pick up English and obtain qualifications later on if so needed!
But this is a different time, and method of studying and working is different. People access the latest info, the latest technology to be able to compete. If you don’t know and understand English in the relevant field you will be seriously handicapped!
If you love the Malay language teach it to the children, develop malay scholarships and literatures. Promote cultural activities and the Malay arts!
But treat the English language as a tool to free people from poverty and open their mind to new and wonderous things!
Ahchoo
Well said.
Sehingga lah saya belajar di luar negeri dlm kejuruteraan tiada pulak masalah nak catch-up, walaupun sekolah menengah & rendah belajar sains & math dlm BM.
Malah rakan saya mendapat tpt highest achievement dlm kejuruteraan di Universiti luar negeri, tiada plak masalah walau belajar dlm bhs Melayu.
Senior saya dapat biasiswa utk pHD dlm kejuruteraan, tiada plak masalah walau belajar dlm BM di peringkat rendah & menengah.
Baru-baru ni, top student di Imperial College, student Malaysia, tiada plak masalah walau belajar dlm bhs Melayu di peringkat menengah.
Tak lama sebelum tu, top student di Univ terkenal di Jepun, pun pelajar Malaysia. Takde masalah plak belajar sains & math dlm BM di peringkat menengah.
Jadi, apa masalah sebenarnya?
Saudara orang bangi
1. Apabila saya baca penulisan saudara, jelas sekali fikiran saudara tentang PPSMI ini kusut umpama benang bergumpal.
5. Saya kasihan anak anak saudara
Orang bangi
ambo ni orang kg. jabi, besut terengganu… rasonya deh cukup ulu kut
Why is the UPSI report biased?
BTW, online poll is blatantly unreliable. You should not give ANY weight on it.
Anybody can vote as many times as they want. People with dynamic IP address voting multiple times give the impression that many different people are voting when they are actually the same person (with an agenda).
Non Malaysians can vote. Spammers can vote. Spam bots can vote.
Dear Rocko
1. You need to see the full UPSI research to understand it. I have a copy of it . There is a gross error which include sampling error and the way the research was done it appears to be biased and intentionally done in a way to conclude that PPSMI is not acceptable.
2. I agree with you with your comments on online poll. I told PAGE the same thing. I am pushing for the voting to be done in schools, hence the letter to Muhyuddin.
Jangan kita jadi Pak Kaduk, menang sorak kampung tergadai.
Bibyaruna
UMNO accept a challenge? Aiyo! you have forgotten, UMNO pondanlah.
Dear Doc,
Muhyudin thinks that by abolishing English in Mathematics and Science, he can placate the Malays. He is totally wrong in this particular instant.
Tuan….
