1. During the current political scenario, the weekend was never a dull one. It provides cheap thrill and excitement in the current inflationary environment. The Pakatan Rakyat program at Kelana Jaya was reported to have been attended by about 30000 people (RTM says 10,000) and I am glad, the police had acted wisely. From what we can see, the people in this country can do peaceful demonstrations. Except for the minor complains from surrounding residents (who are probably BN people); the event was reported went well.
2. In the last few days, the Perlis Mufti and Nik Aziz have called that Anwar and MSB swears upon the Quran of their innocence. In Islam, the Quran is a highly respected. No man is about to make a folly of the Quran. No one is prepared to face the continuous wrath of Allah (GOD) for lying and swearing with the Quran. It creates fears that go right down to the bone.
3. From what was reported in the Media, Anwar during his speech is now fighting back and saying that the Ulama is against the use of Quran in swearing for the truth. I do not know which Ulama that he was referring. Anwar claims that he is prepared to be charged in Syariah Court despite knowing well that the Syariah Court has no provision for such crimes.
4. What is Anwar trying to do? I think he is trying to evade the issue. The proposal put forward by the Perlis Mufti (whom I have high regards among the many mufti in Malaysia) is simple and very much applicable. It will resolve the issues once and for all. With one line of swearing, Anwar would be able to clear his name. I think the public will accept his swearing using the Quran as a sign of innocence. Here, at one go, he would put the matter to rest and will prove the BN conspiracy theory (if there is such a conspiracy). Why does he not want to do it? I think in the interest of Muslim, the people of Malaysia and the Country, the swearing with the Quran will be the easy way out for everyone.
5. Anwar and RPK insinuation on the presence of evidence linking Najib to the murder must be reported to the police officially. Both of them must give forward evidence and witnesses. The lives of 3 men lies in balance and here Anwar and RPK is playing with the police. This is wrong
6. With Anwar evading the subject and giving slanting excuses, his credibility is now being questioned. In reality, everyone wants a closure of this episode and it should have been accepted. Of course MSB must also be present and also swear with the Quran. Since this process is an important agenda, we can have it telecast live or TV and web cast over the internet. Rosmah and Najib must also take this opportunity to swear with the Quran so that their involvement with Althantuya murder can be rule out once and for all.

But, my 2 cents is somehow Anwar’ statement makes sense- why are we using this swearing upon Quran to prove you are innocents?
Not to question my faith towards Allah’s words but I am trying to be more practical and get a rational perspective as we live TOGETHER in a multi racial and multi religions state.
The contents of Quran it self has taught us how do we deal with criminal or adultery acts thru judiciary method, isn’t it?
We live in a so called Hi-tech era with the recent science and tech development – where one party can prove that another one is guilty thru facts, experiments and not thru empty words.

I’m not sure if we are applying double standards to Najib, Rosmah, RPK and DSAI.
E.g. if Najib and Rosmah swears with the Quran as you suggested, then, should RPK and DSAI do the same?
And since RPK has written an SD, shouldn’t Najib, Rosmah and DSAI do the same thing, i.e. also sign an SD?
Then, it’s equal, and all 4 will have not only bear the consequences in the after-life, but also in this life.
To me, if all 4 does this, then, the public perception issue is addressed.
But I’m afraid it still leave Altantuya’s murder case, as well as the submarine commission allegations left unsolved, if investigation results are not made transparent to the public.
E.g. Why was the original prosecution team suddenly changed last minute. Where was Rosmah on the day that Altantuya was murdered? Etc. Etc. Etc. A million questions that most Malaysians are asking at coffee shops, offices, etc.
This is a tough one to resolve completely, as the situation has turned ugly. The public perception issues should have been addressed 2 years ago …

I m no supporter of Anwar nor MSB, neither m i a supporter of anyone who may or may not have committed any sinful crime of this nature..sodomy..adultery, illicit sex etc etc . What I m imploring (this probably being due to my shallowness and certainly ignorance of the tenets of this religion Islam that I have professed) is that that by using Mubahalah (the swear – in using the Quran as the instrument to verify/compliment/bonus) to influence perception for political gain is a pathethic and disgustful act.
Kush, I m very sure u n mayb others who may also be reading or following this thread will probably be wondering and asking…what’s going to be the OUTCOME of ALL this…with or without the Mubahalah ? Your guess is as good as mine ..there r no clear winners..we will all loosers in the end. Perception towards Islam by others…( non muslims) phewww i dread to fathom what they might be thinking..

There is nothing wrong in putting it back to the almighty when we all have many perceptions. It does not cost much anyway as compare to Royal commission which Anwar always asking for.
It puzzled me why so many fuss on such a simple issues ? put it to rest once and for all, then let the law take its course. NEVER we ask that investigation should stop after swearing, it’s just a compliment or a bonus.
It seems Anwar trusted the judicial and police more than the almighty in this case, what an irony isn’t it.
As we finished the mubahalah between Anwar Vs MSB, then some of us want Najib & Rosmah to do the same, who are they against with in this Murbahalah? Bala? Americk Sidhu?

whosoever I repeat..WHOSOEVER is religionizing politics or politicisizing religion (whichever way u look at it) for their own ends re this issue SUMPAH JUNJUNG QURAN to confuse the already confused layman (me inclusive) as to the state of affairs in the country…i can strongly vouch..they r doing it well..too bloody well n this to me is just simply pathethic…a dire mockery
If this goes thru, (the holy book swear-in) it will undoubtedly seem that after this DSAi -MSM episode or for that matter…Najib Rosmah etc etc etc , anyone or everyone can go for this option as the easiest way out of any perception/misperception problems…

To me , it was a great mistake that the Military Intelligence Chief had to appear in the media/press. By denying , in the court of public opinion you are already guilty by association. Why stoop that low , I wonder !

what n where public opinion now stands at this stage of the game. From my own perspective as a member of the public…I must admit I m getting an overload of information / misinformation n whoever has done it..did well

I believe what Doc try to put forward was spot on, its all about courts of public opinion. Why does Anwar try to evade the swearing? what are he afraid of?bear in mind that MSB does not put any condition at all?Why SO scared and SO many bla…bla to do a simple thing like this? Just go and do this simplest thing without further bla..bla..bla, its only 30 minutes!
After the swearing, we as muslims will put if to rest in our perception and will not talking about it further, its in GOD hand. The investigation however must go on, to find any evidence and resolve it according to the civil law, or court law we never say it shall stop after the swearing.The swearing is just an effective compliments for both Anwar and MSB.

The whole episodes have been politicised to the core . The more you are fed with information by both sides of the divide the more confusing and far from the truth it becomes. Easily, doubts have been created and I for one will never dare to accept the evidence as I have not seen it with my own eyes.
I remember what my late father-in-law always told me. “Hati mesti sentiasa bersih , lurus dan jangan beranggapan buruk ke atas orang lain.”
The fact remains that both cases are under the jurisdiction of the civil courts and not the syariah courts. Even the Muftis are divided on the necessity to “angkat sumpah”. BTW there is no such practice of swearing holding the Quran.
That the Althantuya murder was committed is without a doubt. Who did it has not been proven and under whose instruction is a mystery.
The police is still investigating on the sodomy claimed by MSB.DSAI has not been charged of the sexual offence and already we see many clever persons making all kinds of comments.
The less talks and writings on the subjects the better for everyone. Otherwise , we are playing to the gallery/circus of the politicians , media & press.

I don’t prefer the swearing on the Koran. If both DSAI and Saiful swears by it, how do we resolve?
Similarly for RPK, Najib and Roastmah. If all of them swears, will there be an outcome? I don’t think so.
I prefer all of them taking a lie detector test conducted by a known and impartial doctor/operator.
Once my uncle swears using a white crokerel and nothing happens to him even it was later found with evidence that he was a thief!

3. My writing above is done with double meaning. Maybe I need to refine it further. There are 2 aspects that need to be manage . The first is public perception and the second is the truth. In politics somehow and sadly public perception is far more important than the truth. My swearing with the Quran, public perception can be tuned properly and at the same time for a GOD fearing man, the truth will also comes out. That is why I think the 4 characters do not have what it takes to swear with the Quran
5. Sometimes, the most difficult problem can be achieved by looking at the simple and non complicated solution
