Welcome back, Anwar.

26/08/2008 by drrafick

Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations! This would be my message to DSAI and his supporters. It appears that my analysis on the voter’s behaviour in PP was wrong. I was right on the score that all Indian and Chinese votes will go to Anwar but I was wrong big time on the percentage of Malay voters that would vote Anwar. It appears that more than 2/3rd of the Malay voters in PP have voted for Anwar. What does this mean?

Firstly, it appears that the rural and semi urban did not buy the idea that Anwar sodomised MSB. It means that the local Malay populace believes that it was something that UMNO cooked up. We are talking about rural and semi urban populace. What more the urban population? It appears the political tsunami that took place in March is far from over. I believe the appearance of the National Mosque Imam, Ramlang at the eve of election made a big impact to people.

I took the cab twice today and asked both the ethnic Chinese cab driver about Anwar. They believe that he can turn the fortune of the country. They do not care about his sexual conduct. To them, everyone has a hobby and Anwar is entitled to his. So what they say. To them, we must give him a chance.

Anwar and PKR were wrong about the impartiality of the EC. Their accusation that EC is biased has been proven wrong twice, first during the GE and now the PP by election. In my mind, it has been proven beyond doubt that the process of an election in this country is fair.

Can we extrapolate the development in PP to the rest of the country? In my assessment, the sentiment of the people in PP is shared by the rest of the country. People are fed up with the way BN is running the country. People are fed up with the various propaganda that is being spread by the government. They have lost faith in the government. If BN do not do the right things, chances are they will fall.

The next agenda for Anwar is to form the next federal government. Going by what he has been preaching, he has 20 days to do what he wants to do. It would be interesting to see what would develop. Personally, I welcome Anwar entry to Parliament. I see he would be a good opposition leader. He would provide the necessary experience for PR to create balance of power for the nation.

I look forward to the ideology and implementation of balance of power in the nation political arena. I want to see the country politics change towards non-racial and two party system. For UMNO and BN, please wake up and take stock on what has happen. Be prepared for the worst.

Lastly for Anwar and PKR, congratulations and welcome back to parliament. As I said it before , the by-election is not about Anwar and Arif Shah but it is between Anwar and BN. The message is clear, BN lost and Anwar won. BN must now take Anwar more seriously. Could this election be a signal for Pak Lah or Najib to make an early exit from politics?

    Dear Dr,

Nice blog. I like to read your neutral writings.

However, i do not agree with you regarding EC. It’s easy to see how biased EC towards the oppositions.

I was there during the results were out. When any opposition candidate has a chance of winning, EC will usually slow down the calculation process. During the last PRU you could see the results on PR states all came out very very late.

Permatang Pauh by-election process was finished at 5pm and EC only announce Anwar won the election at 10.30pm!

News from the ground told me that Anwar should won with 20k majority, suddenly at 9pm the numbers getting smaller to 17k and finally the official result is around 15k.

If Anwar early majority is 5k, i’m sure he would lost the by- election due to the invisible hands inside EC.

I also believe that if EC is totally independent during the last PRU, BN is shipwreck by now.

That’s all i can say. Just keep writing. TQ

please see this link –> http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/79292

No wonder Zulhasnan won in BN only seat in KL where in Setiawangsa postal votes consist of 26% from overall votes.

And Wee Choo Keong only won majority 200+ in Wangsa Maju and interesting to see that there was army Wardieburn camp in setapak.

    Dear Travolta

    I refer to below

In my mind, it has been proven beyond doubt that the process of an election in this country is fair.

    Docs,

I”m not agree with these statements as,

    1) no transparency on the postal votes
    2) Misused of mainstream media on campaign.

EC/BN misused did happened despite no prove.

I have been a postal voter before and agree with you if it was 12 years ago. During the last election the postal voter system has been documented and agreed by all political parties. I think the current system of postal voter is fair

On the misused of the mainstream media, I think we must appreciate that the EC has no controlled over them. Only the incumbent does. For this we cannot blame EC

If there is no prove then I take it as mere allegation. I am still waiting to see the prove on the involvement of Rosmah/Najib on the Althantuya murder as well as on MSB accusation on the sodomy issue. To me this are all allegations. There is no evidence as yet

“a strong PR opposition to check and balance the BN government”

    I am puzzled by this.

After the March general election, the opposition is already strong. Ideal for check and balance. Unfortunately, they became preoccupied with gaining power – by subverting the ballot box through frogging of all things.

They don’t need Anwar to nurture a 2 party system. In many ways, it was Anwar who was eager to be PM that threw PR off its goal (one that he initially help shape). Now that Anwar is in parliament, will they go back to their intended track? Or are we seeing further destabilization and promise of subverting the ballot box.

    I hope for the former.

“I hope PR will take the approach of amnesty of past misdeeds for ALL so that the country can move forward.”

I agree. Even though it may be used to also protect people who were/are involved in corruption, a witch hunt has been proved to be damaging (look at Indonesia) and ultimately ineffective.

Clean slate, move forward, strict enforcement from then on – BN should have done this after 2004 general election.

My prediction was correct. DSAI is such an astute politician. The good outcome , I hope , is there will now be a strong PR opposition to check and balance the BN government.

Umno must take heed of the peoples’ choice and change ; change in the entire leadership and change the way you govern if BN is to stay relevant.

Otherwise , 16 Sept as DSAI as alluded will come true!

DSAI is a charmeleon , he can be ruthless and kind at the same time. I hope PR will take the approach of amnesty of past misdeeds for ALL so that the country can move forward. There is no need to go witch hunting as every 1 step forward will be hindered by 2 steps backward. Enough is enough , learn our lesson from past mistakes and move forward.

just like Mr Rocker,i too dont believe in Anwar.

his personality when he was on and off the govt were different.when he was in the govt during Dr.M heyday,he was rather quite.then after he got sacked,he’s more to what he’s now – outspoken.

the thing is,does one have to be the prime minister to help to bring back stability in this country?.wait a minute….are we really not stabile in this country?do you see any suicide bombers around?do you see people fighting over for food and shelter?.Malaysia isnt that gross.we still can live in peace and harmony.

but still i have to admit there’s nothing wrong for one to pursue his/her dream.for Anwar, his dream is to be the next PM then go on pursue it.

all we have to bear in mind is we’re not necessarily be on top of the world forever.

    I don’t believe in Anwar.

His past track record when in power don’t give credibility to his proposed ‘new dawn’. He was a minister for decades and he didn’t do anything. In fact, he was a party to the corruption and abuse that he now condemn.

Anwar reasoned that he was powerless because he wasn’t top dog, but why didn’t he resign if he doesn’t agree with BN policy?

Why only when he was sacked from power then suddenly ‘reformasi’?

I am puzzled at the idea that Malaysia can’t change for the better and nurture a 2 party system without Anwar. There are capable leaders within PR with ample experience and better track-record than Anwar.

There are people in both BN and PR who are capable leaders but we must allow them to lead.

So lets drop sentiment and personality cults. Lets start searching for a truly deserving leader.

There is nothing called BN, we have an abusive, polygamous husband called UMNO married to many humiliated wives called BN component parties. I think you need to address UMNO since there is nothing called BN. But let me make it clear: UMNO will never learn and will never reform because the people who make it (leaders in particular) are beyond salvation point. I can swear (UMNO style of course-not Islam’s way) that UMNO is beyond salvation point.

“BN must now take Anwar more seriously.”

I agree with you but I also hope Anwar will not place personal agenda as his top priority. Fulfilling the promises and delivering results for Malaysian who voted for PR should be his main agenda.

    Salam Doc,

It is good to note that you have graciously conceded that your analysis of the Malay voters in PP was wrong. But I appreciate what you have written because it gives an alternative view of events.

Congratulations to Anwar on his return. Let’s pray that he does not let the people’s hopes go down.

    Dr,

With Anwar’s win, the people of Malaysia now have a chance of seeking a better future iso of being !@#$ by the BN politicians !

    Hooray to Anwar’s win !!

Absolute power corrupts absolutely – the PR is in a position to dilute the power a little bit to balance the scale of liberty & justice !!

We are looking into a new chapter of a new Malaysia for the greater good of our children and our children’s children.

    God bless ….
